New Zealand: Purakaunui Falls
The Purakaunui Falls are a cascading multi-tiered waterfall on the Purakaunui River, located in the Catlins in the southern South Island of New Zealand.
A highly distinctive cataract, it is an iconic image for southeastern New Zealand, and was featured on a New Zealand postage stamp in 1976.
The falls are located 17 km (11 mi) to the southwest of the small town of Owaka and five kilometres (3 miles) from the river's outflow into the Pacific Ocean. They can be reached via a short, well-signposted bush walk from a gravel side-road off the main Owaka-Invercargill road.
The falls are in an isolated area surrounded by native bush in a scenic reserve of 5 km² (2 sq mi), and fall 20 m (66 ft) in three tiers.
There have been many pictures taken of the Purakaunui Falls over the years and they are now considered to be the most photographed set of falls on the South and North Islands of New Zealand.

The Catlins New Zealand
Video not available in Germany. Catlins (sometimes referred to as The Catlins Coast) comprises an area in the southeastern corner of the South Island of New Zealand. The area lies between Balclutha and Invercargill, straddling the boundary between the Otago and Southland regions. The Catlins, a rugged, sparsely populated area, features a scenic coastal landscape and dense temperate rainforest, both of which harbour many endangered species of birds. Its exposed location leads to its frequently wild weather and heavy ocean swells, which are an attraction to big-wave surfers. The Catlins economy relies heavily on dairy farming and fishing. The region's early whaling and forestry industries have long since died away, along with the coastal shipping that led to several tragic shipwrecks. Only some 1,200 people now live in the area, many of them in the settlement of Owaka. Music in this video is Edge Hill from Groove Armada.

At the Edge of the World Lies The Catlins
The Catlins, New Zealand is a major highlight of the Southern Scenic Route. Situated off the beaten track, the Catlins encompasses the area between Kaka Point and Fortrose. You will journey through rural heartland and podocarp forests, past rugged coastlines, hidden lakes and stunning waterfalls. The natural landscapes are enthralling and the wildlife is extraordinary. Catlins - Part 4
Continuation of my 13/10/08 ride.
Sorry, this last part took me a while to get up.
I have pictures taken from the walk at the end where I stopped, but I have to remember where I put my camera.
Road was a small section of the southern scenic route traveling towards Balclutha from Invercargill, started filming just after turning away from Curio bay, stopped filming at the Matai falls track. (After that I had a clumsy person knocking battery out of holder problem).
More information on the route at for those who are interested.
Hope you enjoy/enjoyed
