Boracay Coral Planting August 2012
The Philippines is rich in natural marine resources. However, sustaining these resources is a challenge. The Philippines Department of Science & Technology is now commencing their Boracay Island pilot project of reef restoration, the fifth such project in the country. The project involves coral nurseries on some of Boracay's shallow dive sites, plus an aquarium incubator to grow corals for transplantation. August 2012 saw dive center staff from the island attend a training day to learn techniques for coral transplantation.

S&P Global Mangrove Rehabilitation Program
Hands On Manila - Mangrove Rehabilitation
From Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 4:30am to 2:00pm
Did you know that Mangroves provide Economic as well as Ecological benefits?
They are a good source of products like alcohol, medicine, tannin, charcoal, timber and housing materials.
They support fisheries production and aquaculture;
They provide nursery grounds, shelter and food for fishes and other sea creatures;
They protect coastal communities from storm surges, strong waves, tides and currents;
They act as carbon sink by reducing organic pollution along sea shores;
They serve as recreational ground for wildlife enthusiasts; and,
They stabilize the coastline by reducing erosion
Of the world's more than 70 mangrove species, around 46 species are found in various parts of the Philippines. Sadly, Philippine mangroves are under threat due to: Conversion of mangroves to fishponds and salt beds; Reclamation, Pollution, and siltation from upland communities; Human overexploitation and utilization, i.e. over-cutting for timber, charcoal and housing materials.
