Vilamoura is a tourist luxury complex situated in the Algarve (Loulé, Quarteira parish, belonging to this). Marina has a golf academy and five golf courses, a casino, several nightclubs, tennis club, diving club, other leisure facilities, an extensive beach and scores of 4 and 5 star hotels. Begun in the 1960s, Vilamoura has an area of 1600 hectares. The architectural project is developed around the marina, and includes hundreds of houses distributed by residential area and other enterprises devoted almost exclusively to tourism. In Vilamoura area lie the Roman ruins of Cerro da Vila, where you can see a complex of baths and mosaics representing a resident fish. Among the various initiatives that develop in Vilamoura is the International Almond Blossom Cross, International Show Jumping Competition and the PokerStars Solverde Poker Season. The entrepreneur founder of Vilamoura was Cupertino de Miranda. André Jordan was a director between 2000 and 2004. In 1996 the Portuguese Bank Atlantic sold to entrepreneurs André Jordan and White Vasco most of the capital of Lusotur, company owner of Vilamoura. Later, in 2000, was acquired the entire share capital of that company. These entrepreneurs ensured the management of the project between 1996 and January 2005, by a Board of Directors composed of: André Jordan President, White Vasco vice president, Carlos Rocha managing director, Luís Correia da Silva and Gilberto Jordan administrators. In 2005 the company was sold to the Spanish group Prasa. Currently Vilamoura is managed by Lusort, a company belonging to the Spanish group CatalunyaCaixa Inmobiliaria also responsible for managing the Marina, and the Inframoura municipal company, currently chaired by Algarve Fatima Catarina. It is projected for the coming years to build a new marina, next to the current, with various aspects and equipment, comprising residential areas, commercial and tourist luxury.
