ఎలావెళ్ళాలి ?
బీహార్ రాష్ట్రం లో ఉన్న గయకు విజయవాడ-వరంగల్-నాగపూర్- ఇటార్సీ- అలహాబాద్ మీదుగా గయకు వెళ్ళవచ్చు. బీహార్ రాజధాని పాట్నాకు సుమారు 100 కి.మీటర్ల దూరంలో గయ ఉంది మాంగల్య గౌరి – గయ ఫల్గు నదీతీరంలో కోలాహలమనే పర్వతం మీద గయిడనే రాక్షసుడు ఘోర తపస్సు చేస్తూ ఉండేవాడు. ఇంద్రుడు గయుడి తపస్సుకు భయపడి బ్రహ్మను శరణు వేడుతారు. బ్రహ్మ గయుడికి వరాలిచ్చే శక్తి తనకు లేదన్నాడు.
ఇంద్రుడు శివుడి దగ్గరకు వెళ్ళగా శివుడు కూడా అదే మాటంటాడు. ఆ తరువాత విష్ణువు దగ్గరకు వెళ్ళగా విష్ణువు గయాసురుడి దగ్గరకు వెళ్ళి శంఘంతో గయాసురుణ్ని తాకుతాడు.
గయాసురుడు తపస్సు నుంచి మేల్కొని విష్ణువుకి సాష్టాంగ ప్రమాణం చేస్తాడు. విష్ణువు గయాసురుణ్ణి వరం కోరుకోమనగా గయాసురుడు తనకే కోరికలు లేవన్నాడు. కాదు కోరుకావాల్సిందే నని విష్ణువు చెప్పగా అలా అయితే నన్ను తాకిన ప్రతి జీవి, చూసిన ప్రతి జీవి మోక్షాన్ని పొందేలాగా కోరుకుంటాడు. విష్ణువు తధాస్తు అంటాడు..
ఈ గయాసురుడు తన శరీరాన్ని కొన్ని వందల మైళ్ళ పర్యంతం పెంచుతాడు. దాంతో ఎక్కడెక్కడి జీవులు, పురుగులు కూడా గయాసురుణ్ణి చూసి, తాకి మోక్షం పొందసాగాయి. స్వర్గానికి గాని నరకానికి గానీ వచ్చే జీవులు లేకుండా పోయి స్వర్గ నరకాలు రెండూ ఖాళీ అవుతాయి.
దేవతలంతా బ్రహ్మదేవుడి దగ్గరకు వెళ్ళి తరుణోపాయం తెలుపమని వేడుకొనగా బ్రహ్మ దేవుడు గయాసురుని దగ్గరకు వెళ్ళి తాను చేయదలచిన యాజ్గ్నానికి గయాసురుని శరీరాన్ని ఇవ్వమని అడుగుతాడు. స్వయంగా బ్రహ్మదేవుడే కోరటంచేత అది మహాభాగ్యంగా భావించి గయాసురుడు ఒప్పుకొంటాడు.
అప్పడు బ్రహ్మ గయాసురుణ్ణి చూసి యజ్గ్నం జరిగేటప్పుడు ఆ వేడికి నీ శరీరం కదులుతుంది కనుక కదలకుండా ఉండమని అడుగుతాడు. దానికి గయాసురుడు కదలకుండా చూసుకునే భాద్యత మీదే అని అంటాడు.
తరువాత గయాసురుడు పడుకోగా అతని తల కోలాహ పర్వతం వద్దకు, పాదాలు (పీఠికాపురం) పిఠాపురం వద్దకు వస్తాయి. గయాసురుని వక్షస్థలం మీద కట్టెలు వేసి బ్రహ్మ యజ్గ్నం మొదలు పెడతాడు .యజ్గ్నంలో నుండి వచ్చే వేడికి గయాసురుడు అప్రయత్నంగా కదలసాగాడు. అపుడు బ్రహ్మదేవుడు యముడిని పిలచి మీ లోకములో వున్న పెద్ద ధర్మశిలను తెచ్చి గయిడి తలమీద పెట్టమన్నాడు. యమడు అలా చేసినా కూడా గయుడు కదులుతూనే ఉన్నాడు. అపుడు బ్రహ్మదేవుడు ఆ ధర్మశిల మీదకు విష్ణువుని ఆవాహన చేస్తాడు.
వెంటనే విష్ణువు సకల దేవతల సమేతంగా వచ్చి ధర్మశిలపై నిలబడ్డాడు. బరువుకి గయిడు కదలలేకపోతాడు. అగ్నిభాధను, సకల దేవతల బరువును సంతోషంగా సహిస్తూ ఉన్న గయాసురుని చూసి విష్ణువు ఏదైనా వరం కోరుకొమ్మంటాడు.
’’దేవా నా తలపై నీ పాదాలు ఇలాగే శాశ్వతంగా ఉండనీ. ఈ శిల బరువుకి నేను భూమిలోకి పోయి ప్రజలు నన్ను చూడటానికి వీలు కాదు. కానీ నా తలపై నిలచిన నీపాదాలను చూసిన వారికి ఉత్తమ గతి కలుగునట్లు వరమివ్వమంటాడు. నీ పాద క్షేత్రాన్ని నాపేరు మీదుగా స్మరిస్తూ ఇక్కడే కాకుండి ఎక్కడ పిండ ప్రధానం చేసినా సరే, ఆ వంశం వృద్ధి చేందేటట్లు మరియు తనకు ఆయుష్షు తీరగానే మోక్షమివ్వమని వరమడుగుతాడు. విష్ణువు ఆనందంగా తధాస్తు అని దీవిస్తాడు.
అప్పటి నుండి గయ పిండప్రధానమై క్షేత్రంగా పేరు పొందినది. ఈ ప్రాంతంలోనే సతీదేవి యొక్క శరీరభాగం పడటం చేత శక్తిపీఠంగా మారింది. సర్వమంగళాలను ప్రసాదించే ఈ తేజోమూర్తిని దేవతలు, మునులు సర్వమంగళాదేవి అని కీర్తించారు.

