Cushendun, Ballintoy and Torr Head - Causeway Coast - NI - Driving around Northern Ireland #Coast
Game of Thrones movie series has really brought different locations in Northern Ireland under the spotlight, making them much more famous and getting tourists to visit them more often. Not only did those places like the Dark Hedges ( that got famous, but there are even some hotels and pubs which gained more visitors because they happened to be where the ten doors are located.
The main intention of this trip was to find some of the ten doors which appeared in the movie and to do so, we headed to Cushendun, Ballintoy, and Torr Head where we also did other things like climbing the hill with the kids. All these different doors which you might have came across and witnessed in the movie are scattered across Northern Ireland - where the movie is filmed in general and even the Direwolves that appeared in the movie are Irish (
Our trip started at the Clendun Hotel in Cushendun where we started walking in search for any of the doors we came to witness. The first door we succeeded at reaching in Cushendun is located in Mary McBride's Pub; the thing is that, there are lots of those people - like us - who go to these places in search for the doors and to take a couple of pictures then leave, which we believe might still help the pub because there are those who might also decide to sit for some time and have something to drink.
After enjoying this door we have found and after taking all the pictures that we want of it, we decided to complete the journey and go searching for more of these doors. The next stop in this trip was the Torr Head; in the Torr Head we climbed that hill and we managed to get on top - that we even spotted out the car as a small dot standing down - where we managed to see this kind of castle which is destroyed that it is not even safe to get inside the rooms and check what they have, but the view from up there was magnificent with being on the sea and enjoying the good weather from there.
Leaving the Torr Head behind after checking it and getting back down to the car, we went on to complete the journey of finding and exploring the different doors, so we reached Ballintoy where the second door in this trip was found at the Fullerton Inn - the interesting thing is that those places which are homes to these doors tend to place a sign outside in order to let people know that what they are searching for is actually found inside.
While we were going back home, we passed by the Dark Hedges and drove through those trees which are a little bit scary at night ( but which was considered related to the trip due to being a place where some scenes from Game of Thrones were filmed as well.
In this trip, we have crossed two different doors off our list, but since we have made this as some kind of challenge which we want to achieve, there are other doors which we managed to visit before. From those other doors which we have seen, there is the one which is found in the Dark Horse Bar in Belfast Commercial Court ( there is also the door which is located in Percy French restaurant in Newcastle, county Down ( another door we came across was situated in Blakes of the Hollow which is a traditional Irish Victorian pub located in Enniskillen, county Fermanagh ( we also visited the Ballygally Castle Hotel where another door is located ( and we ended these with those two which we managed to reach and discover in this trip.
These places were related to the exploration of the doors in the Game of Thrones movie series, but we have also managed to visit those locations which appeared in the scenes of the movie. We have already mentioned our trip to the Dark Hedges which we truly fell in love with but which we still believe that they are considered a little bit scary at night - especially after knowing more about the legend of those ghosts which come to visit the place :-).
There are other places which we have visited and which are also related to the Game of Thrones movie, such as Cushendun Caves ( Portstewart Strand ( Lough Neagh which was referred to as smoking sea in GOT ( Toome Canal ( Binevenagh Mountain ( Leitrim Lodge ( Larrybane ( and many other destinations which we have been to and which we definitely recommend people and tourists to pay them a visit.

Door 6 - Fullerton Arms, GOT Location in Northern Ireland
When it comes to Northern Ireland and the places which one could visit there then coming to the point where mentioning those locations where Game of Thrones scenes were filmed or even those where the doors are located, is considered beneficial.
We have to mention that there are two different types of GOT locations out there; those which are more of touristic destinations in Northern Ireland and which are more of outdoor areas, and those hotels, restaurants, pubs, and bars in which the 10 doors that appeared throughout the episodes are located - in this video, it is about hitting a destination related to the second type of location.
Door number 6 which focuses on House Targaryen also focuses on Drogon-Daenery's most aggressive and fearsome dragon. This door which is found in the Fullerton Arms Hotel was carved from the fallen trees of the Dark Hedges, where some other scenes from the movie were filmed in as well and which is considered one famous historical destination in Northern Ireland (
The interesting thing about this location - the Fullerton Arms Hotel - is that not only the door will be attracting tourists and visitors to it, but there is also a dining room set and prepared inside the hotel in the world of Game of Thrones, complete with the banners and its own replica iron throne - so you could also reserve your dinner at this place (
Every single door appearing in the movie will be related to specific characters and scenes in the movie, so you should be a fan and one who have seen all the different episodes in order to understand what you are seeing in real - but again, this would be only visited by those who are fans of the movie and have seen it because otherwise they will not be even interested in coming to check it in the real world in the first place.
