South Africa turns to solar as drought erodes hydro generation
As the worst drought in decades continues to ravage Southern Africa, one of the other major issues facing citizens is the reduced amount of hydro electricity available. Those countries in the region that are heavily reliant on hydropower need to find alternatives to plug the shortfall, and fast. One solution to this problem is the massive nuclear reactor at the center of our solar system. As Angelo Coppola reports, one nominee of the Africa Innovation Foundation Awards, is tapping into solar power to manage electricity demand.
