ZANZIBAR ISLAND - MCHEKENI CORAL CAVES - TANZANIA DAR ES SALAAM TRAVEL VLOG
ZANZIBAR ISLAND TRAVEL VLOG - MCHEKENI CORAL CAVES TANZANIA DAR ES SLAAM :
You won’t find these caves listed on trip advisor or any major travel website, it’s a local attraction. We visited the caves with a local guide. He navigated us through them by flashlight and recanted tales of villagers hiding in them during WWII from the Germans. They were very neat, but you can’t be freaked out by bats as many flew around with the sudden light on them.

After slavery was abolished slave traders hid their illegal slaves deep in this cave. I can't imagine being stuck in this cold, damp environment for months on end. Thank goodness civilization has progressed.

[ Joy in Zanzibar ] Swimming in Kuza Cave, Zanzibar
I didn’t plan to do many activities this time in Zanzibar. I know there are so many things to do here, for example: dolphin watching, snorkeling, sailing, fishing, etc. I only stay for a short time so just to chill on the beach bars drinking juice and cocktails with a view of the sea most of the time.
I didn’t know about Kuza Cave until I met a Getman couple who told me the cave is close by and you can swim there. It is really close, just 1 km away from where I’m staying, so I thought why not!
Where the cave is is also a culture center, where they teach drumming and dancing if travellers are interested. I didn’t have much to do, so after swimming for an hour or two, I stayed there for the live music and dance show and also for the dinner.
It was fun, well, maybe not as fun as if you visit the village and tribe and to see the dances in their real life, instead of in a culture center, but not too bad.
They currently raised the entrance fee from 10000 (~ 4 euro) to 20000 shillings, the cave was really blue and beautiful, you can snorkeling to see how the shape of stones underneath the water, there’s a diving route too.
Dinner wasn’t bad either, although for 20,000 shillings you can get something even better stuff in Jambiani village.
They offer lodges too, not so expensive ones, around 20$ per night, in general the culture center seems OK, not too bad.
That was my experience, you can check out my vlog and figure out if you want to go when you come to Zanzibar.

Christ Church (Former Slave Market), Zanzibar, Tanzania
The Christ Church stands on the grounds of a former slave market - the biggest on Zanzibar. Located in the centre of the old town, this historical Anglican church plays an important part of Zanzibar's slave trade history. Visitors may view the former slave chambers, where slaves were kept in overcrowded conditions, with limited fresh air and food. There is also a famous monument dedicated to the slaves on the church grounds.
