During the month of April 2006, I had the opportunity to travel to St Vicent with one of the school's seniors. Here are some pictures of the island's awe-striking beauty.

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines 2014
This time returning to the Caribbean, I was on a mission to find out more about my mother's roots and life in the village where she grew up. After spending some time in St. Vincent, we venture to the small and beautiful island of Mayreau where my mom was born and spent two days at Dennis's Hideaway. I spoke with Curtis, Mirabelle, Icelynn, Sigbut and Dennis who helped me with my search. Local villagers like Mama Gatto and Miss Mildred enlightened me with Mayreau's past and the struggles with water, growing food and surviving. They helped me find the missing pieces to the jig saw puzzle of the St. Hillaries'.
During the early 1940's most of my mom's family moved to St. Vincent to make a better life. Also, with the help of a book written by a local Mayreau resident, Nancy Saul Demers called Mayreau Memories and Grace Eustance's book with the Eustance and St. Hillaire's genealogy, I was able the trace back the St. Hilaire's family.
One of our excursions, was a Sunday side trip to Bequia where we spent the day on Lower Beach and Princess Margaret beach, swimming and enjoying the sun. Hank and I also spent a day in Union Island soaking in the sun, experiencing the people, exploring the island and being refreshed with coconut water and the local brew, Hairoun.
With my cousin, Ken and his wife Carole, drove us to different parts of St. Vincent to places such as Mesopotamia, Wallilabou Bay where Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed, and a natural spring spa where the water tasted like Perrier. All of us visited my Aunt Hannah and her daughter, Shirley one Sunday afternoon and enjoyed the company of family. We had a great lunch with Simone, her husband Wayne and their two children, Daniella and Camille. It was nice to be in Richmond Hill and see my birthplace.
We enjoyed the bustling Kingstown and took a side trip to the Botanical gardens. We equally enjoyed our nightly visits, next-door at Ken and Carole's, along with their friends, Julian and Anna. Under the stars, with the warm breezes, and sipping on a brew, we enjoyed each others' company.
Highlights of our trip were drinking coconut water and buying local fruit and veggies from roadside stands, conversing with the locals and embracing the hospitality of the island people.
