Mauerpark Flea Market Berlin Germany (Flohmarkt Mauerpark)
A great day at the Mauerpark Flea Market Berlin Germany (Flohmarkt am Mauerpark ). This is a short shot of one of the Open Air performances and entertainments in the Mauerpark on Sundays.
Mauerpark is a public linear park in Berlin's Prenzlauer Berg district. The name translates to Wall Park, referring to its status as a former part of the Berlin Wall and its Death Strip. The park is located at the border of Prenzlauer Berg and Gesundbrunnen district of former West Berlin.

Places to see in ( Berlin - Germany ) Mauerpark Flea Market
Directly adjacent to the Mauerpark (Park of the Wall) in the Prenzlauer Berg district, you'll find a fleamarket with mostly private sellers with toys and vynils, clothes, musical instruments and bicycles. The fleamarket is flanked with a number of cosy cafes.
The flea market at Mauerpark is quite popular. It is frequently used as sunday afternoon activity by hip Berliners and tourists. The flea market itself consists of mainly private salespersons who offer various items. They range from clothes, shoes, bicycles to old vinyl revords, trumpery and rummage. Furthermore the flea market at Mauerpark has a large furniture tent where diligent visitors might find true treasures.
The popularity of the flea market at Mauerpark partly stems from the karaoke sessions that take place at the amphitheatre every Sunday afternoon. From spring until autumn the place is packed with a crowd of curious people even before it starts at 3 pm.
There are many opportunities around and on Mauerpark that allow a relaxing break from shopping and looking out for things. Several stalls in between the sales booths offer international delicacies and seats. Furthermore, there are many cafés on the streets around Mauerpark that serve coffee and snacks.

BERLIN'S MAUERPARK ON A SUNDAY | Flea Markets, Food and Karaoke
Having just settled into our apartment in Berlin little did I know one of the most hip flea market events took place just a stone throw away from our quarters. The flea market in Mauerpark, (known locally as Mauerpark Flohmarkt) is a hipster hangout hot spot every Sunday afternoon. Initially, I thought a 'flea market' might be a tiny little hangout of young 20 somethings perusing around for vintage clothes and a quick bite to eat.

What I didn't expect was that this park would be absolutely packed predominantly with young 20 somethings (and those of all ages) in an event featuring multiple musical performances, picnics, basketball pick-up games, live performances and an actual flea market specializing in everything from vintage fashions, vinyl Cd's, GDR memorabilia, antiques and German street food.
The actual market itself was so crowded and bustling that after I stopped for a second to snap a photo I completely lost Audrey and her friend from London (Rebecca) for nearly the entire afternoon! It was only during a performance at the pit where Audrey finally spotted me again some two hours after we had been separated.
All in all, it was a brilliant way to spend an afternoon and I enjoyed the people watching and live performances even more than the flea market and street food. It just happened to be the warmest day of the spring that afternoon - certainly an added bonus. I'm hoping we'll get a chance to return again before we leave Berlin.
Having just moved to Berlin we visited Mauerpark on Sunday for its popular flea market, live performances and music.
Mauer Park, meaning 'Wall Park' refers to its former status as part of the Berlin Wall now covered in graffiti.
The popular flea market features grid stalls selling everything from vintage fashions, vinyl CD's, GDR memorabilia, antiques and street food.
This was the perfect way for us to spend our first Sunday in Berlin:

Mauerpark Flea Market - In A Berlin Minute (Week 17)
RE-PUBLISHED original date: August 26, 2010) -- --
Supposedly there are forty flea markets in Berlin every week - one of the biggest is the Sunday market at Mauerpark (Wall Park), which is a lively park located in an area that once was part of the death strip and the Berlin wall.
The Flohmarkt features not only second hand clothes, records, shoes, cameras, bikes (Scott finally got one), toys, furniture, etc. but also a great selection of crafty designer clothes and other funky items (I'm an instant fan of the Henri Banks collection), a lot of photographs and other art. Thrown into the eclectic mix are food stalls, musicians and people of all walks of life and various states of recovering from Saturday night.
And if you've had enough of the flea market, there is always the rest of the park, which on Sundays features a big and extremely popular outdoor karaoke, people juggling fire, traveling hippie bands, swings with view and lots and lots of people watching.
On that subject, something that struck me again on this recording venture: people in Berlin seem to really hate being photographed or filmed. I spare you all the grumpy faces I caught on camera (although that might make a fun video some day). I find it fascinating how worked up people here get over being in a stranger's picture. New York is full of tourists and other photographers - but I've never heard anyone complain about someone pointing a camera in their direction. We've always just had a laugh.
Could it be because in Germany privacy and a sense of anonymity is so important (the reason why German citizens and politicians are currently freaking out about Google releasing Street View in Germany, why Facebook probably took so long to catch on and why foursquare sounds ridiculous to most Germans)? And by contrast the American takes pleasure in being the center of attention, getting 15 minutes of fame - even if it's just in the photo of a tourist? Or do most people just not care about being seen and captured in a photo while being in public? How do people in other cultures react to being photographed, I wonder?
