Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Temple, Mangalagiri, Vijayawada
Vijayawada is a famous tourist destination in Andhra Pradesh known for its temples, caves, forts and parks. Situated around 12 km from Vijayawada is the famous town of Mangalagiri widely visited by tourists thronging the city of Vijayawada. Mangalagiri means ‘Auspicious Hill’ and is known as one of the eight Mahakshethrams (sacred places) in India where Lord Vishnu manifested himself. Mangalagiri hill is in the shape of an elephant and according to the legends there is a story behind it. Hrasva Srungi, the son of King Pariyatra visited the place of Mangalagiri and took the shape of an elephant at the request of the Gods to become the abode of Lord Vishnu, locally known as Panakala Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy.
Mangalagiri is a famous pilgrim center known for its three temples of Narasimha Swamy - Panakala Narasimha Swamy on the hill, Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy at the foot of the hill and Gandala Narasimha Swamy on the top of the hill. The Panakala Narasimha Swamy temple does not have a statue of the God but a mouth covered by metal face of the God. Here jaggery water is offered to the Lord by the devotees visiting the temple. At the foot of the hill, there is a temple dedicated to Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy. The main deity in this temple is believed to be installed by Yudhisthira, the eldest of the Pandavas. This temple has one of the highest gopurams in the entire South India constructed by Raja Vasireddy Venkatadri Naidu. On the top of the hill is the Gandalayam where there is no deity of the God. Here devotees light a lamp with Ghee and believe that they will get rid of their miseries.
A place of great religious importance, Mangalagiri is one of the top attractions of Vijayawada. The three legendary temples and the lush green surroundings attract visitors to this auspicious place in huge numbers. Ksheera vruksham is another major attraction on the Mangalagiri hill visited particularly by women. Thousands of women visit this tree throughout the year and pray for begetting children. Mangalagiri is known not only for its temples and natural beauty but also for handloom dress materials produced here. Mangalagiri cotton is quite famous in Andhra Pradesh. A place of legendary temples, handloom materials and beautiful surroundings, Mangalagiri is definitely one of the must visit tourist destinations in Vijayawada.

ACA International Cricket Stadium (or Andhra Cricket Association International Cricket Stadium) is a cricket stadium under construction in the town of Mangalagiri.
It is situated in Guntur district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, nearly 15 mi (24 km) from Guntur and 10 mi (16 km) from Vijayawada.[1] Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy laid the foundation, with construction company IVRCL Limited winning the rights for the project, worth ₹51.04 crore (US$7.1 million).
It is owned by Andhra Cricket Association.and spread over an area of 24 acres (9.7 ha) with a seating capacity of 40,000.
VVS Laxman, the former Indian batsman hasinaugurated the Central Zone Academy of Andhra Cricket Association in June 2013.
The stadium will include a club house and an indoor cricket academy. The Board of Control for Cricket in India made Andhra Cricket Association as the headquarters of Indian women's cricket team. (Source-Wikipedia)

Panakala Narasimha Swamy - God Who Drinks Panakam
It is said that here, god is self-existent. In the temple, there will be no statue of the god, but there is only mouth, widely opened to 15 cms. The mouth is covered by metal face of the god. The temple will be opened till afternoon only, with the belief that devatas will perform pujas in the night. The God takes jaggery water as offering by a conch. The Jaggery water is actually poured into the mouth of the Lord, a gargling sound is clearly audible as if the Lord is actually drinking it and the sound becomes shriller and shriller as and when the Lord is drinking. The sound will come to a stop after sometime and the balance of the jaggery water is thrown out. This phenomenon happens not once in a day but is a recurring feature during the course of the day as and when devotees offer panakam (jaggery water). It will be interesting to note that even a single ant is not traceable near the Lord nor around the temple in spite of the offering of so much jaggery water. As the offering of the panakam to the Lord is peculiar, the Lord here is called panakala Narasimhaswamy. There is a legend about the offering of the panakam (jaggery water) to the Lord. It is said that the hill was once a volcano. Sugar or jaggery water, it is said, neutralizes sulphur compounds found in a volcano and prevents a volcanic eruption.
Behind the temple there is the temple of Sri Lakshmi, to the west of which there is a natural cave. It is believed that it will lead to Undavalli caves on the banks of the Krishna river and the sages used to go to take bath in Krishna River. Now, the cave is very dark and the way could not be seen. We can reach the temple through steps-way on foot and also by road-way. The steps to the temple were constructed by Sri Channapragada Balarama Dasu in 1890. In 2004, ghat road had been constructed through which the pilgrims can reach the temple easily.
