Marayur or Marayoor is a town in Idukki district of Kerala, India. It is located 39 kilometers north of Munnar on SH 17 connecting Munnar with Udumalpet, Tamil Nadu. Marayur is the only place in Kerala that has natural sandalwood forests. Ancient dolmens and rock paintings in Marayur date back to the Stone Age
Marayur claims to be a part of a Stone Age civilization that is as old as 10,000 B.C. It is also home to a later period of large-scale dolmen-building.People migrated from Tamil Nadu to this area when the Madurai king Thirumalainaicker was defeated by Tippu Sultan, in the eighteenth century CE. The migrants created five villages, being Kanthalloor, Keezhanthur, Karayur, Marayur and Kottakudi. These villages were called the Anju nadu, literally meaning five lands
Megalithic Dolmens called Muniyaras, these dolmens belong to the Iron Age. These dolmenoids were burial chambers made of four stones placed on edge and covered by a fifth stone called the cap stone. Some of these Dolmenoids contain several burial chambers, while others have a quadrangle scooped out in laterite and lined on the sides with granite slabs. These are also covered with cap stones.

WOW!! I fed a Bison at Marayoor Sandal Reserve Forest, Munnar
We have shot this video in Marayoor Sandal Reserve on a afternoon time, while moving from Udumlapet to Munnar. We reached the Marayoor Sandal Reserve around 01 PM on 31-Dec-2015. This Reserve forest is fenced to protect the wild life as well as to protect the sandalwood trees. We had a beautiful weather on that day. All of us were enjoying the climate and watching the Wild Life Sanctuary. Suddenly we noticed a Bison close to the fence not moving anywhere. I was just watching the Bison, it was trying to eat the grass land outside the fence. initially thrown a piece of grass to the bison, it started eating, then I went close to the fence and started feeding the Bison. It was thrilling experience.

A Bike Ride From Marayoor to Munnar | Jaunt Monkey Rides
Marayoor is a a hillstation in Kerala close to Chinnar wildlife sanctuary and Munnar. Munnar, the renowned hillstation in South India is just 40 kilometers from Marayoor.
I started off from Marayoor pretty early in the morning. It was the continuation of my bike ride from Kochi to Kochi via Athirappally Vazhachal, Malakkappara, Valparai, Aliyar Dam, Marayoor, and Munnar. That day morning I was having a bike ride from Marayoor to Munnar.
While I started from Marayoor, I enjoyed the view of distant mountains and nearby farm fields. Slowly my journey was through the natural sandalwood forests. In less than a few minutes I started to experience the beautiful tea gardens of Munnar. The view of lush green Western Ghats and the falling streams were soothing.
On my way, I passed by the famous Eravikulam National Park. The park is famous for its endangered Nilgiri Thar (South Indian Mountain Goats) and Neelakurinji. Nilakurinji is a colony of plants that blooms just once in 16 years. If you love to have a visit to Eravikulam National Park, the tickets are available on their website (you need to book your ticket at least 48 hours before your day of visit).
Soon after Eravikulam National Park I started riding through the famous Munnar Town. #jauntmonkey
