Hiking The West Woods | Geauga County Parks, OH
The West Woods, Home to Ansel's Cave and Affelder Falls, is located in Geauga County, OH. It is part of the Geauga County Parks system, and has 4.2 miles of trails that wind through approximately 900 acres of woodland.
Ansel's Cave is closed to the public. However, it can be viewed from a boardwalk that runs adjacent to the cave on the appropriately named Ansel's Cave Trail. Geauga County Parks sometimes offer a guided tour of the cave.
Affelder Falls is accessible by a short 1/4 mile hike. The waterfall has low flow, so it's best to visit after a heavy rainfall if you're looking to see the falls in action.

Freed Illegal Mexican Charged With Rape, Murder, Attempted Murder
July 29, 2015 - Lake County shooting suspect arraigned, bond set at $10M: PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- Alleged shooter Juan Emmanuel Razo was arraigned Tuesday afternoon in Painesville Municipal Court.
Judge Michael Cicconetti set his bond at $10 million and set Monday for a preliminary hearing.
Razo was charged with attempted murder in the shooting of a woman who was walking on the Greenway Corridor bike path with two children. She was shot in the left arm and was treated at TriPoint Medical Center.
Prosecutors and the Lake County Sheriff's Office said at the arraignment that they are expecting to further charge Razo with the attempted rape in Concord of a 14-year-old girl, the murder of Peggy Kostelnik in her home on Ravenna Road and with shooting at law enforcement officers when they tried to apprehend him Monday afternoon.
Prosecutors and the sheriff's deputies stated in court that Razo gave a full confession to deputies.
Razo was represented by a public defender who entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.
The sheriff's department also recounted that on July 7, Razo was detained regarding a suspicious vehicle incident and that the U.S. Border Patrol agents told sheriff's deputies that he was here illegally from Mexico but border patrol agents refused to
Razo could not produce a driver's license, a green card, a birth certificate nor any kind of identification.
How in the hell do I even know it's him? Cicconetti said loudly.
When Cicconetti heard what the further charges were likely to be, he remarked I can't set a bond high enough and set it at $10 million.
Background
In a news conference Tuesday morning, officials identified the shooter alleged in two shootings that left one woman injured and another woman dead.
Police were called out to the scene on a report of an attempted rape of a 14-year-old girl. The suspect was the girl's uncle, Juan Emmanuel Razo, 35, of Painesville, who now faces an attempted murder charge.
Officials say he has no local criminal record, but his legal status remains in question. They anticipate he will face more charges as the investigation continues.
Peggy Kostelnik, 60, was found dead by her husband inside their home int he 6000 block of Ravenna Road, which is directly behind the Greenway area where another woman was shot in the arm.
A woman, who had two children with her while on the Greenway, was shot in the left arm. She was taken to TriPoint Medical Center for treatment of a gunshot wound to the arm.
Kostelnik worked as an assistant to the mayor for the City of Willoughby.
Razo is being held at the Lake County Jail.
On Monday afternoon, the FBI, Painesville Police, Lake Metroparks rangers, the Lake County Sheriff's Department and other local agencies responded to an area by the Greenway Corridor in the area of state Route 84 and Liberty Street/Ravenna Road Monday.
In a statement Concord Township officials released Monday night, residents were told:
Residents should know that the danger is over and they may resume their normal activities.
Just before 5 p.m. Monday, WKYC's crew watched as Painesville police officers -- with guns drawn -- were headed into the Metroparks at the intersection of SR 84 and Liberty Street.
The Concord Fire Department tells WKYC that the woman on the Greenway was taken to TriPoint Medical Center in Concord with a gunshot wound to the left arm.
WKYC's Dawn Kendrick was at the scene and says that the woman told authorities that she heard gunshots and screamed, Don't shoot, don't shoot, I have kids.
Neither of the children were hurt.

The home sits on a gorgeous well manicured 13.26 parcel in the highly desirable Highland Local School District. Included with this property is a build-able 15.08 acre lot with gas and oil well. Both lots have their own separate driveways and are zoned Field and Seed so the new owners will benefit from a CAUV credit as well as FREE gas thanks to the gas well. The home is so private that draperies are unnecessary. And the lots are extremely conducive to camping in your own back yard! Imagine the memories you'd create!!
Rare is the home that embodies style, function, and comfort all in the same setting. This sprawling ALL brick colonial does. The home is comfortable not pretentious. The airy space, vast windows, modern sensibility, and a neutral palette of taupe throughout ensures that its the extraordinary views that captivate you and take center stage. The lake, along with gorgeous flowering trees and the well-planned lush landscaping that frame the home provide the birds-eye panorama you see throughout the entire home. A very open floor plan with expansive windows and sliding glass patio doors on both the first and finished walkout lower level is ideal for entertaining inside and out. Oodles of storage and closet space ensure clutter is hidden away.
On the 1st floor you will find a large welcoming 2-story marble foyer with imported crystal chandelier, a formal dining room with large picture window and another imported crystal chandelier, a step down formal living room with fish tank and wall of windows that bring natural light and gorgeous views front and center, a granite and maple eat-in kitchen with center island and pantry that's open to a large dinette for daily dining, a billiards room with cherry wet bar that too is open to the rest of the 1st floor living area, a two-sided solid masonry gas fireplace in the hallway that separates the dining room from the family room, a powder room, a 1st floor bedroom with full bath across the hall (great for older live-in parents), and a window-filled vaulted indoor heated bromine pool room (6-7 feet deep) with Delzone purification system, skylights, pine ceiling, dining area, and a full bath. The dinette, the family room, the living room, the indoor pool room, and the 1st floor bedroom all have access to the expansive rear deck that spans the rear of the home. This is exceptionally nice when entertaining!!
On the 2nd floor, the spacious four (4) bedroom layout offers great flow and great views. All of the bedrooms have en-suite baths, and except for one bedroom, they all have walk-in closets with closet systems too. Two of the bedrooms have huge enchanting lofts with spiral wooden staircases for sleep, play, work study, or as added space for sleepovers. The vaulted owners suite has a gas fireplace with granite-surround, a private balcony overlooking the lake, an imported crystal chandelier, two walk-in closets, a huge make-up vanity with storage, and two en-suite granite and marble baths -- one with a shower, vanity, toilet, and bidet and a much larger bath with corner tub, marble shower, dual sinks, and a toilet. Having the master on the 2nd floor with the remaining bedrooms is the preferred layout for those with children because you can hear them in the middle of the night if they become sick or scared. Completing the 2nd floor is a lighted floor-to-ceiling display case just outside the owners suite, a Library with French doors and built-in wall unit, a huge laundry room with tons of closet space, a small reading nook, a huge storage area over the 4-car side entry garage with epoxy floors and hot & cold water, and a well-insulated unfinished walk-up attic.
The full walk-out lower level has a huge open entertainment area with three-sided gas fireplace. It leads to a concrete patio and to a brick paver patio. Open to this space is a full kitchen with appliances. Theres also an exercise room and a guest bedroom -- both with sliding glass doors leading to the patios -- plus two full baths, a 2nd laundry room, a theatre room, possible wine cellar, and two utility rooms. Theres definitely the possibility here for an in-law suite i...
