PICNIC IN WINTER?? | MASONS FALLS, KINGLAKE VIC
So, we wanted to do outside barbeque and picnic even though it is already winter here in Melbourne.
We went to Masons Falls in Kinglake West Victoria with our friends. It is just a litrle more than one hour drive from Melbourne CBD. The place was good and will give you that Baguio Philippines feels. Lot of trees and really relaxing. Though it is expected to be very cold during winter.
This is the first time for Toby to go to a picnic/bbq. I was also excited but going there it was raining and foggy. Good thing is the sky cleared up around 2pm just in time for a short walk going to Masons Falls lookout.
We have enjoyed this activity and probably it will be nice to come back during summer.
Few more things.
-No entrance fee to the park
-they offer a lot of Free barbeque facilities
-lots of table and chair and there's two covered area that can accomodate big groups
-there is available toilet
-there is water supply (though I haven't check if it's drinkable)
-the walk to Masons Falls is about 10 mins
-there is other walks you can do
-there is no rubbish bin so ensure to bring your rubbish with you

On this sunny Sunday morning we decided to take a short drive from where we live in the outer suburbs of Melbourne up to Kinglake, which is a beautiful town just north-east of the city. Kinglake is surrounded by a national park and within it is Masons Falls, a really nice waterfall and walking track. The falls are not thunderous, especially not during the height of summer, but they are still lovely to see and it is so nice being out in the tranquil bush setting. The area used to be used for logging and there are still remnants left behind, plus there is also some more significant recent history as it was affected by the Black Saturday bushfires in 2009.

MELBOURNE | WATERFALL AND NATURAL LIFE

Kinglake / murrindindi off road
The Kinglake National Park is a national park in Central Victoria, Australia. The 23,210-hectare (57,400-acre) national park is situated 50 kilometres (31 mi) northeast of Melbourne and includes tracks (some with wheelchair access), and camping facilities.[3]
The national park includes Masons Falls, a picnic area with falls and natural flora. Layered sediment forms the valley, containing fossils from when the area was once covered by the sea. Natural fauna includes wallaby, kangaroo, wombat, possum and echidna. It also includes varieties of birds including cockatoos (sulphur-crested, black and red-headed), king parrots, the rosella and the lyrebird.
Prior to the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires, the park was renowned for being home to the tallest tree in Victoria. The specimen of Eucalyptus regnans (mountain ash) stood 91.6 metres (301 ft) tall in 2002 and was suspected to have originated after the 1851 Black Thursday bushfires. It was located in the Wallaby Creek closed catchment area in the north-west regions of the park.
Kinglake National Park Adventure, Melbourne Australia
This video captures our day, it started at 5:30 AM a drive through the bush around Mt Dandenong with a coffee stop in Yarra Glen at around 6, as dawn became more prominent.
From there we made our way up through Kinglake National Park, stopping at a look out as it got light before adventuring off into the more rural bush of the National Park; ft. The Biggest Paddock In The World St Andrews, Melbourne Australia.
