Masca is a small mountain village on the island of Tenerife. The village is home to around 90 inhabitants. The village lies at an altitude of 650 m in the Macizo de Teno mountains, which extend up to the northwesternmost point of Tenerife.
Forests including cypresses and palm trees abound. The village lies at the head of the Masca Gorge. The trail from the village down the gorge to the beach on the Atlantic Ocean is a popular, though strenuous, hiking route, which takes about 3 hours each way.
Masca Gorge is a narrow valley in the north-west of the island of Tenerife. Masca Gorge is situated within the Teno Massif. Masca Gorge is a popular tourist destination due to its dramatic scenery and unique geology. An eight-kilometre long walking trail begins at Masca village and continues for the length of the gorge to finish at Masca beach ( Playa de Masca ), approximately ten kilometres from the north-west tip of Tenerife.
Masca Gorge is found within the Teno Massif, a Miocene-age volcanic formation composed of basaltic lava flows. Much of the gorge itself is formed by steeply-dipping volcanic flows. These flows are generally less than a metre thick and mostly basaltic with scoriaceous inclusions.

Masca is a mountain village in the northwest of the Canary Island of Tenerife. It had 2011 105 residents in 80 houses. The in Teno mountains 650-800 m above sea level. d. M. situated town was to be achieved by the early 1960s, only a dirt road from Santiago del Teide. Meanwhile combines a narrow winding mountain road Masca with Buena Vista and Santiago del Teide. The center of the village is the little plaza at the church. Set in a volcanic crater Masca consists of several districts, spread across different slopes. Wherever it is possible terraced fields were created. By the end of the 20th century, the best onions, potatoes and garlic to the best of Tenerife from Masca came. The Yame fruit, palm juice, citrus and goat cheese were specialties.
Particularly striking is the construction of the houses in Masca, which have been built on two levels on the mountain slopes. There are several rooms in a house, so they are not internally linked, but always have a separate entrance from the outside. By a forest fire on 31 July to 3 August 2007, four homes were destroyed in Masca and a large part of the vegetation areas affected. The fire moved from towards the mountain in the village and had to be removed by helicopter.
Masca is the starting point for one of the most popular and famous hiking on Tenerife. It begins in the lower center and leads through the ravine to the sea. This brings many tourists in the place. Although these are overwhelmingly day visitors, for the place is just a starting point, he has thereby but changed markedly: Was there in 1986 was only a bar for the locals and only one restaurant for tourists in the old school, one of the oldest buildings Masca, one has eleven catering establishments today.
Maska can be found deep ravines and cliffs that end in the Atlantic Ocean between the vegetation and curved roads. It has the reputation of being a hideout for pirates. Witch stands out for its architecture traditional, although most of its buildings have no great antiquity. In a large fire that occurred in the forest north of the island in July of 2007 the small town was past the flames and many of the buildings that were destroyed were in addition to its vegetation surroundings.
Masca is a 80 inhabitants village in Tenerife. Mascan region is known for its rugged and lush scenery. Mascassa grow date palms. MASCA leaves hikers a popular route to the sea. Masca is located in the Teno National Park. Masca - a small, picturesque village located in the municipality of Buenavista del Norte on the island of Tenerife. The village is situated at an altitude of 600 m above sea level in the Teno massif and gives rise to the ravine of the same name, which runs to the beach, set amongst the cliffs of Los Gigantes. In the 60s of last century, it could be reached to visit her on a rented donkey. Increased tourist traffic began in the 70s after the construction of the road from the Santiago del Teide. The village has a few Canarian architecture.
Similarly Masca Gorge is a place of frequent trekking and hiking with its unique flora and fauna is at the forefront of the busiest routes in Tenerife.
Masca is a small mountain village located in Tenerife's northwest corner. The village was built by the Guanches - Tenerife's aborigines. They lived completely out of touch with the rest of the island very long time. The village is built in a canyon with 600 meter high rock walls. In 1496 took the conquistadors valley and killed the people who lived there.
Today there are 120 residents remained in the old white stone houses with terracotta roofs. There will be lots of tourists and hikers Masca every day, it is said that it is a paradise or a mecca for walkers with its pretty views and prospects. The village is built around a church located on a palm-lined square. There is also a museum that displays exhibits of their simple but smart objects used in the remote village to make life easier.
There are a lot of nature and vegetation in the village such as cactus, bougainvillea, aloe, orange, lemon and grapefruit.

THE MASCA WALK, AMAZING HIKING IN TENERIFE, SPAIN
Royal Path. From Santiago del Teide, we will start walking through the old royal path, we will be surrounded by unique nature and we will have a magnificent view of Teide.
On the second part, we will walk between cultivated terraces, where you can see tropical fruits, such as bananas, mango and papaya. We will also see animals for example goats and ostriches!
At the end of our hike, we have an hour on board a boat to enjoy the sea and the view of the cliffs of Los Gigantes.

