Where is Mawmluh Cave? (Mawsmai and Mawmluh cave) ????
Went to Mawsmai and Mawmluh cave, but sadly couldn't go inside mawmluh because it was too dark and i forgot to take my flashlight, the entrance with stairs is the actual way. Which I figured out later while researching online.

Meghalaya's Mawmluh Cave - National Geological Monument
Test your limits inside the Mawsmai caves, Meghalaya
Mawsmai cave has impressive formations of large passages and chambers.
The Mawsmai cave is located 6km from the main town of Sohra, as Cherrapunjee is locally known. It is one of the chief attractions besides the famous waterfalls for people visiting nearby Cherrapunjee from Shillong. Mawsmai Cave is open to tourist explorations and is lit up by halogen lights in certain portions, making it a relatively easy cave for beginners to navigate. The winding wet paths inside the caves call for caution and visitors may experience flashes of claustrophobia too.
The Indian state of Meghalaya is famous for its many caves, which attract tourists from India and abroad. A few of the caves in this region have been listed amongst the longest and deepest in the world. Most of the caves of these areas were either discovered or surveyed by the Europeans (especially by German, British and Italian cavers). Herbert Daniel Gebauer, Simon Brooks, Thomas Arbenz and Rosario Ruggieri are the most prominent name among them. Brian Khapran-Daly of Meghalaya Adventure association have expedite most of the caves of Meghalaya (stated above). In addition to these, the cavers' associations of Meghalaya have always been found to be active in cave discoveries of that plateau.
Unscientific quarrying of limestone led to the collapse of the Mawmluh cave of Meghalaya, and the caves of Jantia Hills are also in danger due to excessive quarrying of coal.
The 'National Cave Research and Protection Organization, India' has been formed to help protect the caves of India. In addition, members of the Meghalaya Adventures Association (principally, Brian Kharpan Dally) work to protect the natural caves of Meghalaya.

