Maui Aviators: Flying along the Coast of Maui, Hawaii
My husband flew us along the coast of Maui in a Cessna and landed in one of the most difficult airports to fly into. We captured some epic shots on our GoPro Hero3+ Black!

Flying Tropical Hawaii - A Maui to Lanai Cirrus Flight
Recently co-host Len Costa had a chance to fly a Cirrus SR22 G3 with Maui Flight Academy in Maui, Hawaii. The flight originated in Maui's Kahului Airport (PHOG) making a $100 hamburger run to the island of Lanai (PHNY) where we took a shuttle bus trip up the mountain to the Four Seasons hotel for a very delicious and scenic lunch. This is our video from Maui to Lanai.

THE BLUE HAWAIIAN DIFFERENCE There's simply no argument: Blue Hawaiian is Hawaii's #1 helicopter tour company. Blue Hawaiian's aircraft maintenance technicians have received the FAA's coveted Certificate of Excellence, Diamond Award every year since 1998. No other helicopter tour company in Hawaii has ever received this critical recognition. Blue Hawaiian was honored by the FAA for its record 12th straight year in January, 2009, at a ceremony in Honolulu, and the FAA further honored Blue Hawaiian with the very first Certificate of Excellence, Platinum Award. And Blue Hawaiian is the only helicopter tour company in Hawaii certified by the Department of Defense.
Welcome to the Blue Skies of Hawaii. Blue is the only helicopter tour company serving all four major Hawaiian islands: Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island. That means wherever you go in the Islands of Aloha, you know exactly how to get the world's finest aerial tours: just remember the color of the sky.
We don't just operate the best equipment, we help develop it. From the ultra-quiet, spacious, and powerful 21st-century Eco-Star helicopter to the breakthrough Garmin G500H technology, which gives our pilots astonishing three-dimensional synthetic vision terrain awareness in less than optimal weather; from our pioneering of multi-camera in-flight video, to designing vastly improved cockpit air-conditioning—Blue Hawaiian is always at the forefront of leading-edge innovations for your safety, comfort, and enjoyment. Because when it comes to our guests, good enough is never enough.
The finest pilots in the sky. Blue Hawaiian prides itself on hand-picking only the finest and most experienced pilots—the absolute cream of the profession—and every one of them is a State of Hawaii Certified Tour Guide. Blue Hawaiian is also the only helicopter tour company in Hawaii with its own state-of-the-art Flight Simulator, and the only one that puts its pilots through annual factory and FAA recurrent training.

Come With Us To...Maui! Day 14: Maui Tropical Plantation & Heading Home
On our last day, we finish packing up then head over to the Maui Tropical Plantation to kill a little time before our flight back home. The experience at the airport was frazzling for me (and I didn't really document it) so I am so happy we made it through that long dy of travel. Thank you for joining us on this amazing trip to Maui.

Playing in waterfalls in Kahului, Maui, Hawaii
We saved and paid for our vacation before it began. The plan was to fly straight from Atlanta to Hawaii, spend the night, then get on a cruise ship for 7 days to see 4 of the islands. Deloris planned excursions at every stop including rainforest hikes with waterfall swimming, zip lining, watching a sunrise from atop a 10,000 foot crater and biking down it, a luau, surfing lessons, and a helicopter tour of one of the islands. Epic doesn't describe it all. What a great way for us to celebrate 10 years of marriage. Awesome!

Hurricane Lane is a powerful tropical cyclone currently approaching the Hawaiian Islands, the strongest hurricane in the central Pacific since Ioke in 2006, and the first Category 5 Pacific hurricane since Patricia in 2015. The twelfth named storm, sixth hurricane, and fourth major hurricane of the 2018 Pacific hurricane season, began monitoring the system.[14] At that time, Lane began a weakening trend, as it encountered increasing wind shear from the west-southwest, falling to Category 3 status six hours later.[15] Despite repeated forecasts calling for the storm to begin weakening, Lane stabilized at an intensity around 125 mph (205 km/h) until 21:00 UTC on August 20, when it reattained Category 4 status.[16][17] Afterward, Lane continued to strengthen. Early on August 22, aircraft reconnaissance data indicated that Lane had intensified into a Category 5 hurricane, with 1-minute sustained winds of 160 mph (260 km/h).[18][19] Several hours later, Lane weakened back into a high-end Category 4 hurricane.

Preparations
On August 21, as Lane approached the Hawaiian Islands, a hurricane watch was issued for Maui County and Hawaii County.[20] Early on the next day, the hurricane watch for Hawaii County was upgraded to a hurricane warning.[21]
University of Hawaii at Manoa students who were staying on the campus were advised to stay informed and download alert apps, and to store basic emergency supplies such as flashlights, first aid kits, food and water. The University initiated emergency protocols on August 22, and a University spokesperson stated that there was two weeks worth of food and water stored in case of a severe emergency.[22]
Maui County and Big Island school districts closed August 22 for an undetermined period of time, and all non-essential state employees on the Big Island and Maui were told to stay home between August 22–24. Hawaiian Airlines waived the change fees for tickets to, from, within, and through Hawaii from August 21–26.[23]
On August 22 at 21:00 UTC, Fort Shafter announced that all Navy vessels and Air Force planes were being moved out of state due to the anticipated impact of Hurricane Lane.[24]

Major Airport Project Looms For Maui
The state transportation department is putting together several plans about how to re-do the Kahului Airport's aging main runway. One of the possibilities is closing the runway temporarily.
Flight around Hawaii Big Island and Maui - Cessna 182
Went to the Big Island of Hawaii on vacation and ended up with the coolest 2.2 hours in the logbook! Found Tropic-bird Flight in Kona and rented a Cessna 182 (& a check pilot). After about an hour of ground instruction on island and mountain flying procedures, as well as our flight plan, we headed off. This flight ended up covering everything from mountain flying, island hopping, mountain wave turbulence, high winds that don't favor runways, solid cloud layers that show up when not forecasted, low visibility in rain, international airport use, etc. Probably the best 2.2 hours of cross country in my over 14 years of flying. Got to see some of God's most beautiful and diverse creations.....definitely something I'd recommend to any pilot taking a trip to Hawaii!
The only downside is that I did not take an audio recorder with me to record the communication side....so you only get to hear the rumble of the 230hp Continental.
