CRUISE TERMINAL AND TOWNSHIP IN MAURITIUS.
Collage Design has developed the Concept Design for the mixed use project at Les Salines situated in the district Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius. The underdeveloped Waterfront site of Les Salines will be converted into a vibrant Mixed-Use Development, the development is stretched across 58.33 acres land. The project is divided into two phases first including High end Residential, Service Apartment, Hotel, Commercial block, Retail & Cultural Center. The other Phase would include some more residential& Commercial Blocks with Service apartments and Convention & Exhibition center, Cruise terminal, Religious Center.
MPA Cruise Terminal Building – an icon in the making
With cruise liner calls anticipated to increase to 50 calls and passenger traffic forecast to reach 60,000 per annum by 2021, the MPA is enhancing the cruise reception facilities at Les Salines through the construction of an iconic passenger terminal building with a floor area of some 7,325m². The terminal is designed to accommodate a peak of 4,000 passengers.
The construction of the Cruise Terminal Building will start by end of 2018 and is expected to be completed by the mid of 2020. It is also planned to use this state-of-the-art facility to handle all inter-island traffic.
The MPA intends to make the building a focal point to promote cruise home porting activities at Port Louis. Besides Costa Crociere, two new lines namely, Aida Cruises and Fred Olsen Lines have begun using Port Louis as their homeport in this part of the world. This buoyancy is expected to continue as the MPA is working closely with the Ministry of Tourism, the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority, the Ports Association of Indian Ocean Islands and the Association Iles Vanille to position Mauritius not only as a world class cruise destination but also as a leading ‘fly-cruise’ gateway for the Indian Ocean region. The Terminal Building will be located on a site of 25ha. The remaining area will be developed for associated waterfront projects with the Ocean World as its dominant feature. The construction of a world-class Aquarium, which has already started in the neighbouring site, will be completed by mid-2020 and is set to be the centre of attraction on the waterfront.