INTERESTING and DIFFICULT Drive To and From Masca, Tenerife - 15 June 2018
This is not my usual review, but I find the driving to Masca an exciting experience and someone might find it useful.
We decided to go to Masca quite early in the morning and left Costa Adeje at around 9 am. The drive, with some stops for beautiful views, takes approximately 1 hour (Google Maps estimates are extremely accurate), so we were on schedule to be at the Masca at around 10 am.
I believe it was a great decision to go earlier because the road was pretty empty and there was still a lot of free parking at Masca. And in general not that many tourists, which is always a plus. We had almost the whole place just for ourselves.
Views on the way there and at Masca are stunning, and it is definitely the must place to visit in Tenerife.
We spent around four hours there, and on the way back the parking lot was already almost full, and the Jeep Safari tourist groups were on the way down which usually make the place more crowded.
Considering that the middle of the June is not the hottest season in Tenerife, you really may want to come earlier to enjoy stress-free Masca and the drive there (and from).
The road is very narrow, and even if I consider myself a good driver, I was pleased that we didn’t meet that many cars (and buses) on the way up.
Enjoy the video. I find watching it quite relaxing.

Places to see in ( Canary Islands - Spain ) Masca Valley
Masca valley Tenerife is a spectacular area in the western part of Tenerife, Canary islands. It is named after a tiny Masca village which is at around 600 meters above the sea level. This is a popular touristic spot and many people take part in Masca walk, a 4.5 kilometers descent through Masca gorge, from the village to the sea.
The majority of visitors perform the Masca walk in one direction only, by descending to the sea and then taking a boat to Los Gigantes. In May 2015, the boat ticket was 8 Euro. You may make payment online. When you get out of the gorge and continue walking toward the sea, first what you will see are two ‘offices’ waiting for you at each side of the path. These are just two small table desks and two people from two agencies who take care about boat-taxi. So you will check your registration there and receive the ticket. If you still have enough time before the boat comes, you will have a chance to enjoy the beautiful beach with black volcanic sand and perfect water of the Atlantic ocean.
You may do it the other way around, by boat from Los Gigantes to the beginning of the Masca valley and then climb up through the gorge to Masca village. For this, you may arrange a taxi to wait for you at the upper end of the route.
The descent is not easy, but it is much harder if you decide to do the Masca walk in both directions. This is 600 meters altitude difference. As for the timing in any of the two variants, well, it depends on your physical conditions; you may think about anything between 5 and 7 hours.
The landscape is volcanic, vertical cliffs around at many places, sometimes hundreds of meters high. At one point you will see a great stone arch above you, and you will have short passages through at least one natural rock tunnel. You will be passing water streams a few times, so the path may be slippery at such places, and in the case of rain in general.

???? Masca Valley, Road to Masca, Amazing Hike - Masca Barranco - Tenerife
Masca Barranco closed.
The straw which broke the camel’s back was a group of walkers who, despite an orange level weather alert for heavy rain and strong winds, still decided to tackle the Masca Barranco.
Reaching Masca Bay they found the jetty damaged and no boats waiting to take them back to the safety of civilisation. There was also a weather alert for wild seas which kept the water taxis in harbour. They were lucky a goatherd was seeing out the storm in the area as they would have attempted to walk back up the ravine, possibly resulting in a more tragic end to this tale. The goatherd advised them to stay put, leading the stranded hikers to a cave where he knew they’d be safe, sharing some of his food and water.
Rescue copter, Masca Barranco, Tenerife
The following day the emergency services were able to rescue the walkers from Masca Beach. Later that day the goatherd spotted more hikers in the ravine.
Within the following week the authorities announced the closure of Masca Barranco, prohibiting members of the public from entering it until measures were put in place to make it safer.
It’s easy to blame this group of walkers for the closure of the ravine. There’s no arguing their actions were irresponsible and not something I’d expect from experienced hikers. But we regularly maintain even experienced walkers can underestimate the terrain and weather conditions on Tenerife and other Canary Islands. But the fact is the walkers in question were only the latest in a long, long line of people who are ultimately responsible for the closure of the Masca Barranco.

360 tourview had a wonderful day in Masca Valle, Buenavista Norte and we made a beautiful pano to show everyone this incredible place in Tenerife !
If there is one thing that Masca Valley has going for it, it is the stunning views. From the top of the valley down, towards the village and from there along the valley floor towards the sea are some stunning views that you would never associate with Tenerife if you hadn`t seen them with your own eyes.
Masca, a former pirate village, is a small village in the bottom of the valley, which until recent times was only accessible on foot or by donkey. Now access is much improved and the steep drive down into the valley is well worthwhile with a series of hairpin bends and wonderful scenery guiding you through this lovely area.
Masca Valley in Tenerife simply takes your breath with its stunning views and incredible peaceful and charging energy !
