MANE KATZ MUSEUM HAIFA ISRAEL
Unique interview with one of the greatest artists of the School of Paris - Mane-Katz
Mané-Katz was an important member of the School of Paris (Ecolé de Paris) - a group of young artists, many of them Jews, who arrived in Paris from Eastern and Central Europe at the beginning of the 20th century.
The Mané-Katz Museum, located in Haifa, Israel, on Panorama Road overlooking the magnificent view across Haifa Bay, was opened in 1977 in the home of the artist, where he lived and created during the last years of his life.
Works by Mané-Katz are to be found in the world's finest museums, including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Paris, the Metropolitan in New York, the Stedelijk in Amsterdam, Jerusalem's Israel Museum, and the Tel-Aviv Museum of Art. The Mané-Katz Museum Collection is the largest and most important in the world.
The future exhibition at the Mané-Katz Museum is planned for 1 October 2011. Jewish Religious and Ceremonial Items from the Haifa Museums Collection will include items from Mané-Katz's own collection, which brought him renown not just as an artist but also as a collector.

MANE`-KATZ Masterpiece.
MANE`-KATZ Masterpiece.
How did this Ukrainian masterpiece, happen to escape the clutches of important serious art collectors in Europe?
Simply put - It was through the late General Moshe Dayan and Mrs Yurika Mann the artist and protégé` of Mane`-Katz, that this maximal and historical painting ended up at the Pretoria Art Museum, in South Africa. It belonged to her and was placed in storage for 20 years -together with and among 85 other artworks and sculptures by Mane`-Katz the ‘Quirky’ and artistic genius.
It was through General Dayan who persuaded a very reluctant and sensitive Yurika (Erica) Mann, to accompany him to officially attend the wedding of war veterans, the groom was in a wheelchair and the bride, were both amputees, the wedding was attended by 300 Israeli war veterans and for Yurika Mann it was a very traumatic experience and saddened at the sight and plight of so many badly injured Israeli soldiers, that she was unable to sleep that night.
Astonishing facts have been extensively researched and now finally revealed after a mammoth 12 years and 6 months period. This often soul destroying mission, by a patient and highly tenacious Nicholas Geddes from Johannesburg South Africa, has met with enormous success.
After searching archives, physically in several cities and online and sheer detective work, he has revealed and finally found, several important ‘living’ persons linked to this masterpiece – for that it is! To view the artwork (Ref., Google Images Mane`-Katz paintings Nicholas Geddes).
He has uncovered very many interesting and historically important facts behind the research for authenticity of this artwork. – An amazing provenance like no other has manifested itself and proves, even beyond the Laws of Probability, that this art work “IS” the maximal masterpiece of Mane`-Katz and epitomizes the rare ‘Plastique’ genre and ‘Quirky’ sense of humour of the artistic genius.
Documents, editorials and photographs scrupulously gathered over these 12 years (And 6 months) and prove that Geddes the 73 year old, Retired Fine art researcher was ‘absolutely correct’ in his appraisal and that his in-depth study of all the relevant facts, points to the artists ‘Finest’ artwork.
It was especially chosen by a unique and highly celebrated team of a combination of 5 Tertiary & Academically qualified Art experts, from the Fund raising collection of Israeli artworks, in the office of the highly respected Director Dr. Albert Werth M.A. of the Pretoria Art Museum.
The person Mr Harry Cohen the Financial Director of the huge P.G. Glass industries was briefed by the chairman Dr, Morrie Lubner, to source an artwork of substance, for the retirement presentation gift to Mayor Max Neppe, on his retirement.
Mr Ginger Cohen visited Mr Rheinhold Cassirer at his art gallery and consultancy in Rosebank Johannesburg and told him of the search for an artwork befitting the stature and prestige of a beloved exemplary Mayor of Johannesburg, who was also a city councilor for 11 years.
Mr. Rheinhold Cassirer, who previously headed up Sotheby’s in South Africa, was the highly respected world authority on European, modern and Impressionism art - and the works of Mane`-Katz was his specialty and was briefed by Mr. Harry Cohen to find a suitable gift. He was also his lifelong friend as was Mr. Cecil Skotnes, then an art student at WITS in 1951 who befriended Mane`-Katz. (Ref. Mrs Rheinhold Cassirer (Nadine Gordimer), is widow and Nobel Laureate in Literature. Mr. Cassirer who personally knew Mrs Yurika Mann, who was also an art agent for Mane Katz long before Cassirer, was invited by her to attend the Israeli Art Exhibition, at the Pretoria Art Museum. It was from this art collection, brought to South Africa by Mrs Mann in September 1976, that Mr. Cassirer carefully scrutinized and chose this painting of ‘Many Cats” (9 in total) - in consultation with Dr. Albert Werth the Director, his wife Muriel, his highly qualified deputy Mrs Katinka Kempff, and of course Mrs Yurika Mann who brought the exhibition to South Africa.
