C17 967 - The Mary Valley Rattler
The Valley Rattler Operates most weekends.

Old Gympie Station and Mary Valley Rattler.
The Mary Valley Heritage Railway started operating from this station in 1998 and despite having been closed in 2013, reopened in October 2018 as Mary Valley Rattler. Among its current fleet are two C17 class steam locomotives. The loco featured in this video is the Brown Bomber, No. 974. The other is Spirit of the Mary Valley, No. 967, which was recently overhauled and is now back operating.
My next video will feature some footage aboard this train and will also include some photos from my second visit when I rode behind No. 967.
I can highly recommend this heritage railway if you are in Queensland. Its only a couple hours drive north of Brisbane. Check their website for times and fare costs.

C17 974 - The Mary Valley Rattler - 2/02/2019
On Saturday 2nd February 2019, the Mary Valley Rattler operated two return journeys into the scenic Mary Valley using QR Heritage steam locomotive C17 974, on loan to the railway while resident steam locomotive C17 967 is being restored to operating condition.
Located in Gympie, 170km north of Brisbane, the Mary Valley Rattler runs trains 3 days a week through the scenic Mary Valley to the small town of Amamoor, 23km to the south and currently the terminus of the line. Upon arrival at Amamoor, passengers can view the steam locomotive turn around on the turntable or visit some of the local stalls setup in the station grounds before reboarding the train for the return journey to Gympie via the small town of Dagun for some wine and cheese tasting.
This video is a compilation of videos made to look like one complete return journey taken at numerous locations along the line.
Double Steam Day - Welcome back C17 967 - Mary Valley Rattler
On Saturday 31st August 2019, the Mary Valley Rattler in Gympie hosted a Double Steam Day event to officially welcome back steam locomotive C17 967 into passenger train service, following a 2 year rebuild of the locomotive.
The locomotive now named Spirit of the Mary Valley took guests and special dignitries for a 3 hour return journey into the Mary Valley to the small town of Amamoor, where entertainment was provided for all visitors. C17 974 also took part in the celebration, running a small train out to Amamoor ahead of C17 967's train and a side by side photo opportunity took place prior to both trains making their respective return journeys to Gympie.
An official plaque ceremony is to be held in the near future to display C17 967's new identity.
Mary Valley Rattler - Gympie, Qld.mp4
The Mary Valley Rattler as it is known is officially the Mary Valley Heritage Railway or MVHR. Based at Gympie about 100 miles north of Brisbane, Queensland the Rattler runs out to Imbil on the old branch line. It is also subject of the annual Race the Rattler event where humans challenge the train - no the train does not always win.
We start off with the train at Imbil and then a view from an old signal post looking back across the bridge as the train departs for the return trip to Gympie and end with dropping the fire and stabling the loco.

Mary Valley Rattler Steam Train
The Mary Valley Rattler train runs from Gympie to Imbil and return, in south east Queensland, Australia. The 3'6 gauge train comprises preserved ex Queensland Government Railways stock hauled by exQGR C 17 class 4-8-0 loco number 802 built in 1927. We see the train leaving Kandanga on the outward journey, arrival, the loco on the turntable, and departure from Imbil, crossing the bridge at Kandanga on the return journey, and arrival at Gympie.

Mary Valley Rattler
Back in 2000 I chased the Mary Valley Rattler south to Imbil and return to Gympie. C17 number 45 doing the honours. Ah, but I do luv that era from my childhood, rattling around the Brissy suburbs in wooden Evans cars with puffer billies up front.
