Property ID: PM2JYM
MLS ID: 1288885
With a location worthy of its design, 121 Ninth Street, sits atop the nationally prestigious Pittsburgh Creative and Performing Arts School.
The 2,900 square foot penthouse, (Unit #2) was designed in 2006 by supporters of the arts community who went on a worldwide search for the most unusual and one-of-a-kind materials to showcase in the multi-level space. Access to the unit is gained from street level through a private entrance or the private underground garage with three parking spaces. Both lead to the private elevator.
Inside, multi-level panoramic views of the Allegheny River down to the Point, parts of Downtown, PNC Park and the North Shore await. Evening sunsets are an ever-changing panorama. The first-level features an open floor plan with walls painted in subtle shades of gold, bronze and green with a Venetian plaster effect. The color palette is echoed in other spaces including the kitchen cabinetry, Brazilian marble counters and a custom Murano glass chandelier in the dining area. The large, contiguous space measures 35 by 32 and sits atop flooring of 24 inch slate tiles with warm undertones. The kitchen appliance package features, Jenn-Air, Fisher & Paykel and Miele.

A custom art piece by Peter Michael Lambert of Red Star Ironworks that began its life in the Mattress Factory's international exhibit Gestures was reworked and expanded to become a floating staircase. French Limestone treads are offset and welcome the homeowner to the second floor suite.
There, the open floor plan features another wall of windows and a 24 by 30 master suite. Long, glass walls provide unobstructed views of the city. Nearby, a custom closet and office round out the private space while diagonally, an open master bath has 400 square feet of space including a multi-person shower. Murals by Thommy Conroy entitled Leda and the Swanembellish the walks and the entire floor features radiant floor heat.
Airspace above the lower rooftops are built into the deed so the view will never be obstructed. Qualified buyers will be welcomed by appointment.

Site-Specific: A History of the Mattress Factory
Directed by David Bernabo
Through a mix of stories and anecdotes, archival installation footage, and interviews with artists and razor-sharp co-directors Barbara Luderowski and Michael Olijnyk, Site-Specific: A History of the Mattress Factory presents an in-depth look at one of the first site-specific museums in the United States.
Founded in 1977 in Pittsburgh, PA, the Mattress Factory is a contemporary art museum and experimental lab featuring site-specific installations created by artists in residence from around the world. Starting as a quirky, anything goes food co-op and artist studio space, the museum created a program of artist residencies in 1982 to focus on site-specific installation art and they never looked back.
The film parallels the installation of the museum’s 40th anniversary exhibition with an in-depth, story-driven journey through the museum’s long history of exhibiting site-specific art. Through interviews with artists such as Ann Hamilton, Sarah Oppenheimer, Vanessa German, Dennis Maher, Kevin Clancy, and David Pohl, the film provides an intimate, sometimes humorous, look at the indirect path a museum takes as it creates its identity.
By mining the museum’s extensive tape and video archive, director David Bernabo was able to unearth rare archival installation footage of James Turrell, Yayoi Kusama, Meg Webster, David Ellis, as well as performance art by Chrome and others. Detailed discussions provide the history and context for John Cage’s changing installation, Allan Wexler’s Bed Sitting Rooms for an Artist in Residence, and Dennis Maher’s three-story installation “A Second Home,” among other works.

How to have a funky weekend in Pittsburgh
Looking for a fun weekend trip? This video shows why you should consider Pittsburgh. As you’ll see, so many spots here will blow away what people might expect of this city.
Take Randyland, for example, where you can reimagine what a neighborhood looks like through a collection of found art. Then there’s the contemporary art at the Mattress Factory. Or how about the Three Rivers Heritage Trail, a paddle trail along the Allegheny River you can access right from downtown? There are so many surprising places, like the feminist makerspace, Prototype, or Church Brew Works, a beautiful church fittingly repurposed as a brewery.
If you want a fun weekend, don’t be afraid to hit up Pittsburgh. Just make sure to bring your A game when it’s time to bowl.

This was filmed at the end of august 2006 in Pittsburgh just outside the Andy Warhol Museum.
You will see the Andy Warhol Bridge, also known as the Seventh Street Bridge, spanning the Allegheny River in Downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and it's the only bridge in the United States named for a visual artist.
The bridge was renamed for Warhol on March 18, 2005, as part of the tenth anniversary celebration for the Andy Warhol Museum. The museum is nearby at 117 Sandusky Street, a street which leads to the bridge from the north side of the river
