Maui Hawaii Best Of Video - Enjoy Each Day In Maui Hawaii to The Max
Maui Hawaii - The most loved island destinations in the world. Maui has been voted the best island in the world more than 16 times by the readers of Conde Nast Magazine. Do You Agree?
For my other Hawaiian videos and to subscribe to my YoutTube Channel click here:
Maui's most popular tourist areas are Kaanapali with its string of luxury hotels golf courses and the best hanging out beaches are. The best surfing is on the north side of the Island where the famous JAWS reef formation creates wave over 80 feet high at times.
Lahaina, once a large whaling town is now the top destination on Maui for shopping, dining, and strolling the souvenir shops. Other major attractions on Maui are visiting the desolated volcano crater of mount Haleakala. Haleakala is 10,023 feet high above sea level but add to that the more than 16,000 feet below to the ocean floor and you have one of the tallest mountains on earth.
One popular activity is biking down Haleakala on a mountain bike. The great thing about going down hill is there is very little peddling to do. Maui Hawaii also offers Helicopter tours, snorkeling tours, and whale watching tours. If you are really adventurous Maui also offers a couple of different zip-line tours.
The Piiholo Ranch Zipline has a 9 line course that flies through the eucalyptus trees.
The Island of Maui offers amazing views of the Pacific Ocean. One very popular activity on Maui is driving the Road To Hana. The winding road features numerous one lane bridges, waterfalls, steep drop offs and at times beautiful ocean views. The winding road and seemingly endless number of one lane bridges can be unnerving to some people but if you take your time and never force your right-of-way you will find the road fun and interesting.

Haleakala Observatories and Spectacular Views from the top of Volcano ~ Maui Hawaii
Haleakala Observatories and Spectacular Views from the top of Volcano ~ Maui Hawaii
Filmed in October 2014 and edited by my35Xvision
Because of the remarkable clarity, dryness, and stillness of the air, and its location above one-third of Earth’s atmosphere, as well as the limited light pollution, the summit of Haleakala is one of the most sought-after locations in the world for ground-based telescopes. As a result of the geographic importance of this observational platform, experts come from all over the world to take part in research at Haleakala Observatory, an astrophysical complex operated by the University of Hawaii, United States Air Force, LCOGT, and others.
Some of the telescopes operated by the Air Force are involved in researching man-made (spacecraft, monitoring satellites, rockets, and laser technology, etc.) rather than celestial objects. The program is in collaboration with defense contractors located in the Maui Research and Technology Park in Kihei.
Haleakala is a dormant volcano.
East Maui, or Haleakala--
A Potentially Hazardous Volcano
When asked about Hawaiian volcanoes, most people imagine the Island of Hawai`i and its eruptions at Kilauea or Mauna Loa volcanoes. But East Maui volcano has witnessed at least ten eruptions in the past 1,000 years, and numerous eruptions have occurred there in the past 10,000 years. Thus, East Maui's long eruptive history and recent activity indicate that the volcano will erupt in the future.
Haleakala National Park is the most visited part of East Maui. The Hawaiian name Hale-a-ka-la (lit., house of the sun), is now nearly synonymous with the entire shield of East Maui volcano. Early Hawaiians, however, applied the name only to the summit area, the site where the demigod Maui snared the sun and forced it to slow its journey across the sky.
The oldest lava flow exposed on East Maui is about 1.1 million years in age. It is part of a sequence of flows emplaced near the end of shield building on East Maui. The time estimated to build a volcano from ocean floor to the end of its shield-building stage is thought by some scientists to be about 0.6 million years. East Maui volcano probably began its growth about 2.0 million years ago.
Volcanism of the past 30,000 years on East Maui has been focused along the southwest and east rift zones. These two volcanic axes together form one gently curving arc that passes from La Perouse Bay (southwest flank of East Maui) through Haleakala Crater to Hana on the east flank. The alignment continues east beneath the ocean as Haleakala Ridge, one of the longest rift zones along the Hawaiian Islands volcanic chain. The on-land segment of this lengthy volcanic line of vents is the zone of greatest hazard for future lava flows and cindery ash.

Travel Guide to Maui, Hawaii (Part 1)
In this travel video guide to Maui, Hawaii, I travel to Maui and start off by heading to Haleakalā National Park to watch the sunrise from the highest volcano in Maui. On this part of the island, clouds form at the base of the volcano, and as the sun rises, a myriad of colors form and provide an unforgettable visual experience.
Next I throw on a wet suit and hit the waves to learn how to surf -- my first time ever. Though I've ridden the New York City subway after happy hour before, I was still a little unsure about how my balance would be on a surfboard. Luckily, the surf instructor had a black labrador dog out on her board with us in case anything went terribly wrong.
Finally, I wrap up the day by heading to the beach with a ukulele to have a jam session with a local Maui resident and ukulele player, where we jam out to some Bob Marley as the sun set over the Pacific Ocean, framed by the nearby islands of Moloka'i and Lana'i.
For more information on the surfing lessons I took, visit and for information on where I stayed at during the first half of my trip and took my ukulele lesson, visit and check out for info on where I stayed the second half of my trip.

