Perched on a hill, the medieval town of Rye is the sort of place you thought existed only in your imagination. It's small enough to make you feel at home almost straight away but holds enough secret treasures to entice you to stay much longer.
When you're in need of a treat or want to escape the pressures of modern life, come to Rye.
With only 5000 inhabitants, it retains a village atmosphere and old-fashioned values.
A town to be explored and enjoyed on foot. Rye is a small town in East Sussex, England, which stands approximately two miles from the open sea and is at the confluence of three rivers: the Rother, the Tillingham and the Brede. In medieval times, however, as an important member of the Cinque Ports confederation, it was at the head of an embayment of the English Channel and almost entirely surrounded by the sea. The name of Rye is believed to come from Norman French rie meaning a bank. Medieval maps show that Rye was originally located on a huge embayment of the English Channel called the Rye Camber, which provided a safe anchorage and harbour. Probably as early as Roman times, Rye was important as a place of shipment and storage of iron from the Wealden Iron Industry. The Mermaid Inn originally dates to 1156. The town Rye in South England (one of the Cinque Ports) has a historic centre, known as the Citadel. At its heart stands the Church of St Mary the Virgin.

Rye, (UK VLOG)
Rye apparently is a small town and civil parish in the Rother district, in East Sussex, England, two miles from the sea at the confluence of three rivers: the Rother, the Tillingham and the Brede. In medieval times, as an important member of the Cinque Ports confederation, it was at the head of an embayment of the English Channel, and almost entirely surrounded by the sea.
Rye had a population of about 5 thousands. Its historical association with the sea has included providing ships for the service of the King in time of war, and being involved in smuggling.
The notorious Hawkhurst Gang used its ancient inns The Mermaid Inn and The Olde Bell Inn, which are said to be connected to each other by a secret passageway.
Those historic roots and its charm[ make it a tourist destination, with hotels, guest houses, B&Bs, tea rooms, and restaurants.[4] It has a small fishing fleet, and Rye Harbour has facilities for yachts and other vessels.

Rye & East Sussex, England // September 2018
For a relaxing weekend away, we decided to head to the south coast of England and explore the quaint town of Rye. Hopping in the car in London and driving down, we stopped in Dungeness and spent some time in Rye Harbour. To end off our first day, we took in golden hour and sunset from the Camber Sands. Altogether, East Sussex made for the perfect escape from the city.

Rye at Christmas 2018 [4K]
A video capturing my family's Christmas holiday in the ancient town of Rye. Located in East Sussex, it is one of England’s best kept secrets. Nestled between green rolling hills and the English Channel, it’s one of the best-preserved medieval towns in England. Crooked half-timbered houses line a muddle of steep cobbled lanes, leading to medieval inns and historic churches.
This setting transported me to another time, so I felt it was a perfect opportunity to pay homage to my favourite living composer, Jeremy Soule. The music that accompanies my footage is one of my favourite compositions of his, aptly titled 'The Streets of Whiterun' from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, a video game by Bethesda Game Studios.
These videos are now a regular occurrence that have become really important to me. Since 2014, my family and I have travelled to a different place in England on Boxing Day and I capture the positive vibes and creatively catalogue what we do as a family for my own memories. This year, we decided to spend both Christmas Day and Boxing Day away from home. No matter how busy I may be, I now take a week out for Christmas and New Year's celebrations each year to make a video like this. It reminds me how important it is to enjoy my creative craft and make content for myself rather than others on occasion. In the distant future, I'll have something tangible to look back on and I imagine that these videos will be more special than any photo album could ever be. I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I did making it!
