Dog Sledding with Seward Helicopter tour Alaska
Amazing experience...thing of a lifetime !!!
Helicopter and Dog Sledding on a Glacier in Alaska - Seward
There are some glaciers you can drive to, but very few that you can stroll to. Just 15 miles from Seward—where many cruises embark and disembark—Exit Glacier is one of the most popular road-accessible glaciers in the state. In fact, you can walk almost right up to the face of it in 30 minutes, by way of the Edge of the Glacier Trail.
Exit Glacier is not huge, but it looks big up close, so it makes a great place for photos. It’s also a good spot to learn about glacial movement, since it’s receding quickly; there's even a guide marking its recession over the past 120 years.
The well-developed trails here have good footing and interpretive signs, explaining the return of plant life after the ice. There’s also a self-guided audio tour on The Alaska App, narrated by the Park Service’s chief interpretive ranger.
If you’re looking for more of an adventure, take the Harding Icefield Trail, which climbs 3,500 feet in 4 miles, and gives great views of the glacier. There are also guided hikes on the glacier, if you want to strap on crampons and walk on the ice.

Alaska Seward Mount Marathon 1988
Highlites from the 1988 Seward Mount Marathon. Dan Debenham, Kathy Day and our talented KIMO crew battle the elements and a quick turn-around time in covering this this truely unique Alaskan race. I ran the helicopter camera standing on the skids - then raced back and worked an all-nighter to get the show ready to air the next day..
.
(from ADN)
The KIMO crew wrapped up shooting the race in Seward at about 5 p.m. The tape was flown home, arriving at the station about 7 p.m. and then the editing began.
A total of 10 people worked on the 30 minute show; Dave Bellamy was the chief editor and, with help from Terry Burge, worked on it Saturday night, the night of the race, and the nextday. In fact, they were putting the final touches on it up until a half hour before its 6:30 p.m. air time.
The entire project was pulled off within a 24 hour time period that had the crew feeling like it had run the marathon instead of just covering it.
You get to a point where you're so burned out, you can't get going, said Kathy Day, one of the co-hosts of the show.
The principal crew involved in the show slept about four hours Saturday night.
The result was a slick, polished effort with good use of music intertwined with timely interviews with the frontrunners. The station chartered a helicopter and so had excellent footage of the runners trudging up the 3,022foot mountain. The film of the runners sliding down the snow was exhilarating.
Spectators weren't allowed too far up the mountain so this was a part of the race few people got to see. In fact, the show is probably the only way to get an idea of the race as a whole.

I first started my journey in Anchorage, the central city of Alaska. The weather in the middle of June was very sunny. Anchorage was the crossroads of airlines connecting the Americas, Asia and Europe to the shortest distance before the collapse of the Soviet Union. I am looking at the milestone, but a red bus is approaching. It is an old city bus-shaped tour bus in Anchorage. I decided to take the bus and take a tour of downtown Anchorage. When I was a child, it was not the forest where I saw it. There was an earthquake in 1964. Anchorage was a massive earthquake in 1964, and many of the buildings were destroyed. And, the forests are dense in the city. It's like a power house, and people from other parts of the world are envious. The most impressive thing is that there are as many seaplanes as cars. A seaplane is essential in this wide area.

Alaska Hiking ~ Caines Head Coastal Trail ~ 1
The Caines Head Trail begins at Lowell State Park in Seward, Alaska. In this video the first 1 1/2 miles of the trail is shown. It covers the park area down to the Tosina river and where the coastal beach part of the trail begins. The river bridge is out and has been out since 2006 and the park ranger said it might be another few years before it gets fixed as they are doing minor repairs out on North & South Beach part of the trail.
Remember this hiking trail has to be hiked during low tide or it impassable because a trail does not exisit in the rocky wooded land. And if you hike out, expect to wait until the next low tide to return, so an overnight stay is recommended. Also plan it on a negative low tide to eliminate rock climbing on slippery wet rocks that you wont beable to go around unless you wade in the ocean water, but can during the negative low tides.

Late in 2013, we were in Anchorage, AK shooting a commercial campaign for pickclickgive.org
Before we started principal photography, I went out on a little adventure alone, and then when my colleagues arrived later that week, they joined. Together, we had a little photo/video adventure.

Exit Glacier Ice Climbing
Hiked about 2 miles in Kenai Fjords National Park to Exit Glacier. We then ice climbed into 3 different crevasses. Probably one of the most amazing experiences I've ever had.

Kodiak, Alaska
Kodiak is one of seven communities and the main city on Kodiak Island, Kodiak Island Borough, in the U.S. state of Alaska. All commercial transportation between the entire island and the outside world goes through this city either via ferryboat or airline. The population was 6,130 as of the 2010 census.
Originally inhabited by Alutiiq natives for over 7000 years, the city was settled in the 18th century by the subjects of the Russian crown and became the capital of Russian Alaska. Harvesting of the area's sea otter pelts led to the near extinction of the animal in the following century and led to wars with and enslavement of the natives for over 150 years. As part of the Alaska Purchase by the United States in 1867, Kodiak became a commercial fishing center which continues to this day. A lesser economic influence includes tourism, mainly by those seeking outdoor adventure trips. Salmon, halibut, the unique Kodiak bear, elk, Sitka deer, and mountain goats invite hunting tourists as well as fishermen to the Kodiak Archipelago. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game maintains an office in the city and a website to help hunters and fishermen obtain the proper permits and learn about the laws specific to the Kodiak area. The city has four public elementary schools, a middle and high school, as well as a branch of the University of Alaska. An antenna farm at the summit of Pillar Mountain above the city historically provided communication with the outside world before fiber optic cable was run. Transportation to and from the island is provided by ferry service on the Alaska Marine Highway as well as local commercial airlines.

Lost Lake Alaska Trail Scenery
Here are some nice shots of the Lost Lake Alaska Trail near Seward Alaska. My friend and I hiked this trail twice, once in June of 2010 (first day of summer) when we ran into deep snow 3/4 of the way up the trail. We had to turn around at that point and hike back, but the next year (Sept 2011) we made the full 7.5 mile trek (round trip is 15 miles). Probably the greatest experience of our 2 week trip to Alaska. I consider the Lost Lake Trail even more beautiful than Denali National Park which we also RV'd to. if you would like to know more about hiking, fishing and RV'ng Alaska....Thanks for viewing......Al Parker
Vlog_39 | Glacier Hiking in Alaska!
Hiking's cool and all, we found that hiking on a glacier is about as cool as it gets. Alaska has lots of glaciers and we got to hike one of them when we were in Seward Alaska. It was our first time using crampons and being on a glacier and it's certainly an experience we'll never forget.
Talk about awesome experiences. we also got to camp along the beach in Seward and we got the chance to see some pretty neat wildlife like puffins, whales, and some seals chilling on the rocks out in the Gulf of Alaska. It's been a great couple of weeks in Alaska, but now it's time to head back to the Lower 48 to continue on with our yearlong journey.
Oh and Adam's computer is fixed and it's now lightning fast!
