Skiing in Zermatt Switzerland 2019
Our first time visiting Zermatt and it was A-MAY-ZING! The flight was about 7.5 hours and flying Swiss Airline was great. Best part about long flights, meals are included. We arrived at Zurich Airport and from there we had to take the train to Visp, then another train to Zermatt. The train ride was smooth and LONG, but spectacular views of mountain scenery!
Restaurant Blatten is considered the #2 restaurant in Zermatt (per trip advisor), but in our opinion it's#1. You can ski or hike to get there, we decided to hike. The hike can take about 30-45 mins due to all the beautiful, different angles of Zermatt. The sun was shining and the view of the Matterhorn was breathtaking! Hearing the water running down the river was relaxing and once we reached the top, we were ready to eat. The rosti with bratwurst and onion sauce was amazing, the lamb chops with garlic herb served with rosti & vegatables.......absolutely delicious! After a nice lunch, we walked right outside to lounge chairs on the sow to view the Matterhorn much closer, and watched the skiers. If you ever travel to Zermatt visit Restaurant Blatten, you won't be disappointed.
After walking back down we had so much energy, we decided to go shopping and find a place for some drinks to cool down. We had to stop at Stefanie's Creperie for a snack and then just a few steps away was Hotel Zermatterhof. The hotel has a patio right in the front called Lusi, that receives plenty of sunlight, offering amazing cocktails and beer. After Lusi we saw other bars that are right next to each other, but Hexen Bar caught out attention. We stopped in there and tried some Absinthe!
Chez Max Julen was one our favorite restaurants for dinner. Watching the chef cook our meal right there and then plate it in front of us was an awesome experience. The food was delicious! We couldn't end the night without experiencing some of the nightlife in Zermatt. We noticed Hotel Post had a live band bar called PINK! The live band was @firekind.band and the music was GREAT!
The main reason for visiting Zermatt, was to ski the Alps. We rented our gear from Bayard Zermatt AG and then took a bus to the Sunnegga station. It's only a 10 minute ride on the train from the station to the mountain where we were skiing. Seeing the mountains from that altitude, speechless! Once we clicked our boots into our skis, we enjoyed Sunnegga slopes, powdered snow!

What is a yellow run?
The yellow runs here in Zermatt are marked off piste, they are patrolled for avalanche safety but do not get groomed so end up bumpy and choppy and powdery after it snows. Phoebe, Jamie & Alex from the Summit team check a few out.
