LG&E - Ohio Falls Station
Louisville’s location on the Ohio River allows the opportunity for LG&E to safely harness the natural energy of the river to create electricity. Ohio Falls Hydro Station was built in the mid 1920’s and was commissioned in 1927.
The station is uniquely located within the McAlpine Locks and Dam Navigational Project and the Falls of the Ohio Natural Wildlife Conservation Area. The Army Corps of Engineers operates the dam and spill gates at the Falls to help control and monitor the flow of the river for navigation.

SITREP: Falls of the Ohio
The Falls of the Ohio portal is in the middle of the Ohio River and normally is virtually unreachable even by boat. Every fall for a short time there is a portage available and the spillway gates are closed so that the area can be reached via hike/wading. This site is not only the original place where George Rogers Clark built a fort to defend the colonies/invade the British strongholds, it is also filled with Native American artifacts.
After walking for hours and wading through knee-deep water, L8 (R) Agent Sirron captured this historic and normally inaccesible portal for the Resistance. (Original Music Courtesy of Modern Day Relic -- Lexington KY)

Falls of the Ohio
We took a trip to the Falls of the Ohio in southern Indiana a few days ago, and here's some of the footage I got.
From their website, fallsoftheohio.org:
Located on the banks of the Ohio River in Clarksville, Indiana at I-65, exit 0, is the Falls of the Ohio State Park. The 390-million-year-old fossil beds are among the largest, naturally exposed, Devonian fossil beds in the world. The park features a spectacular Interpretive Center overlooking the fossil beds containing an exhibit gallery and video presentation. The Interpretive Center is open year round, except Thanksgiving and Christmas day.
The Falls was originally a series of rapids allowing the Ohio River to drop 26 feet over a distance of two and a half miles. This was the only navigational hazard over the 981 mile-length river formed by rock outcrops. Today much of the original falls have been flooded behind the McAlpine dam.
See more pictures I took at the falls at:
