10 nights dive safari aboard the Manthiri dive safari liveaboard, an underwater exploration of Maldives' South Male Atoll and Ari Atoll.
i was surprised at what bad shape Maldives corals are in, not just bleached but maybe two or three times over! Dead coral and ugly reef everywhere, but here's another surprise: FISH ABOUND in huge schools, not just in volume but also in variety! Reminds of something Dr. Steven Webster said a few times back -- even if the corals die, the fish remain -- where would they go? For me, this trip was proof positive of this truth.

MV Orion Liveaboard Shark Safari Tour - Feb 2016 Scuba Diving in the Maldives
With around 400 dives under my belt I thought it’d be good to try a liveaboard boat. We tried the Maldivian MV Orion yacht on their ’shark safari’ tour in Feb 2016. The boat departed from Male in the Maldives, and we dived and sailed south through all the atolls finishing in the Gaafu Alifu Atoll. This video is some of the amazing subjects we saw. I compiled the video clips over a 9-day live-aboard trip with Manthiri liveaboards out of Male, the main island in capital of the Maldives.
