Day 270 of 365 Things To Do In Edmonds, WA - Washington State Ferry
Early Ferry Service - Washington State Ferries came into existence with the state's buyout of Puget Sound Navigation in 1951. Ferry service around Puget Sound has changed tremendously over the course of the last century.
The ferry system was originally intended to provide temporary service until a network of bridges could be built connecting the west and east sides of Puget Sound. In 1959, however, the legislature rejected the plan to build numerous cross sound bridges. At that time, the responsibility for managing the ferry system was shared by the Toll Bridge Authority and the State Highway Commission.
WSF Today
WSF is the largest ferry system in the United States, serving eight counties within Washington and the Province of British Columbia in Canada. Counties served include Pierce, King, Snohomish, Kitsap, Skagit, Island, San Juan, and Jefferson Counties. WSF's existing system has 10 routes and 20 terminals that are served by 28 vessels.

A Dive at Sunrise Beach Park Puget Sound, WA USA
Here is a short video showing highlights of diving in Puget Sound.
Just north of the town of Gig Harbor, WA is a jewel of a county park. This waterfront park is known as Sunrise Beach Park. It is operated by the Metro Parks Dept of Pierce County, WA. The feature that is rich with local marine life is the huge rocky outcropping and wall. This wall starts in about 30ft of water. It extends downward to well past 100 feet. The tides and currents found here are a dual edge sword. While the current brings in an incredible amount of life giving plankton, fish, etc. Divers here must have a very good working knowledge of the currents that wash over the dive site. Only on the times when the current is at a minimum can this dive site be accessed. Otherwise, the diver that does not plan this dive correctly will find themselves in a very nasty situation. Dive safe!
Seattle Kayak Squidding
A few guys from the Tricity Kayak Anglers crew decided to take a roadtrip to the Puget Sound for some squid fishing. We met up with Brad Hole from Kayak Fishing Washington, who showed us the jigging techniques and how to locate the schools. While jigging for squid, I caught and released Chinook, Sand Dabs, Rockfish, and an Irish Lord.

Richmond Beach Saltwater Park - Best Parks in Seattle
Richmond Beach Saltwater Park is one of my favorite parks in Seattle. This park, located in Shoreline, WA, is best known for its views of the Puget Sound and mountains, pirate ship playground, beach access, and seasonal off-leash dog area. You’ll also find that Richmond Beach Park is a great place for a workout or sunset stroll.
You can find more info about Richmond Beach Park on the City of Shoreline website:

48 Hours in Seattle
We’ve traveled through Seattle many times but never really stopped to see the city. Well, it was finally time to see what the city was all about. Seattle is known for being a rainy place and we were actually spared during this trip…with a little drizzle here and there. Leaving Los Angeles and arriving around 2.5 hours later, we finally made it. We stayed at the Hyatt House in the downtown area. I highly recommend this place, as it was close to the Space Needle, monorail, and the waterfront area. To save on visiting attractions there is a City Pass that you can purchase. For $75, it will get you into 5 of Seattle’s attractions. Not bad especially when you add up the costs individually. So, here’s a little bit of Seattle for you!
