Trip to Marmora Mine, Ontario - Canada

The Marmoratan or Marmora Mine located in the Town of Marmora (north east of Toronto) in Ontario, Canada used to be an open pit iron ore mine that was owned by the Bethlehem Steel Corporation in New York. The mine was officially opened in 1950 and operated till late 1970. The mine is now abandoned and got filled with rain and underground water and has been classified as a lake.

Driving from Toronto, it takes around 2.5 hrs to reach the mine using ON-401 and the Trans-Canada highway.