Meghalaya’s caves hold the earth’s history, from the dinosaurs to a major drought 4,000 years ago
Meghalaya is home to some of the most fascinating caves in the world, rich in flora and fauna, geological and archaeological treasures. The recently-announced geological age, Meghalayan, has its genesis in a stalagmite from one such cave, Krem Mawmluh. A geological age represents a time when the earth went through significant changes, and when scientists analysed the stalagmite from the Krem Mawmluh cave they found a time period 4,200 years ago of heavy drought which hurt civilizations in the Indus Valley, Greece, and Mesopotamia.
In Krem Puri, the world’s longest sandstone cave, scientists have discovered fossils of dinosaurs, including the giant aquatic reptile Mosasaurus that lived 66-76 million years ago. 1,700 caves have been discovered in Meghalaya so far, and scientists are getting a glimpse into our past the more they explore them.
Follow this story and more:
In Depth : Meghalayan Age
Meghalaya, which means the land of clouds is also known to the world as one of the wettest places on Earth.
But now, it has a new claim to fame ... The state has a big role in determining the age we are living in - all thanks to a stalagmite found in the Mawmluh cave in the northeastern state. In today's In Depth, we take up in detail what the Meghalayan Age is, how did scientists classify the Holocene Epoch and what is the basis on which these classifications are done.
World's Longest Sandstone Cave Krem Puri Cave in Meghalaya
1. Top 10 biggest caves in the world.
2. Longest cave in India.
3. Longest cave system in the world.
4. Deepest cave in the world.
5. Discovered recently in Meghalaya, India.
6. Places to visit in Meghalaya.
7. Adventure, Caving, Trekking.
8. Meghalaya Caving.
9. Meghalaya Tourism.
The world’s longest sandstone cave at 24,583 metres in length has been discovered in Meghalaya, the northeastern state known for its complex cave systems hidden under its undulating hills.
Called Krem Puri, the cave was discovered in 2016, but its actual length was found during an expedition by the Meghalaya Adventurers’ Association (MAA) to measure and map it between February 5 and March 1 this year, said Brian Daly Kharpran, a founding member of the organisation.
This underground cavern is more than 6,000 metres longer than the world record-holder, the Cueva Del Saman in Edo Zulia, Venezuela — a quartzite sandstone cave measuring 18,200 metres.
“This sandstone cave has also become India’s second longest cave in the general category after the limestone Krem Liat Prah-Umim-Labit system measuring a little over 31km in Jaintia Hills in Meghalaya,” said Kharpran, a recipient of the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award in 2002.
Besides delighting speleologists and cave enthusiasts, Krem Puri near the village of Laitsohum in the Mawsynram area of East Khasi Hills district also has features that attract paleontologists.
The cave system has fossils of dinosaurs, especially the Mosasaurus, a giant reptile that lived 66-76 million years ago.
The expedition team comprised 30 seasoned cavers from the UK, Ireland, Austria, Romania, Switzerland, Poland, the Netherlands, members of MAA, and four Italian scientists from La Venta.
The scientists were invited to give their insight about the structure and genesis of krems, which in the Khasi language means cave, in Mawsynram — known as the wettest place on earth for its record-breaking rainfall.
It the longest sandstone cave in the world. Krem Puri means “fairy cave” in the local Khasi language. It is almost three times the height of Mount Everest. Krem Puri is 6,000-metre longer than previous record holder Venezuela’s Cueva Del Saman.
Cueva Del Saman is 18.2 km long quartzite sandstone cave in Edo Zulia. Krem Puri is rich in flora and fauna. Several lesser known species of frogs, fish, spiders and bats have been found in the cave. Even dinosaur fossils of Mosasaurus have been found in Krem Puri. Mosasaurus was a giant aquatic carnivorous reptile that lived 66-76 million years ago. Ace caver Brian D.Kharpran Daly said Krem Puri is their biggest find. The expedition team comprised 30 seasoned cavers from the UK, Ireland, Austria, Romania, Switzerland, Poland, and the Netherlands. Four Italian scientists from La Venta were also part of the expedition. The 25-day exploration mapped almost all of Krem Puri. There are more than 1,650 caves in Meghalaya.

New age named after Mawmluh caves in India
The Meghalayan Age, a new part of Geologic History
Meghalaya is now part of geologic history ,a stalagmite found in the Mawmluh cave in the northeastern state has put Meghalaya in Geological history.
“...The beginning of this youngest time interval of the Geologic Time Scale corresponds with a major cultural changed driven by a major climatic event,” said Stanley Finney, secretary general of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) through an email.
Meghalaya Part 2 | Cherrapunjee | Nongriat | Shillong | Northeast India
Watch Meghalaya Part 1
On our third day we went to the world famous “Cherrapunjee”, also known as Sohra, a high-altitude town in the northeast of Meghalaya. It's known for its living root bridges, made from rubber trees. Our driver suggested us to go to NONGRIAT first to see the Double Decker Living Roots bridge but we thought it would be better to do it later as the trek to and fro the Double decker living root bridge would be very tiring. ( Now we can’t really decide whether we took the right decision because the trek was tiring and sweaty but we also couldn’t see a lot of views in Cherrapunji as it rained a lot when we went there in the morning ????). South of the town, MAWSMAI CAVE , illuminated to show its stalagmites was awesome though ????.
We wasted our 4th day in Shillong as luck did not favour with the weather. It rained cats and dogs and we had no other option than to stay indoors. It was good rest in a way too because the previous day trek almost killed our thighs and calves ????.
On our 5th day, we hired a scooty, faced the rain and went out to explore Shillong. First we went to ELEPHANT FALLS, then stopped by ML05 cafe on our way to Shillong peak. We did not see much of Shillong from the view point though ( Thanks to the FOG ), but we enjoyed our hot tea there and ofcourse the Khasi dress trial .
