Mawson Lakes Rail & Bus Interchange Parafield Airport Northern Food Park Greater Adelaide video 2016
Adelaide's original Abattoirs were in various locations in the Adelaide Parklands adjacent to the site of the new Royal Adelaide Hospital.
In 1908 the State Government moved them to Gepps Cross on the Eastern side of the Gawler Rail Line near the junction with the Dry Creek to Port Adelaide Line. The Adelaide City Council was given the charter to operate the Abattoir.
The land around the Abattoir developed as stock holding yards for the Abattoir and general sheep and cattle sale yards.
The abattoir and sale yards operated for 89 years.
In 1927 the aviation industry had developed to the stage that the Commonwealth government purchased 318 acres (129 ha) of land at Parafield from a family owned farming company. The area had been used for fattening sheep on lucerne and other fodder plants.
Technology Park was opened in 1982 on portion of the Gepps Cross Sales Yard land.
1983 a third track for Standard Gauge trains was laid on the western side of the dual tracks of Broad Gauge of the Gawler Line.
This track skirts around the western side of the Dry Creek North Shunting Yard.
1987 was the year that the proposed site for a Multi-Function Polis (MFP) was moved to Adelaide from the Gold Coast in Queensland.
The salt flats of Gillman and North Arm Creek were mooted as suitable land with a water-front location.
In 1995 a new airport was opened at West Beach and the airport at Parafield became a site for numerous training schools for pilots, along with other general aviation.
1997, after much negative input the concept for the MFP was move to the higher land at the Gepps Cross Sales yard. On the southern border of Parafield airport.
1998 private enterprise developed the area as Mawson Lakes. In line with the Queensland Gold Coast waterfront properties were retained. There are, however, no outlets for boats into the Port River estuary, as envisaged with the MFP site at Gillman.
2006 the Elder Smith Road Bridge over the northern end of the Dry Creek North Rail Yard was opened as the Mawson Lakes Interchange.
Mawson Lake Interchange has a large Park n Ride facility for Bus and Train commuters.
The University of South Australia (UniSA) has a campus known as Mawson Lakes Campus. Mawson Lakes is well known for its computing and information technology, engineering, science, civil aviation, applied science, sports science, e-commerce and environmental studies programs.
The Dry Creek North Shunting Yards are owned by the Australian Government through the single share it owns in the Australian Rail Track Corporation Ltd (ARTC) ARTC has leased the area to Genesee & Wyoming Australia (GWA).
The Northern Food Park for Cross Keys Precinct of Parafield Airport property announced October 2015

Biking around Adelaide
In South Australia, there are lots of great cycling trails all around the place. From mountain bike trails to leisurely rides through metropolitan Adelaide.
My husband and I took a bike trip starting at Victoria Park. Then, we hit Botanic Gardens and rode along the River Torrens. After that, we passed Bonython Park and ended up at South Terrace.
It was an enjoyable ride. Thank you for watching :)