This is not the only door for us to visit while tracking them all, but we have seen door number 3 in the Percy French Restaurant in Newcastle, county Antrim ( we have seen door number 4 in Blakes of the Hollow traditional Irish Victorian pub that has been open for more than 125 years ( we have checked door number 8 that is located in Mary McBride's Bar ( we checked door number 9 in Ballygally Castle Hotel that is also famous for the haunted room found in it and which is the reason why it is sometimes referred to as the Haunted Hotel ( and we have also seen door number 10 in the Dark Horse Bar in Belfast Commercial Court - a famous place for those willing to visit Belfast - (
The doors which we haven't been to yet and still didn't check are door number 1 which is located in the Cuan in Strangford, door number 2 which is situated in Fiddler's Green in Portaferry, door number 5 which is located in Frank Owens in Limavady, as well as door number 7 which is found in Gracehill House in Stranocum. We are making our plans to complete the journey and reach all these doors to complete the whole set.
Checking the doors might be an interesting thing for those who didn't even watch the movie because they are really pieces of art which one will enjoy looking at but those who have seen the movie will get to understand the shapes and the carvings. On the other hand, it is not important for the people to watch the movie if they are visiting the other locations that appeared in the movie because they also happen to be important when it comes to the tourism of Northern Ireland.
Connolly Cove paid a visit to several Game of Thrones locations in Northern Ireland - since it is almost all filmed there - and even though we will always consider the Dark Hedges our favorite, we still loved all those other places as well. We have been to the Binevenagh Mountain ( we have also visited Toome Canal in Toomebridge, county Antrim ( we have been to the Cushendun Caves which we consider a miracle on its own because it was created from the weather changes ( we visited the location on Lough Neagh where GOT scene was filmed - this is considered the longest lake in Ireland or even Britain - ( we have also been to Portstewart Strand ( as well as the Downhill Beach in Castlerock (
We are caring much about completing the list of GOT locations which we could visit and transfer our experience back to you; have you been to any of these places before?

Carnlough Antrim Fishing Village - Carnlough Harbour - NI
Carnlough and Carnlough Harbour is an area of outstanding beauty nestled in amongst the Glens of Antrim - at the foot of Glencloy -
and the North Channel on the well travelled Coast Road.
Carnlough is actually a beautiful small fishing village that is located in county Antrim, Northern Ireland, and this Carnlough Harbour is part of it, on the shores of Carnlough Bay.
Carnlough Harbour was built by the owners of the quarries west of the village, which were connected to the harbour by means of a mineral tramway network, which include a bridge over each of two parallel streets in the village. Most of the old things that are built in any country out there are renovated and that is exactly the same that happened with Carnlough Harbour; it has been renovated recently and is now used by pleasure boats and small fishing boats.
Carnlough Harbour is now considered the focal point for the whole village, that is why it might be attracting lots of people - especially the local Irish ones - to it because they already now what they are going to see and experience at this place. This area offers many opportunities for both sea angling and fresh water angling.
If you intended to come to Carnlough Harbour by boat before and you are not from the village, you might have heard that it is difficult to find a place because it is usually full of local boats.
Carnlough Harbour is situated at the northern end of Carnlough Bay between Garren Point and Park Head. Visiting the place in general has its own different feeling and it is of course one experience which you will fall in love with for the weather and the calmness of the view; if you are coming from afar, there is also the famous Londonderry Arms Hotel which is just in front of the harbour and which you could stay at.
Being in Carnlough Village itself means that there are different attractions which one could actually see and check in addition to Carnlough Harbour - which we have to say is the most famous there. The options from the places that one could choose, there is the Glenarm Castle, the Red Bay Castle, Cranny Falls, Ardclinis Church, Carnlough Library, St. John the Evangelist, and the Hidden Village of Galboly. People always think that because Carnlough is a small village, it might not have what people could visit and know more about, but it has and might even grab the attention so easily.
In addition to those attractions and destinations which one could head out to in order to check in Carnlough Village, one should also think about the activities or those things which could be done apart from sightseeing. One of the examples which we have include taking the Carnlough Bay boat tours which will provide you with a new experience, or else going to the Glenarm forest and have a walk inside the place and experience it all.
Carnlough is situated in Ballymena and that brings another journey which people could think about - you could jump from one village to the other to check what it has there, but which will definitely depend on the number of days you are taking to enjoy your vacation.
In Ballymena, there are some important places to be mentioned, such as the Cushendun Caves which are situated in Cushendun ( and which also appeared in Game of Thrones movie series - just like Carnlough - and which is one of those which we have been to before.
