Small bento breakfast again from Family Mart – nothing fancy to show y’all. At 8 a.m. or so I felt like I was going to faint because I couldn’t hold still my disoriented, shaking, woozy feeling head. Turns out I was riding out an earthquake in this building. My curtains were shaking. So I said, AHA, felt better and rode out the rest of the shaking, watching the view from my 10th floor window. I wonder if being higher up like the 10th floor makes me feel the motion more? Hmmmmm.
I checked out of the Metropolitan hotel and jumped on to the shinkansen. Got off at Yonezawa, dumped my junks off at the same Best Western Japonais Hotel and then went BURA-BURA. Walked a long ways all the way through another part of town I haven’t explored before. I noticed this gas station because someone asked about gas prices and said that Hawaii’s prices just dropped to about $2.25 per gallon. So, I went take a picture of that station. The regular was listed at 128-yen per liter. OK, you professors on this list. Since one gallon is 3.78541 liters, I think that price means roughly $4.75 at a rate of 102-yen per dollar. Is my calculations OK? Kekekekeke Wow, Hawaii’s gas less than ½ of Yonezawa’s.
OK, walked a little bit more and I got to the Yonezawa castle ruins park, more formerly known as the Matsugasaki Park. First thing I encountered was the big restaurant specializing in their special beef at nice prices. Then I went past some smaller kiosks serving various snacks, noodles and drinks. I ignored those at first and started BURA-BURA. Ran into a statue of (I think) Uesugi Ryozan. He supposedly is the 9th daimyo of Yonezawa – google it and get the details. Then I went to the main spot, the Uesugi Shrine which is built on the site of the former castle. I skipped all the museums since you can google them and find out a lot, more than I can remember. Then I went for a refreshment, saw a sign for mini ramen. So I went in this small shop and ordered the mini. WOW, was so ONO! It is something like our saimin in Hawaii. The small ramen alongside my draft beer was filling for me.
Then I started back toward my hotel, walking down a different street. Got back, and waited for the 3 p.m. check in. Got my room and then I asked the front desk about 100-yen shops since someone commented about them. She said yep, get one right around the corner! Wow, surprise so I went go look. They had a small DAISO. Not bad. The sign said no photos, so I just walked around the store, didn’t find anything I wanted, and went back to the hotel.
