NEUMUNSTER WURZBURG GERMANY
Marienberg Fortress Würzburg Germany
#globepravasi#bavaria#germany
The original castle on the Marienberg, a hill which was first settled in the late Bronze Age, was probably a small fort built early in the 8th century by the Franconian-Thuringian dukes. The circular Marienkapelle is one of the oldest church buildings in South Germany and dates from around 1000. From 1200 an unusually large castle was built, which was extended during the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance. For half a millennium, from around 12 50 to 17 20, the Marienberg was the ruling seat of the Würzburg prince-bishops, who also held the title of Duke of East Franconia.

The Neumünster Collegiate church is a collegiate church in Würzburg, Germany. The church dates back to 1065. In 1060 Adalbero of Würzburg built a church with a nave and aisles and two choirs in Romanesque style.
From 1180 to 1250 the church was renovated and its eastern section was expanded. The Romanesque west choir was demolished, and from 1711 to 1716 Josef Greising built the west façade in Baroque style.
From 1725 the interior was redesigned in the baroque style by the brothers Johann Baptist Zimmermann and Dominikus Zimmermann. In the Second World War, the church was damaged. From 1945 to 1952 the interior was restored.

Würzburg is a city in Germany's Bavaria region. It's known for lavish baroque and rococo architecture, particularly the 18th-century Residenz palace, with ornate rooms, a huge fresco by Venetian artist Tiepolo and an elaborate staircase. Home to numerous wine bars, cellars and wineries, Würzburg is the center of the Franconian wine country, with its distinctive bocksbeutel (bottles with flattened round shapes).
Straddling the Main River, scenic Würzburg is renowned for its art, architecture and delicate wines. The definite highlight is the Residenz, one of Germany's finest baroque buildings, though there's plenty more to see besides. A large student population guarantees a lively scene, and plenty of hip nightlife pulsates through its cobbled streets. The city is also the northern terminus of the Romantic Road, Germany's most popular tourist route.
Founded in the 10th century, Würzburg served as the home of powerful prince-bishops for many centuries. It is renowned for the Residence, regarded as one of the finest palaces in Europe and a high point of Baroque art (UNESCO cultural world heritage). Würzburg is also home to one of the oldest churches in Germany, built in the 8th century on top of a former pagan shrine. One of its most famous structures, Festung Marienberg, is a fortress which now surrounds the church. Würzburg was the center of the kingdom known as Franconia. In the 19th century, Napoleon merged Franconia with Bavaria, by which the city is ruled to this day.
Würzburg experienced heavy demolition during a 20-minute bombing raid in 1945 which destroyed some 80% of its city buildings. Much of the city has since been rebuilt, though not as painstakingly true to its original architecture as some other historic German communities. Anyone eager to visit this town to study its historic architectural structures should be prepared to see its restored buildings placed next to several post-war modernistic houses. Würzburg has been home to a large US military installment since post-World War II reconstruction. As a result, many of the locals are familiar with American customs. However, as of 2006, the military base is scheduled to close which will cause the city to lose most of its American presence. Today Würzburg is a beautiful, historic, and lively city that is often overlooked by foreign visitors.

The market place of Würzburg is a place at the Marienkapelle in the old town with regular markets and festivals / events. It is divided into the Upper Market (east, at the Falkenhaus) and the Lower Market (southwest, with Obeliskbrunnen ). North of the Marienkapelle, only separated by a narrow passage, is the Marienplatz .
From June 2007 to the end of 2008, the lower marketplace was redeveloped for 6.8 million euros. The entrance and exit to the market garage was closed, the corresponding access road closed and the surface newly paved. Also some new seating have been set up.
Despite the simultaneous construction of the Petrini house , the market has grown by about 1,000 square meters due to the redesign. The market square and also are Falkenhaus and built in 2008, Petrini-Haus (Forum) as well as many shops and cafes.

Germany: The City of Würzburg
Würzburg is a city in the region of Franconia, northern Bavaria, Germany. Located on the Main River, it is the capital of the Regierungsbezirk of Lower Franconia.
Interesting sights are:
The Würzburger Residenz
Marienberg Fortress
Käppele
Juliusspital
Falkenhaus
Some of them were the subject of earlier videos
- The Würzburger Residenz is a A UNESCO World Heritage Site. The vast compound near the center of the town was commissioned by two prince-bishops, the brothers Johann Philipp Franz and Friedrich Karl von Schönborn. Several architects, including Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt and Maximilian von Welsch, supervised the construction between 1720 and 1744, but it is mainly associated with the name of Balthasar Neumann, the creator of its famous Baroque staircase. The palace suffered severe damage in the British bombing of March 1945, but has been completely rebuilt. The main attractions are:
* Hofkirche: The church interior is richly decorated with paintings, sculptures and stucco ornaments. The altars were painted by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo.
* Treppenhaus: Here Giovanni Battista Tiepolo created the largest fresco in the world, which adorns the vault over the staircase designed by Balthasar Neumann.
* Kaisersaal: The Imperial Hall, the centerpiece of the palace, testifies to the close relationship between Würzburg and the Holy Roman Empire.
Alas it was not allowed to take pictures from the interior.
- The Alte Mainbrücke (Old Main Bridge) was built 1473–1543 to replace the destroyed Romanesque bridge dated from 1133. In two phases, beginning in 1730, the bridge was adorned with twelve 4.5 meter statues of saints and historically important figures like John of Nepomuk, Mary and Saint Joseph, Charlemagne and Pepin the Short. The bridge was damaged by explosives in the final days of World War II.
- The Rathaus or City Hall of Würzburg differs from those of most Imperial Cities in that it was not a sumptuous edifice purpose-built in Renaissance style. Rather, the motley collection of buildings and wings reflects the fact that after 1400 the city was permanently under the control of the bishop who did not allow a representative new building. The Rathaus consists of parts dating from 1339 (chapel), 1453 (tower with the town's first public clock), 1544 (southwest oriel), 1659/60 (Roter Bau). In 1822 the three-winged structure of the neighbouring Karmeliterkloster (monastery of the Carmelites) was added to the city hall. The Renaissance row on Karmeliterstrasse was built only in 1898.
- The Haus zum Falken on the Marktplatz, next to the Marienkapelle, with its ornate stucco façade, is an achievement of the Würzburg Rococo period. In the past it served as an inn and a public library. Today, it houses the tourist information office.
Fortress Marienberg (Würzburg, Germany)
A ride through Würzburg Fortress Marienberg
