Le Mont-Saint-Michel is an island commune in Normandy, France.
It is located about one kilometre off the country's northwestern coast, at the mouth of the Couesnon River near Avranches and is 100 hectares in size.
As of 2009, the island has a population of 44.
The island has held strategic fortifications since ancient times and since the 8th century AD has been the seat of the monastery from which it draws its name.
The structural composition of the town exemplifies the feudal society that constructed it: on top, God, the abbey and monastery; below, the great halls; then stores and housing; and at the bottom, outside the walls, houses for fishermen and farmers.
Now a rocky tidal island, the Mont occupied dry land in prehistoric times.
As sea levels rose, erosion reshaped the coastal landscape, and several outcrops of granite emerged in the bay, having resisted the wear and tear of the ocean better than the surrounding rocks.
Mont Saint-Michel consists of leucogranite, which solidified from an underground intrusion of molten magma about 525 million years ago, during the Cambrian period, as one of the younger parts of the Mancellian granitic batholith.
The Mont has a circumference of about 960 metres and its highest point is 92 metres above sea level.
The tides can vary greatly, at roughly 14 metres between high and low water marks.
Popularly nicknamed St. Michael in peril of the sea by medieval pilgrims making their way across the flats, the mount can still pose dangers for visitors who avoid the causeway and attempt the hazardous walk across the sands from the neighbouring coast.
Polderisation and occasional flooding have created salt marsh meadows that were found to be ideally suited to grazing sheep.
The well-flavoured meat that results from the diet of the sheep in the salt meadow makes salt meadow lamb, a local specialty that may be found on the menus of restaurants that depend on income from the many visitors to the mount.
One of France's most recognizable landmarks, visited by more than 3 million people each year, Mont Saint-Michel and its bay are on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
Over 60 buildings within the commune are protected in France as monuments historiques.

From the moment I saw it from afar until we reached the top I was in awe. An amazing experienced indeed. We decided not to go inside the museum because the line was too long.

Back road to the monastery. As was seen in the rise overlooking the monastery is quite different appearance depending on viewing angle and location, different feeling. The place was climbing up the stairs just want to find. The main character in the movie Stella said the place fled out of the hospital. Is this touching movie geuriwoseo? This observatory is always crowded with people. For people who love embroidered lettering written on the sand when the tide is cleared. Our life is clear again also wrote love Maybe give it another go? Time and space is wide and endless. Watching the ocean view from the Mont Saint-Michel was a neokneokham itself.

Mont Saint Michel, An island in France - Malayalam Travel Vlog
Mont Saint Michel is the second most visited place in France after Eiffel Tower, which is situated in Normandy, North France. 3 million visitors are coming here every year. It is a small city with 44 inhabitants, oh wait! Is it an island?
You read it right. This place becomes an island everyday. Here you can witness the spectacular phenomenon of high tides and low tides. During high tides, this place is covered by sea and during low tides it becomes land again. Some days in every month, it becomes a complete island again because of spring tides. We planned our trip on a spring tide day so that we could see most of Mont St Michel.
You can see the tide timings here. The highlighted in orange are the spring tide days.

11 Most Haunted Locations in France
From grand mausoleums in the middle of paris, to chateau that attract millions of people a year, here the 11 most haunted locations in France
Subscribe to American Eye
11. Chambord
The most well-known and debatably the most amazing chateau in the Loire River Valley is the Château de Chambord. It displays distinct French renaissance architecture and when construction began 1519, it was built specifically to act as the hunting lodge of Francois I. Francois spared no expense in having this one completed, and some believe that Leonardo Da Vinci was even involved in the design. The primary architect was Domenico da Cortona from Italy, who also helped design the Hotel de Ville in Paris. The northwestern facade of this iconic building is quite imposing and it displays nearly perfect symmetry. This could certainly be most impressive building constructed under the impactful rule of Francois I. However later on, the house in turned into an improptu hospital during the franco prussian war. People claim to see the ghosts while taking a tour.
10. The Pantheon Paris
This tourist attraction in the Latin Quarter of Paris contains the crypts of some France’s most notable characters, especially during the French Revolution. Some claim the architecture of this monument is completely flawless! It was originally built as a church but displays Neoclassical architecture, which was inspired b y ancient Roman architecture. This mausoleum houses over 100 remains or prominent. Famous residents include Voltaire, Jean Jacques Rousseau, Victor Hugo, Louis Braille and Marie Curie. For a long period of time, no women were placed here. Until Marcellin Berthelot, was married with his wife Sophie. Another sort of eery thin g about this place is the fact that some the urns here don’t contain ashes, only remains of people’s hearts. Strange but true.
9. Tuileries Garden
This public garden is located between the Louvre Museum and the Place de la Concorde in Paris. It was created in 1564 though didn't open until 1667 due to many mysterious circumstances. And rumour has it that this place is home to one of the spookiest ghosts in all of France, his name is l’homme rouge des tuileries, though many refer to him as the Red Man of the Tuileries. The stories say he was a butcher murdered on the orders of Catherine de Medici for the crime of knowing too much about the private affairs of the crown, his death knell sounded when he stupidly proclaimed to an astrologer that he knew the exact date and time when the queen of France would leave this world. Legend has it that his appearances foreshadow dramatic, often sinister moments in the nation's history, such as right before the palace fire of 1871.
8. Le Mont Saint Michel
This island commune located in Normandy France can be found around half a mile off the country's northwestern coast and rumour has it, is devastatingly haunted by a multitude of unruly, restless spirits. On one of the bloodier days in its history, a tremendous battle from the hundred years' war took place on these surrounding island beaches. It is here that the infamous captain Louis d'Estouteville led his platoon in to slaughter over two thousand Englishman. As the tides rose to cover those sandy shores, the waters were stained with the red blood which covered the cold beach, the ghosts of those soldiers as well as the spirits of many monks who once lived and later died here, and even the famous captain himself are all rumoured to now haunt this creepy island.
7. Dome Des Invalides
In addition to the Pantheon, and Pere Lachaise cemetery, which we mentioned in one of our haunted places to avoid videos, the tomb of the former French Emperor Napoleon is quite impressive. It seems almost too big for this infamously short guy. Located at the Hotel des Invalides, the dome his remains are under was actually originally built as a royal chapel that took nearly 30 years to construct. After the Revolution, the French turned the area into a hospital for injured soldiers. An immense excavation took place underneath after Napoleon’s remains were returned from St. Helena island in 1821. Eight of his greatest battle victories are inscribed in the marble beneath him. His sarcophagus contains allegedly 6 different, caskets and each one is made of different material. This includes ebony, oak, and tin. It’s still a mystery exactly what’s inside the large tomb.
