Margam Stones Museum 190724
A brief look around Margam Stones Museum where many of the ancient British/Welsh/Cymric stones have been collected.
There is little acknowledgement of the British history in the museum but it is still good to see that the stones are there and if anyone has read around the subject it is worth a visit.
It is also very close to the battle site of Mynydd Baedon - ;Mount Badon' - and a series of videos on that is following.
For more on the stones I would recommend the works of Wilson and Blackett.
Garath Wood - The Margam Stones
This is my favorite Garath Wood piece for brass band (although Hinemoa is a good close second).
Three movements:
- Part 1: The Castle
- Part 2: The Orangery
- Part 3: The Abbey
When on holiday in South Wales we made a point of going to the Margam Country park, and I was humming this piece all week, but especially as we explored the three places referenced in the music.
Unfortunately I've not been able to find a recording online, so I've uploaded this MP3 from a tape from a tape from a vinyl recording that I've had gathering dust for some 20 odd years.
I have no idea who is playing it, and to be perfectly honest, the performance isn't a great one - it certainly doesn't do justice to the music - but it's all I have.
If you know of a better recording, I'd very much like to hear of it - would love to hear a good quality performance of this piece.

Ancient Welsh stones of Margham Park
Are these stones really in Ogham or Coelbren?
Are they more evidence of ancient Welsh writing and civilisation that does not involve Romans?

Elgin Museum Collection Highlight: Kinneddar Pictish Stone
Janet Trythall, Vice-President of The Moray Society and volunteer at Elgin Museum, talks about her favourite object from the Museum's collection – a Pictish stone from Kinneddar (Drainie) (ELGNM: 2009.11) classified as Class II (by the Romilly & Allen classification scheme). The stone is sandstone, carved on one face with a cross. The cross is decorated with an ornamented central boss, and traces of other ornamentation can be seen on the arms. In the panels surrounding the cross are more “traditional” Pictish symbols: (clockwise from bottom left) a comb symbol, a possible mirror, and fragments of key patterning.
In 1953, the ruins of the first Drainie Church were cleared to make way for a new RAF runway. The removed stones were deposited in the grounds of Gordonstoun School. This particular stone was single out as being of importance in 1965. It was loaned to Elgin Museum in 1994 and formally donated to the Museum in 2009.
This film was made possible thanks to the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund, and was produced as part of Elgin Museum's Year of History, Heritage & Archaeology 2017 programme of events.

King Arthur's burial site and the British 'Valley of the Kings'
The funeral service of King Arthur in the 6th Century was one of the best recorded events of the era. Royalty and Nobles came from across Britain and it is recorded in the English Bruts as well as the Welsh triads and in other historical sources.
The church is located next to an ancient driving route (route for driving livestock) and is adjacent to Caer Caradoc - the burial site of the ancient Kings of Britain/Wales.
Unfortunately, there is a denial of all history outside the Saxons and Normans and these sites are being sadly neglected.
They are easy to visit though and with no official interest are free. There is also some spectacular scenery to enjoy.
Ghost of ~ Caernarfon Castle.
The Floating Lady of Caernarfon Castle
Caernarfon is a royal town, community, and port in Gwynedd, Wales
Given its turbulent past, it is no surprise that Caernarfon Castle has a resident ghost...
Though this is not the ghost of a medieval or Roman soldier as one might suspect, but of a woman. The ghost of this female and sometimes glowing phantom has been spotted floating through the air, down the corridors of the castle. It has been reported that electrical equipment left at the castle overnight has been found tampered with upon returning to the castle the next day, often unexplained and then ascribed to the Floating Lady of Caernarfon Castle. Perhaps this is why she glows! There was a motte-and-bailey castle in the town of Caernarfon from the late 11th century until 1283 when King Edward I of England began replacing it with the current stone structure.History HERE

Ancient British Kings burial site woods
The first site visit in a series tracking down the sites of Brutus and the ancient British Kings recorded in the British/Welsh historical records.
Lasgarn Woods forms part of the burial site - necropolis of the Ancient British Kings. According to the records, this site, and the nearby Garndiffaeth (multitude of graves) dates back to 500BC or even earlier and there are remains clearly available of what could be ancient walls and burial mounds.

EYNSFORD CASTLE EXPLORE (11th century) Paranormal investigation UK
Eynsford Castle is a ruined medieval fortification in Eynsford, Kent. Built on the site of an earlier Anglo-Saxon stone burh, the castle was constructed by William de Enysford, probably between 1085 and 1087, to protect the lands of Lanfranc, the Archbishop of Canterbury, from Odo.
This place sure is #Haunted so I decided to #Explore and do a #Paranormal investigation here.
