BCI Mandal Public Library, Norway
The cultural centre in the picturesque town of Mandal is called The Arch (Buen). We were consulted at an early stage of the project to share our expertise in library planning. One of the key requests was that we maintain a dialogue with the architects at 3XN throughout the process, which we did.
The light and airy library extends over three floors. A specially designed ceiling-to-floor green wall that contrasts brilliantly with the white shelving characterizes the interior. The panorama windows give a spectacular view over the river. Nature and tradition meet development and innovation.
Besides the library, Buen also houses a cinema, an art gallery, a stage, a cultural school and a café.

Sammen med Lindesnes bibliotek har vi laget en video for å vise hvordan vi tenker bibliotekene kan bruke utvidet virkelighet for å gi bedre bibliotektjenester i fremtiden.

Hva betyr tillit for et samfunns måte å fungere på? Tillit har i seinere tid vært et sentralt begrep innen statsvitenskap og politisk filosofi når man har diskutert hva det er som får et samfunn til å fungere. Noen mener at tillit borgerne imellom og borgernes tillit til politiske institusjoner er en forutsetning for et velfungerende samfunn.
I internasjonale målinger kommer Norge ut som et samfunn hvor det er høy tillitt. Er det noen sammenheng mellom graden av tillit og den norske modellen?

Foredrag ved Kenneth Bringsdal
Bringsdal snakker om verdien av å ta vare på og benytte seg av de lokale naturområdene.
Det er et faktum at Mandal by vokser, og med god planlegging er det ingenting i veien for at byen kan utvides på en måte som samspiller med naturen. Bringsdal mener dagens utbyggere dessverre er mer fokusert på profitt enn bærekraft, og vil forklare noen av konsekvensene dette kan få.
Ytringsfrihet og religionskritikk
Bør det finnes en grense for kritikk av religion? Er ytringsfriheten absolutt? Publisering av Muhammedkarikaturer og attentater mot tegnere og journalister har gjort disse spørsmålene ubehagelig aktuelle og påtrengende. Ytringsfrihet er en sentral forutsetning for et demokratisk styresett. Trosfrihet og toleranse er også sentrale demokratiske verdier.
Filosof Stein Rafoss vil innlede og så vil prost i Mandal, Per Ragnar Haraldstad og Abdifatah Mohammad Hirsi (Nestleder i Alrahma Islamic Center Kristiansand) ha innlegg på 5 minutter hver. Disse vil også være i et panel for å delta i samtalen med publikum etterpå.

Hjoerring Public Library - Denmark
This has been described as Denmark's most exciting library. Rooms and departments are linked by a red thread - sometimes functional, sometimes a virtual artery - winding its way high and low through the building, spreading oxygen and energy. The new 5,000 square metre central library in Hjoerring forms parts of the Metropol shopping centre. The intention of visual artists Bosch & Fjord was to make this the pivotal point of the town. The whole idea of the library is to encourage playfullness and surprice.
Lammhults Library Design with more than 60 years of experience in this field has been deeply engaged in the innovative solutions for this project.

Hjørring Library is one of Denmark's newest examples of a exciting and creative library. The whole idea of the library is to encourage playfulness and surprise.
An inspired red vein leads the visitor through the entire library as a structural element of the decor at times or otherwise in the form of a shelf, display surface or even a seat.

Hjørring Bibliotek er ét af Danmarks nyeste bud på et spændende og kreativt bibliotek. Hele konceptet bag biblioteket er at opfordre til leg og overraskelse.
Bibliotekets omdrejningspunkt er et rødt bånd, som snor og bugter sig gennem biblioteket.

Hjørring Bibliotek är ett av de nyaste i Danmarks långa rad av spännande och kreativa bibliotek. Hela idén bakom biblioteket är att uppmuntra till lek och överraskningar.

A fantastic building that fits into the city's post-war architecture
The library is built as airy as possible - and the furniture is specifically chosen to fit into this light and airy environment. An important factor is that the same furniture is found in many variations: In the children's zone the shelving systems have a size that suits children, and in the adult zone you will find the same furniture – but adapted to adults. This applies to the whole of the library.
