Anastasia's Cottage - Marysville (Before the Bushfire)
Anastasia's cottage was a delightful B&B in Marysville. This footage was taken shortly after we arrived for our short stay, when we were greeted with a dozens of beautiful parrots, kookaburras and cockatoos. You can see a glimpse of the gardens in the background. Sadly, this cottage, like most houses in the town, was destroyed in the 2009 bushfires and many of the residents in this tightknit community lost their lives.

Marysville - Before the Bushfire
In October 2008 my wife and I stayed at Marysville for a couple of days. We thought it was one of the most beautiful little towns we had seen on our driving holiday from Queensland. Apologies for the poor quality - this was taken with my Blackberry.
It is so sad that this town has been destroyed by the bushfires and our heartfelt condolences go to the family and friends of those who perished or those who have lost their homes and livliehoods. Please support the victims by donating to the Australian Red Cross (
Marysville - We Wish You Were Here
The building was badly damaged during the Black Saturday bushfires and we replaced the roof.
We tried to set up and start the business again as quickly as possible with salvaged equipment - we wanted to show people that we were still here and ready to trade.
Initially we started back with outside events and festivals operating out of a marquee.
With events planned for the town of Marysville we set up a coffee stall on the patio outside. A gazebo was also used for Anzac Day in the snow.
We set up from Queen's Birthday in a marquee across the road for four months and in
October 2009 we moved back into the restored building.
Marysville now is developing and growing with new businesses opening up and new buildings are being constructed. It is an ongoing story with Marysville reforming and taking shape again.
People are surprised when they visit Marysville now ...they didn't expect it to be so green and so beautiful.
It is turning into a beautiful town again and with the regrowth the hills and trees are so green again. The gardens and parks are refreshed and growing again with all of the rain.
Everything has taken off in the past year particularly the main street with the new buildings. The new hotel and convention centre will provide more opportunity when it opens in 2014.
People are also moving to Marysville. Initially they wanted to see how Marysville and the area developed before returning. People are now returning and rebuilding.
Those with holiday homes or established weekenders prior to the fires are now rebuilding.
More and more people are coming up and settling in the area.
