Munnar Top Station | Mattupetty Dam | Kundala Dam
Munnar Top Station Mattupetty Dam Kundala Dam
After spending a quality time in Great Escapes Resort, we departed for local sightseeing in and around Munnar. A 40 min drive through the misty mountains and the hills covered with tea plantations we reached Munnar main town. From there we took the Munnar –Top Station highway and stopped at the KFDC floriculture centre. A Scenic botanical garden full of rare flowers, succulents & other specimens. A variety of flowers and show plants are exhibited here. Nice place to visit for the people who love flowers.
We then departed towards Top Station. While proceeding we stopped at a place called Photo Point. A tea estate where tourist can be seen shooting for a picture.
Soon we arrived at Mattupetty dam. The huge reservoir is also known to be one of the visiting grounds of elephants in this region.
We visited Echo Point a Scenic spot on a reservoir featuring an echo phenomenon.
Just a few km from Echo Point we reached Kundala Dam. It is a small arch dam and boating facilities on the lake like pedal boats, shikara boats and rowboats are available on rent to make your trip more enjoyable.
We then ascended towards Top station. And this route is one of most beautiful one and the mesmerizing scenic beauty is totally enjoyable.
Finally, we reached Top Station. A few min hike is required to reach the view point. And it’s a paid entry.
Top Station, the highest point in Munnar elevated at 1700m is 32 km from the main Munnar town and falls on the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border. Here you can enjoy the panoramic view of Western Ghats and the valley of Theni district of Tamil Nadu. The place is famous for the Neelakurinji flowers (Strobilanthes kunthiana) which used to bloom once in twelve years. The bloom of these rare flowers will give the destination a different bluish look. You can also visit the Kurinjimala sanctuary very near to top Station. A major conservation habitat of the endangered Neelakurinji flower.
From Top Station, we then returned back. And on our way we visited the tea factory, Here in this factory, they show the process of tea making. It’s a paid entry but cameras are not allowed inside.
You can also taste the tea here. And then we visited the store, they offer a variety of tea, mostly are premium and high-quality teas. Therefore the price is way high compared to the one available on the market.
Finally, we reached Munnar and we began to hunt for a hotel, and we were looking for a room with a balcony view. And at last, we found a decent one in Chitirapuram called as Snowline Resort. And the balcony of this resort is perfect to shoot timelapse.
The backside of this hotel is where you can enjoy the view. And having a scrumptious breakfast aside the valley is a wonderful experience.