Carnlough Harbour appeared in Game of Thrones movie series which is filmed in different locations all around Northern Ireland, even some of the 10 doors that appeared in the movie are found in Northern Ireland as well and if we are referring to Ballymena then door number 8 is found in Mary McBride's Bar which is found in Cushendun, Ballymena; so there is always something to explore in every part of Northern Ireland.
The trip we had to visit Carnlough Harbour was an interesting one, we didn't manage to visit any other touristic destinations in Carnlough Village but we loved walking by the water, sitting there just watching the boats, and at the same time enjoying the breeze and the atmosphere of the whole place.
If you are going on a tour regarding the locations that are part of Game of Thrones then visiting the Carnlough Harbour is a must, and if you are generally searching for a new and different location which you might visit in Northern Ireland then this is also an option - but it will definitely depend on your current location and the place you are staying at during your visit.
If you have already been to the Carnlough Harbour before then share with us your experience and tell us about the things you loved the most about the place. If you have never been there before then this is the right time to head to this peaceful place and see it in real and you will not lose if you also headed to some of the attractions there as well.

Game Of Thrones 10th Door - The Dark Horse Bar, Belfast
Game Of Thrones Door S6 Ep9 - The Dark Horse Bar, Belfast Commercial Court, Northern Ireland.
If you decide to book a Northern Ireland vacation, don't forget to add the Game of Thrones Doors tour to your list. Check out the Game of Thrones map and find many filming locations and sets around the country ( To celebrate the filming and release of the HBO Game of Thrones series specially carved doors with scenes from different episodes were designed and created. With each episode a new door was released and this was the final door in Belfast. Pop into The Dark Horse in Commercial Court for a drink, some food and most importantly to get a real Game of Thrones experience.
We have all been thrilled with the Game of Thrones movie series and were even astonished with the locations and decorations which appeared inside. Being lucky enough, these locations where in Northern Ireland and thus lots of tourists now - who also happen to be addicts of Game of Thrones movie - reach Northern Ireland and start asking about where are the filming locations of the movie and whether it is easy to reach them and see the whole thing in reality or not.
Even though there are other countries taking part in the filming of Game of Thrones, Northern Ireland will also stand at the top because almost all the locations where in it. The main head quarters for the production is at the Paint Hall studio in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where most of the interior sets are located and that comes in addition to most of the on-shooting locations which also took place in Belfast city, such as in the Black Castle. Since most of the scenes in the movie are taken in Belfast then it means that most of the scenes are also taken in county Antrim and county Down - since Northern Ireland is divided into six counties - but there are also those taken in county Derry and county Armagh.
In the Game of Thrones movie series, there were several doors taking place during the scenes and these doors happen to be in Northern Ireland and also managed to attract several tourists to them. These doors which mostly appeared in season 9 are scattered among several cafes, pubs, and inns in Northern Ireland which are now displayed for the visitors to check them. Each one of these several doors is usually found near an iconic filming location, so always know that whenever you come across a specific door, you are in the territory of Game of Thrones movie.
The first door of these is found in the Cuan guest inn in Strangford, the second is in Fiddler's Green Bar and B&B in Portaferry, the third door is found in Percy French Restaurant in the Slieve Donard Hotel in Newcastle, the fourth door of Game of Thrones is found in Blakes of the Hollow Pub in Enniskillen, the fifith door is in Frank's (Owens) Bar in Limavady, the sixth door is in the Fullerton Arms in Ballintoy, the seventh door is in Gracehill House near Ballymoney, the eight door is in Mary McBrides Bar in Cushendun, the ninth door is found in Ballygally Castle Hotel, the tenth and last door which is the one we have visited to bring this video out to you is in the Dark House Belfast, County Antrim.
The way these wooden doors are carved is the reason why people who know that they are found in real places and displayed for the public always consider visiting these places whenever they are in the same country - and there are even those who are crazy about the movie that they decided to visit Northern Ireland for the main purpose of checking the locations where anything related to the movie is found.
A lot of those who visit the Dark Horse Bar only do that in order to check the door number 10 which took a huge part of the Game of Thrones movie series and even though this might be considered not so good for a cafe or restaurant but those working there are always helpful and will even take you straight to the door while at the same time being nice to take pictures of you if you asked any of them to.
The Dark Horse Bar in Belfast is a good place to visit and try if you will be already checking one of the ten doors found in Northern Ireland, so you could see the door and at the same time enjoy having lunch or dinner by sitting on a view by that door.
It is not just about the doors but since you are in Northern Ireland, you could still get the chance to see more of the locations where the film was taken ( and get introduced to the doors which we have managed to visit the locations that carry some of them (
If you have been to any of the locations related to the Game of Thrones movie in Northern Ireland then share your experience along with us, if not then watch our channel.