Hawaii - Driving Maui - Road to Hana in 30min
(5/19/2015)
This video provides a full accounting of driving conditions from the small town of Pa'ia along the the narrow, winding Hana Highway 360 to the southeast side of the island, several miles past Hana. Multitudes of narrow roads, 1 lane bridges, switchback and blind curves make this trek an all day affair as well as a hair raising adventure. Renting a convertible allows you to get the full experience, but be sure to you can manually shift the transmission in low gear for engine braking on those downhill stretches. If you are an overly cautious driver, please remember to pull off when possible to let locals and other faster traffic pass. Please be sure to mind yield signs identifying one-lane traffic zones and 5-7 car limit local courtesy to one-lane crossings.
BE WARNED: There are many hazards along this road besides the road itself, including but not limited to:
- Distracted Tourist Drivers - These drivers are not familiar with the road nor the hazardous driving conditions. They may drive slow, stop unexpectedly and not yield at one-lane crossings as required. Try to be patient with their ignorance.
- Frustrated Locals - Some locals have very little patience for tourist drivers. They tend to drive fast, loose, tailgate and will notify you to get out of their way. I recommend to let them pass as soon as possible and try to forgive with a smile.
- Random Pedestrians - Waterfall enthusiasts, photographers and other random pedestrians may find their way on bridges and in the middle of road. Watch out as they are unpredictable and do not always yield to traffic.
- Vegetation - Trees, grasses, brush and other plants may obstruct your view of opposing yield stops and other hazards. Limbs and other debris may find their way onto the road as the road is typically under a heavy canopy.
- Water and Falling Rocks - I've never come across falling rocks, but as the road is cut into the side of old volcanic rock and it rains a lot, both may find their way on the road.
LASTLY: This road can be a wonderful experience, however please know before you go. Be safe and a kind driver.

Haleakala downhill bike ride through a cloud (April 2015)
Video of our bike ride down Haleakala in Maui on April 1, 2015 starting at Haleakala National Park entrance at 6500 ft, going through a cloud, and arriving back to the bike company for a total of about 23 miles.
Filmed using a GoPro camera mounted to the handlebars so every bump was recorded. Took us a couple of hours to finish which included pit stops for taking pictures, but as video shows, it's an hour of actual ride time.
Disclaimer: Hubby in front is an avid mountain biker, and I'm a casual biker. For our safety and my anxiety, we brought our own bike mirrors to make sure that we knew when there were cars behind us. I also added front and rear LED lights on my bike for extra visibility (and piece of mind!). Go the speed you're comfortable with, pay attention, share the road, don't be stupid, and have fun like we did! Not that many people can say they biked down a volcano and through a cloud!

Hawaii County, Hawaii - Mauna Kea Scenic Viewpoint (2018)
Mauna Kea is a dormant volcano on the island of Hawaii. Its peak is 4,207 m (13,802 ft) above sea level, making it the highest point in the state of Hawaii. Most of the mountain is under water, and when measured from its oceanic base, Mauna Kea becomes the tallest mountain in the world[5] measuring over 10,000 m (33,000 ft). Mauna Kea is about a million years old, and has thus passed the most active shield stage of life hundreds of thousands of years ago. In its current post-shield state, its lava is more viscous, resulting in a steeper profile. Late volcanism has also given it a much rougher appearance than its neighboring volcanoes; contributing factors include the construction of cinder cones, the decentralization of its rift zones, the glaciation on its peak, and the weathering effects of the prevailing trade winds. Mauna Kea last erupted 6,000 to 4,000 years ago and is now considered dormant.
In Hawaiian mythology, the peaks of the island of Hawaii are sacred. An ancient law allowed only high-ranking aliʻi to visit its peak. Ancient Hawaiians living on the slopes of Mauna Kea relied on its extensive forests for food, and quarried the dense volcano-glacial basalts on its flanks for tool production. When Europeans arrived in the late 18th century, settlers introduced cattle, sheep and game animals, many of which became feral and began to damage the mountain's ecological balance. Mauna Kea can be ecologically divided into three sections: an alpine climate at its summit, a Sophora chrysophylla–Myoporum sandwicense (or māmane–naio) forest on its flanks, and an Acacia koa–Metrosideros polymorpha (or koa–ʻōhiʻa) forest, now mostly cleared by the former sugar industry, at its base. In recent years, concern over the vulnerability of the native species has led to court cases that have forced the Hawai'i Department of Land and Natural Resources to eradicate all feral species on the mountain.
With its high elevation, dry environment, and stable airflow, Mauna Kea's summit is one of the best sites in the world for astronomical observation. Since the creation of an access road in 1964, thirteen telescopes funded by eleven countries have been constructed at the summit. The Mauna Kea Observatories are used for scientific research across the electromagnetic spectrum and comprise the largest such facility in the world. Their construction on a landscape considered sacred by Native Hawaiians continues to be a topic of debate.
Makawao Forest, Maui
The Makawao Forest Reserve (Kahakapao) Loop on Maui. Amazing place, great trails with Eucalyptus trees and red soil. My first attempt at GoPro-ing, and editing with iMovie, so not the best but it gives an idea of what a terrific ride it is. About 1 to 2 hours to do the loop for the average person. Worth doing if you like mountain biking and are on Maui. Special shout out to Crater Cycles in Kahului for setting us up with some sweet bikes. Mahalo to Green Day & WMG, Mad Caddies & SME/IODA, and Weezer & UMG for the rad music.

