Paul O'Donnell National Cemetery Bourne MA
Farewell to my Uncle Paul O'Donnell.
After the funeral in Falmouth, the burial ceremonies took place at the National Cemetery in Bourne MA during a wicked Nor'easter. The family was rushed out of the pavilion because there was another ceremony scheduled. They didn't even allow the family to wait for the priest to do the final prayers.
When the torrential rains hinted at subsiding, I left Falmouth and came back to the cemetery to finish playing my humble, novice version of Amazing Grace for him. (Uncle Paul played Southie is My Hometown at my mother's graveside.)
The thermometer said 55 degrees but I had ice pelting my fiddle. I played at a faster tempo than I would have because I literally was being blown away by the ferocious winds.
Thanks for the love and the laughs, Uncle Paul.

Arlington National Cemetery - Summer 2016
A proud 2016 Summer look at Arlington National Cemetery ... that has evolved from a place of necessity to a national shrine to those who have honorably served our Nation during times of war, including every military conflict in American history, and times of peace. The cemetery is the final resting place for more than 400,000 active duty service members, veterans and their families. ‘Service to country’ is the common thread that binds all who are honored and remembered here.
This solemn national shrine is an active cemetery conducting between 27 and 30 funerals each week day ... and is a living memorial to our Nation's heroes ... that is a must experience when visiting Washington, D.C.

Memorial Day 2014
National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona
On Memorial Day every grave has a small American flag placed upon it. That is thousands and thousands of flags making a sea of
Red, White, and Blue.
The National Memorial Cemetery is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, but it is never closed. The entrance is marked by high walls on either side, but no gates. Visitors — there are as many as 25,000 a year — may come and go as they please, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
A state law passed in 1976, by then Governor Raul Hector Castro, authorized the creation of a large veteran's cemetery. The location in Phoenix was chosen and the cemetery was dedicated on December 9, 1978. The first interment took place the following spring. It was officially transferred to the control of the Department of Veterans Affairs and became a National Cemetery in 1989. In 1999, over 13 million dollars was spent on improving the facilities and developing the area with the intent of serving the burial needs of veterans until the year 2030.

Memorial Day 2013 at the National Cemetery
Sunday, we attended the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne Memorial Day Services. Despite being mostly rainy and overcast, the weather held off, and the sun even came out for a short while as veterans, families and friends roamed the grounds paying respect to those who gave their life for their country. We used the new computers in the visitors center to locate family and friends buried on the grounds.
Guest speaker Deputy Chief Steven Xiarhos, of the Yarmouth Police Department, spoke of the solemn remembrances of the day.
