Stoke Beer Introduction
The Award Wining New Zealand Craft Beer - Stoke
McCashin's Brewery is based in Nelson, New Zealand, and home to the pioneers of craft brewing.
McCashin’s Brewery started life as the Rochdale Cider factory in the late 1930s, however the current building was erected in the 1950s. It was purchased in 1981 by former All Black and farmer Terry McCashin and his wife Bev. They continued to make Rochdale Cider and began brewing craft beer.
Terry McCashin is credited with being ‘first in craft’ and starting the “craft beer revolution” in New Zealand, and changing the course of the beer industry in New Zealand.
The Brewery was re-opened by the second generation of McCashin’s in 2009. Today McCashin’s Brewery is the oldest craft brewery in New Zealand. Stoke Beer was launched in 2010, and Rochdale Cider was re-branded and re-launched in 2009.
About Us:
Perched at the top of the South Island, where the water is clear and the sun beats down year-round, we practice the art of brewing exquisite beer.
We’ve obtained the finest organic hops and premium malt, developed our own bespoke yeast, and sourced 14,000 year-old Palaeo water, blending them together to craft our highly acclaimed beer using techniques passed along through a family of award-winning brewers.
And while we use modern technology and an innovative approach on a daily basis, traditional values still guide everything we do. Kiwi ingenuity, a respect for the brewing practices handed down over the years, and a refusal to compromise the purity of the beer we produce result in a product that we’re proud to put our name to.
We’re brewers who have not just learned a craft, but learned a family business.
We’re beer lovers, creating beer for those who appreciate quality beverages; those who crave the satisfaction of a long swig on a cold bottle after a day’s hard work, and those who believe they deserve the finest quality and the very best taste.
We’re passionate, dedicated and uncompromising,
We’re lovers of beer.

Beer Review #3 - McCashin Stoke Kiwi Pale Ale
I review McCashin Stoke Kiwi Pale Ale. A beer from Nelson, New Zealand.
The Original Stoke Bomber By The McCashin Family
Kiwi Pale Ale (KPA) 5.5% ABV 650MLS
Crafted in Nelson, New Zealand
Bombs Away
Appearance: Dark gold/amber hue, very clear, no head or lacing except for some bubbling around edge, flat appearance
Aroma: Very malty, big brand generic beer smell, boozy after swirl, no-low hops, soft/blunt
Taste: Smooth, round with nothing sticking out, touch of bitterness that fades, good carbonation
Verdict: Easy drinking beer good in sessions and not bad pricing at $7 on sale from $9 for a 650ML bottle. Uses Wai-iti hops which don't sem to be a very in your face hop - quite mild in bitterness, aroma, and taste. Another McCashin beer with quite a malty flavour.
Rating: 6/10