Maui - Road to Hana
Our two day stop in Maui, on the Carnival Spirit, started off with a trip along the coast on the Road to Hana. The journey was filled with spectacular views and many waterfalls along the winding road.
Unique Tours on the island of Maui
Every Hawaiian island is unique and very different from the others. Partly because of these differences, each island in Hawaii offers special and unusual activities and tours. The number and variety of these activities and tour choices can be mind-boggling. Couples, families or anyone planning a vacation in Hawaii have a lot of homework to do figuring out which activity or tour works best for their interests, capabilities, pocketbooks and needs.
Maui wins the prize for the most activities and tours on any island in Hawaii. Maui’s geography and nature’s blessings provide a marvelous variety of scenic areas to explore and experience. Activities and tours in every part of Maui enable visitors to take full advantage of the island’s natural attractions.
Maui also is the hub for inter-island touring. Maui’s Kapalua Airport has flights to Molokai to experience Father Damien’s Kalaupapa leper colony and also an air tour of Maui. Maui’s Lahaina is the place to take cross-channel trips to Lanai for snorkeling and perhaps a land tour or board a submarine to explore the ocean’s depths. The coast off Lanai boasts of some of the best snorkeling and dolphin watching in the state and also the largest continuous reef in Hawaii.
Even Humpback Whales have decided to vacation around Maui in the winter. The waters between Maui, Lanai, Molokai and Kahoolawe are relatively shallow. That creates a perfect location for Humpback Whales to calve and procreate. They visit regularly every winter.
Most people have heard about these Humpback Whales so they don’t need much publicity. For everything else unusual on or around Maui, our website and staff, located on Maui, try to make everyone’s research and vacation decisions much easier. The website includes both long and short lists of unusual things to do on and over Maui and around its shores.
For example, Maui has two large volcanoes connected by a large valley between them. The largest of the two, Mount Haleakala, rises to a height of over 10,000 feet. At the summit a huge volcanic crater, 21 miles in circumference, descends 3000 feet. Hikes into the crater are unforgettable. Most people have heard about downhill bike tours on the slopes of Haleakala. But these slopes above the town of Makawao also include a working cattle ranch. In addition to horseback riding through beautiful meadowland, the ranch provides a zip-line course. Visitors can combine a visit to Haleakala, scenic sightseeing, perhaps a hike into the crater or horseback riding and an exciting zip-line experience.
Most people have heard about the famous road to Hana and its gorgeous coastline. Less well-known are helicopter excursions that, weather permitting, combine visits to Haleakala's magnificent crater and tours of Hana, the Pools of 'Ohe'o and fabulous coastline waterfalls.
Maui’s mix of cultures and ethnicities is not unique or exceptional in Hawaii. Of course people from China, Japan, Korea, Portugal, Mexico and many other countries brought their special foods and eateries to Hawaii. Maui is fortunate to have an abundance of these eateries and food tours that visit them in Old Wailuku and Kahului.
Food tours are enjoyable for almost everyone. Hunting tours for small groups in back-country Maui are not. In these tours hunting wild boar the actual kill is handled by the hunter using a knife. Axis deer and wild goats are hunted with rifles. All of these wild animals are damaging the island’s vegetation. Hunting tours involve a fair bit of hiking and walking, some up into gorges and valleys. So hunting tours provide exercise as well as excitement. Less exciting but still challenging, visitors can shoot sporting clays that mimic the flight of game birds. The sporting clay course is located in an extinct cinder cone, which make the whole experience unique.
