It is located in Kaivopuisto, Helsinki.
From Helsinki Central Railway Station you can get there easily by taking a tram (light trail) number 3. And last you have to walk couple of hundred meter to the south. Museum is open round the year. Opening days are friday, saturday and sunday. Opening times 11.00-16.00.

Vaasassa vuonna 1918. Mannerheim ja koirat. Finland parade
Venäjällä vallankumoukset katkaisivat Mannerheimin nousujohteisen armeijauran, ja hän alkoi vaikuttaa monella tapaa nousevan Suomen tasavallan elämään. Mannerheim toimi mm. Suomen suuriruhtinaskunnan viimeisillä säätyvaltiopäivillä sukunsa edustajana.
Keskeisin rooli Mannerheimilla oli kuitenkin Suomessakin sotilaana. Suomen itsenäistymisen jälkeen Mannerheimista tuli sotilaskomitean puheenjohtaja ja myöhemmin ylipäällikkö. Hänen tehtävänsä oli riisua venäläiset joukot aseista ja muodostaa valkoisten armeija.
Suomen muu poliittinen johto kannatti saksalaisten antamaa turvaa, mitä Mannerheim vierasti. Hän joutui kuitenkin taipumaan linjauksestaan, sillä Saksan antama tuki oli keskeinen.
Keisarillinen Saksa romahti 1918, joten Suomessa tuli tehdä hallituksen vaihdos. Valtionhoitajaksi kutsuttiin Mannerheim. Hyvien länsisuhteidensa avulla hän sai Suomeen elintarvikekuljetuksia. Mm. Iso-Britannia ja Yhdysvallat tunnustivat Suomen itsenäisyyden.
Sotien välisenä aikana Mannerheim siirtyi väliaikaisesti sivuun valtiojohdosta, ja hän perusti mm. Mannerheimin Lastensuojeluliiton.
Lapuan liikkeen voiman kehittyessä Mannerheim seurasi tilannetta sivummalta, vaikka häntä toivottiinkin liikkeen johtoon.
1930-luvun alussa presidentti Svinhufvud nimitti Mannerheimin puolustusneuvoston puheenjohtajaksi ja sodanaikaiseksi ylipäälliköksi. Sotamarsalkan arvon hän sai 1933.
