Mannarasala Sree Nagaraja Temple is one of the ancient Snake Temples in Kerala. This Serpant Temple is is located 3 km from Harippad in Alappuzha district of Kerala. The Mannarasala Temple has over 30,000 images of snakes along the paths and is the only temple with a woman chief priest. The Primary deity of this famous shrine is Nagaraja, the Snake God. The Aayilyam festival in Mannarassala Nagaraja Temple is very popular. Maha Shivaratri is another important festival celebrated in Mannarassala Sree Nagaraja Temple. The temple is open for devotees from 5.30 AM - 8.30 PM.

Mannarasala Nagaraja temple, Alappuzha
The road passes via. Ambalapuzha, Purakkad, Thottappally, Karuvatta and Harippad. Mannarasala Nagaraja temple is 3 km from Harippad. Ayilam is on 9 Nov 2009. It is the only temple with a woman chief priest. There are a number of 'kavus' with a number of serpent god statues. Offerings in the temple are Noorum palum Rs 150, Payasam -Rs 30. Pulluvan pattu (serpent pleasing song using a string instrument - pulluvan kudam) is another offering.

Situated near Harippad, this is a serpent shrine under the patronage of a brahmin family, headed by a priestess. The ancient shrine is an internationally renowned pilgrim centre dedicated to the Serpent God - Nagaraja. Sarpa Yakshi and Naga Yakshi are the beloved consorts of Nagaraja. It is believed that Nagaraja as the installed diety is endowed with the form of Hari (Lord Vishnu) and the spirit of Lord Shiva.
Legend has it that the first priestess of Mannarasala gave birth to a five-headed snake, which is believed to reside in the ancestral house to safeguard the family. At Mannarasala barren women are believed to be blessed with children and a special turmeric paste available at the shrine is credited with powers to cure even leprosy.