There is fifteen days difference in starting time of Shravana month depending on the followed lunar calendar in the region. In Purnimant calendar, usually followed by North Indian states, Shravana month starts fifteen days before Amavasyant calendar.
In Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Amavasyant Lunar Calendar is followed while in North Indian states Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Bihar Purnimant Calendar is followed. Hence half of Mangala Gauri dates differ in both calendars.

The temple is facing east and is built on top of the Mangalagauri hill. A flight of steps and a motorable road lead to it. The sanctum houses the symbol of the Goddess and it has some finely carved ancient relief sculptures. A small hall or mandap stands in front of the temple. The courtyard houses a fire pit for the home.
There are two minor shrines dedicated to Shiva and images of Mahishasura Mardini, Durga and Dakshina Kali.
The temple complex encompasses of temples of Maa Kali, Lord Ganesha, Lord Hanuman and Lord Shiva.
It is a very old temple built in 15th century. We have to climb up a small hillock to reach the temple. The steps route is in between houses of local people. At the starting of steps route there is temple of Bhima (One of Five Pandavas). We can see his knee impression here. Here Bhima did Shraddhakarma, hence called as Bhimvedi Gaya.
After climbing around 200 steps we will reach Mangala Gowri temple campus. There are several temples in that campus. Lord Ganesh temple, Lord Shiva temple and very old temple of Lord Janardhan swamy, Kali maa temple, Breast fallen place present in the campus. A Bilwa tree also present in that temple.
Ganesh temple present in front of main temple. Beside that Lord Shiva temple also present. We can do pradakshina to temple. In the backside of temple, adjacent to temple wall there is a sacred place where Sati devi sthana fell. Beside this place Kali maa idol is there. Main temple is very small temple and only 2 to 3 members can go into the temple at a time. There is no idol in the temple. We can see Breast of Satidevi in deepa lighting. Lord Shiva also present in the form of Shivaling beside maa. Some Tantriks will offer Bali to Mother Goddess.
Importance of Gaya:
Gaya will be considered as must see place for every Hindu. This is because of its greatness for Shraddha karmas. This is the best place to do Shraddha karmas. Vishnupad temple, where Lord Vishnu stood upon Dharmavrata Shila on head of Gayasura, is the important temple in Gaya. Lord Gadadhara is the main diety here. This temple present beside Holy Phalguni river. This place is also considered as one of Sapta Mokshapuras and Pancha Gaya kshetras.
Lord Buddha also got salvation in Gaya. He started his teachings after getting Gnana in Gaya. A very famous Bodhivriksha, which is the important tourist place for Buddhists also present in Gaya. Here Lord Buddha statue is completely made up of Pure gold.

कालिका पुराण के अनुसार, गया में सती का स्तन मंडल भस्मकूट पर्वत के ऊपर गिरकर दो पत्थर बन गए थे. इसी प्रस्तरमयी स्तन मंडल में मंगलागौरी मां नित्य निवास करती हैं जो मनुष्य शिला का स्पर्श करते हैं, वे अमरत्व को प्राप्त कर ब्रह्मलोक में निवास करते हैं. इस शक्तिपीठ की विशेषता यह है कि मनुष्य अपने जीवन काल में ही अपना श्राद्ध कर्म यहां संपादित कर सकता है.
