The Museum’s collections reflect the heritage of Manitoba and other regions of the world. Our nine interpretive galleries explore the interrelationship of people and their environment. Travel through millions of years as you journey from north to south across Manitoba’s vast and varied landscape, from the icy arctic coast to the windswept prairies.
The Museum is noted for its three-dimensional walk-through galleries. Highlights include the Nonsuch, a full-size 17th-century sailing vessel, and the Urban Gallery, which takes you back in time to Winnipeg during the 1920s.

The Manitoba Museum located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, is home to Manitoba's history. The Call it Home program offers students an opportunity to visit the museum and explore the history of Manitoba, care of the wonderful galleries that tell our story. The world famous Nonsuch Gallery showcases a replica of the famous ship that sailed from England across the atlantic into the Hudson Bay in 1668 helping to establish the fur trade in Manitoba. So encouraged were investors by the outcomes of the voyage, they approached King Charles for a charter to establish a trading company. The Hudson Bay company was founded in May, 1670, which became instrumental in the founding of the Province of Manitoba. Be transported back to a time of fur trading and sea travel. Manitoba Museum: The Hudson Bay Gallery Collection
The Hudson Bay Company collection spans three centuries of the Company’s history and contains more than 10,000 artifacts. The Collection is one of the world’s most significant early European Settler and Indigenous, and Aboriginal historic resources.
One-half of the Collection originated in Indigenous, Aboriginal, First Nation, Métis, and Inuit communities, and illustrates traditional art and culture, objects, artifacts, lifestyles, and unique adaptations to the world of the commercial fur trade in Canada. These artifacts were acquired by the Hudson’s Bay Company through purchase, trade, ceremonial gift exchange and donations from fur traders and their families.
Together with the Nonsuch replica, the Hudson’s Bay Company Museum Collection establishes the Museum as an international centre for northwestern North American fur trade research, and a major cultural tourism destination.

The Woman's Vote in Winnipeg, Manitoba and across Canada changed history. Did someone in your family march alongside Nelie McClung? The Manitoba Museum is actively looking for individuals or organizations who would be interested in loaning or donating artifacts that relate to the Women's Vote and Suffrage Movement in Manitoba and Canada, to be showcased alongside artifacts already collected by the Manitoba Museum for an Exhibit to open in 2016 marking the 100th anniversary of the first Woman in Manitoba who were granted the right to vote, paving a path for Woman of all class and background the same right over the next decades to come. The Exhibit will be on display to the public throughout 2016.

The Manitoba Museum Lake Winnipeg Shared Solutions Exhibit focusses on issues facing Lake Winnipeg. The exhibit centres around a virtual reality/video simulation game that lets visitors make choices that affect the Lake's health and then see the results of their actions on the environment.
The game is a one-of-a-kind experience where visitors' find solutions that support and sustain the Lake Winnipeg Watershed and water supply. We can affect climate change in Manitoba. Help clean and save Lake Winnipeg!
Lake Winnipeg is the largest of the Lakes in Manitoba and the 10th largest fresh water lake in the world. Lake Winnipeg was listed as the most threatened lake in the world in 2013 by the Global Nature. Lake Winnipeg suffers from algal blooms and pollution that seep into the Lake Winnipeg Water Basin. The Lake Winnipeg: Shared Solutions is the first integration of virtual reality/video simulation technology and pure water science in Canada.
