This video is a prayer For Fort McMurray and other evacuated communities, by the United Churches in the Central Ontario presbytery Kawartha Highlands. Sunday morning, May 8, 2016.
Gracious Creator, through our sacred stories we know that you are always present, strong and faithful. You are there in the wilderness, you are there in Babylon, and you are in Alberta and British Columbia, as entire communities flee wildfires and leave behind all that they know and own.
Be with the people of Fort McMurray, Anzac, Gregoire Lake Estates, Fort McMurray First Nation, and Fort McKay First Nation Alberta, and Fort St John British Columbia, as they scatter across a wide land, wondering how and when they will be able to return home.
As they begin to settle in to their new “normal”, in shelters, camps, homes of friends... we especially ask you to be with them as reality becomes clear;
- As televisions and computers fill with images of what they have left behind, help them to see your love.
- As realization of what they did not bring with them grips their hearts, help them to know your comfort.
- As they worry about scattered communities and wonder if things will ever be the same, help them to understand your eternal, healing presence.
- As the compassion, concern, outpouring of love is lavished upon them, help them to accept that they are not alone.
We live in your world, and we live there together. We give you thanks for the first responders who continue to risk safety and health to stop the fires from spreading. Bless them we pray.
We give you thanks for the first responders who stood in fiery, smoky intersections to help panicked and frightened residents find safe way out of town. Bless them we pray.
We give thanks for ordinary citizens who supplied food, water and fuel to stranded motorists. We give thanks for the large oil companies and first nations communities who stopped business as usual, and made space for those in need.
Loving Creator, this morning we pray for our brothers and sisters who have fled the wild fires in the west. This morning we pray for aunts and uncles, grandchildren, neighbours… we ask you to bless them all.

WestJet ensured people were able to get to safety during the mass evacuation on May 3rd. With the help of the oilsands corporations like Shell and Suncor, they also helped get people from the oil camps to safety. Takeoff from Fort McMurray - Air Canada Jazz- Bombardier CRJ 100 - FROM THE FLIGHT DECK!!!
Takeoff from runway 25 at Fort McMurray airport (Alberta, Canada) on an Air Canada Jazz Bombardier CRJ 100 departing to Calgary. The normal scheduled flight was cancelled due to a few avionics issues and a flap failure. We were able to get the flaps down to 8 degrees and were approved to ferry the plane to Calgary for maintenance however no passengers were allowed to be transported (wich made my day!!). We flew all the way with the flaps extended to 8 degrees.... wich took us extra long...

Glenn Stone promised his mother that he would accompany her body on the same flight back to Toronto, after which she would be buried beside her late husband in Dundas, Ontario. Reporter Adrian Ghobrial with why that didn't happen.
