Maribor In Your Pocket - Maribor Cathedral
First built in 1248 as a Romanesque basilica with a nave and two aisles, the cathedral gained its current appearance in the 15th century as a Gothic structure, though the Baroque chapels date from the 16th and 18th centuries. Inside, one is treated to the sight of a lavishly adorned altar, which lights up the place all on its own. Don't miss the stained glass window commemorating Pope John Paul II's trip to Slovenia in 1999. Trips to the top of the tower are also available from 08:00-18:00.

Bells Ringing Loud from the Ljubljana Cathedral, Ljubljana, Slovenia
Spent the morning walking around old Ljubljana town, Slovenia. When we were at Robba Fountain within the Ljubljana Town Square the bells of the nearby Ljubljana Cathedral rang loud. Although small, Ljubljana does pack a punch in terms of beauty and a relaxed atmosphere.
Istria (Slovenia) Vacation Travel Video Guide
The Slovenian-Croatian peninsula of Istria is one of Europe‘s oldest settlement areas, the Pearl Of Adria with an eventful history and much multicultural flair; a rich interface between both Mediterranean and mediaeval cultures. In Koper, Istria’s economic centre and most important harbour city, the Old Town can be entered through the last remaining twelve gates of the city’s former defensive wall. In its heyday the city boomed with wine, oil, salt and fish and many merchants and craftsmen from Italy settled there and the Palazzo Belgramoni Tacco became the region‘s museum. The mediaeval town of Piran is located on a narrow promontory that juts out into Piran Bay like the bow of a ship. On a cliff above the old town is the Sanct George Church, and a bell tower on the town’s fortified walls provides a splendid view of the mainland, a maze of roof tops and the main square. Travelling further south, Poreć is picturesquely situated on a peninsula and City Hall reveals much of its history. In 1267, Poreć, as Istria’s first city, was affiliated to the Serenissima and palaces, squares and religious buildings were constructed. In the fertile countryside lies yet another Istrian gem, Hum, the ‘smallest town in the world’ with its well-preserved gate, cobblestones and single lane. Portorož is the only real resort on the Slovenian Riviera with several hotels lining its waterfront and since the Danube Monarchy it has been a fashionable meeting place of the elite of Central Europe. Istria is a beauty with many faces, a rediscovered Adria dream and an almost forgotten paradise.

Ljubljana, Slovenia - Travel Around The World | Top best places to visit in Ljubljana
Top best places to visit in Ljubljana, Slovenia
Ljubljana is the capital and largest city of Slovenia.
Ljubljana has a nickname Little Prague because it is a charming town full of artists, museums, galleries, restaurants and cafes.
Prešeren Square, the central square in the city, formed in the 17th century, when the Franciscan Church of the Annunciation was built.
At the eastern side of the square, the Statue of France Preseren, for the greatest poet in the nation, was erected.
The Triple Bridge connects the square with the old medieval town.
In this historical part of the city is situated St Nicholas's Cathedral, one of the most important churches in Slovenia.
Also in the old town, but a bit away from the main tourist area, is the St James’s Church which houses beautiful altars.
The seat of the City Municipality of Ljubljana, the Town Hall, stands at major square in the center, close to Ljubljana Cathedral.
The Parliament of Slovenia, another government building, is located in front of the Republic Square, a place with a significant importance for Slovene history.
The University of Ljubljana, the largest and the oldest university in the country, brings together students to whom the city owes much of its youthful character.
A stone throw from the university is one of the most important national, educational and cultural institutions of Slovenia, the National and University Library.
Ljubljana is the cultural center that can be seen at every step, besides many open space exhibitions, there are also many museums, such as:
The International Center of Graphic Arts in Tivoli Park.
The country’s oldest scientific and cultural institution, the National Museum.
The National Gallery, an exhibition hall that hosts the best national art.
The Museum of Modern Art which presents art works from the last century.
It’s also worth a visit the Metelkova City, once a military barrack, now a self-declared autonomous culture place.
The Museum of Contemporary Art, with many present day paintings and sculptures. In the same neighborhood as the Ethnographic Museum which exhibits multinational artifacts.
The Ljubljana Castle, the city’s most striking landmark, is a medieval castle built in the 12th century on the summit of Castle Hill. It is a tourist sight and a picturesque venue for events.
From the castle’s tower stretches a magnificent view of all the city.
A good place to see the town from other perspectives is from the Skyscraper.
On top of the building is a bar with excellent views.

Slovenia 2018 - E3 - Triglav Park & Bled Scenic Viewpoint
After checking out of the hotel I sail across to Bled island on a Pletna Boat and climb 99 stone steps to explore the church and bell tower. That's followed by a drive through Triglav National Park and the abandoned village of Radovna mostly burned down by Nazi soldiers in 1944. Finally I hike into the mountains to get a last look at Lake Bled before darkness falls - I end up at an overlook called Ojstrica which offers some incredible views across the lake.

PTUJ, SLOVENIA - travel shorts
It is much easier to describe Ptuj's location between Slovenske gorice and Haloze and between Dravsko polje and Ptujsko polje than to write a short history of the city. Its history is rich and the city has numerous monuments to prove it. Its history reaches back to the Stone Age, but the city experienced its greatest flowering in the Roman period. The name originates in the times of Emperor Trajan, who granted the settlement city status and named it Colonia Ulpia Traiana Poetovio. In 69 A.D., Emperor Vespasian was elected in Ptuj, and the first written mention of the city of Ptuj is from the same year. Roman Poetovio developed into an important military, commercial, customs, and administrative center. Forty thousand people lived in the Ptuj area in this period, a number never since reached. It was later burned by the Huns and occupied by the Avars and the Slavs. In the period of the Slav prince Pribina, it was incorporated into the Frankish state. Later, it became the property of the Salzburg archdiocese and experienced the Hungarian attacks. The city recovered and when city rights were granted, it was able to build a wall around the city. The first city statutes from 1376 provided the legal regulation of the city and contributed to its economic power. Sadly, this declined under the pressure of Turkish attacks and major fires, floods, and epidemics. Today, this important economic center of the lower Podravje region is a city of fairs, a city of excursions into unspoiled nature, a city with a rich culinary offer, and a city of wine cellars and thermal springs.
