Mecca Bingo Southport ~ Previously The Garrick Theatre.
Opened in 1932, The theatre was designed by George Tonge at a cost of £120,000 to construct. Sold to Essoldo in 1957 and turned into a cinema around 1960 and then sold to The Ladbroke group in 1973 who operated as Lucky 7 Bingo and then later passed to the Rank group who operated as Top Rank bingo and Mecca to date. Now a grade 2 listed building. I filmed this in 2005 and I must apologise for the occasional finger to the bottom right of the screen!

DEVELOPMENT AND LOCATION INFORMATION PADDOCKS
In a fantastic location, minutes from Telford town centre and on the edge of the stunning Shropshire countryside, you’ll find The Paddocks, a development of two, three and four bedroom homes. With all the modern amenities you’ll need on your doorstep, and easy access to some of the UK’s most picturesque landscapes, this development offers the best of both worlds.
As part of the emerging community at Lightmoor Village, the new homes will benefit from a primary school, community centre, health centre, nursery and shops as well as parks and green open spaces in the village centre. The stunning village of Ironbridge on the River Severn is a short drive away as is the Southwater develoment, with a library, Cinema, Ice Rink, Bowling, Bingo and Telford Town Park with numerous play areas, aerial ropes and mini golf course.
The Paddocks at Horsehay is situated next to the Lightmoor Village, a collaboration between Bournville Village Trust, English Partnerships and Keepmoat Homes, creating a vibrant new contemporary urban community built around traditional values and modern building techniques. Lightmoor village is built around core values such as community and sustainability; a village green will be the focal point of this exciting new idyllic location with space for sports, fetes, farmers markets and other events to bring the community closer together.
Telford
The Paddocks is ideally situated on the borders of the Shropshire countryside, but just a few miles away sits Telford Shopping Centre with over 150 big name stores such as House of Fraser, Debenhams, Next and H&M along with an Ice Rink, Bowling and 10 screen cinema, plus the exciting new Southwater Development which will see the creation of further shops, bars and restaurants. Telford also has a host of retail shopping parks.
Great motorway access means you are also only a short distance away from Shropshire’s beautiful county town of Shrewsbury and in the opposite direction the urban shopping mecca of Birmingham.
Shropshire
It is easy to see why Shropshire is renowned as one of Britain’s most beautiful counties when you start exploring the incredible countryside, steeped in history and plotted with many delightful market towns with traditional local traders, pubs and much more. You really are in the epicentre of where the Industrial Revolution began and it is easy to immerse yourself in this at any one of Ironbridges 10 museums. The Severn Valley Railway runs through unspoilt countryside of which there is plenty around the county, littered with abbeys, churches, castles and even a Roman City at Wroxeter.

Attempted Robbery at Narans Newsagents
A bungling thief exposed part of his face and his underwear during a robbery at a newsagents.
It happened during an armed robbery at the Naran Newsagents on Barlow Road in Levenshulme at about 11.45am on 6 September 2014.
The armed robber burst into the store wearing some kind of fancy dress or Halloween-type mask described as being green or yellow and an eight-inch machete with an orange handle.
He approached the cashier and demanded cash, before going round the counter and stealing cash from the till. At this point, the shopworker was genuinely fearful he would attacked as the machete was being brandished in clear view.
The thief then tried to run off, but slipped over and dropped all the cash and the knife.
He then spent the next minute or so trying to gather the cash from off the floor and stuff it back into his pockets and trousers, at which point his hood fell off revealing his ethnicity and shaved head.
A customer then walked into the shop as the thief picked up the knife from the floor and fled out of the shop, not before his trousers had slipped halfway down his legs.
After threatening the customer, the robber finally managed to escape.
The entire incident was captured on CCTV which police have now released and are appealing to anyone who recognises the thief to come forward.
He is described as white, about 5ft 9in tall, wearing the mask with a black coat and dark trousers. The machete was said to be about an inch wide, eight inches long with an orange handle and a slight curve in the blade.
Detective Constable Andrea Holden-Cullum said: Watching this CCTV is like watching a comedy of errors.
After slipping over and spilling cash all over the floor, the thief then spent a good 60 seconds trying to pick it all back up, and in doing so exposed part of his face and his backside and potentially identifying himself.
However, as amusing as his bungling attempts were, I must stress this is no laughing matter. This man threatened a shopkeeper with a large knife and also intimated he would stab the victim if he refused to acquiesce to his demands.
That makes him a dangerous individual we need to catch and I would therefore appeal to people to study the footage we have issued and if you recognise this man, then please call us.
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

The Beatles *Huge* Abandoned Enchanting Hulme Hippodrome - Episode 70 (Series 3) Manchester 2018
In Our 70th Episode Of The Series, We Explore The Magnificent & Enchanting Massive Hulme Hippodrome, Where The Likes Of Laurel & Hardy & The Beatles Performed.
The Grand Junction Theatre and Floral Hall was opened on 7th October 1901. It was a drama theatre, and presented plays, pantomimes, opera and occasional variety shows. It was designed in a Moorish/Roccoco style by architect J.J. Alley. (In 1902 J.J. Alley also designed the smaller Hippodrome variety theatre (later Playhouse/Nia Centre) which was built adjacent to it at the corner of Warwick Street). It was built for and operated by the Broadhead’s Theatres circuit and was their head office. Seating in the theatre was provided for 2,000 in orchestra stalls, dress circle and gallery levels, with 1,000 seats in the Floral Hall.
In 1905 it was re-named Hulme Hippodrome Theatre and was screening films as well as presenting variety shows. Films continued to be screened until at least 1927. From 1942 until 1949 it was re-named Manchester Repertory Theatre. In 1950 it was taken over by the Brennon Cinemas circuit and was refurbished & redecorated, becoming the Hulme Hippodrome Theatre again, re-opening on 20th February 1950 with a variety show starring Billy Reid & Dorothy Squires. In 1960, it became a ‘revue bar’ presenting stiptease performers. In 1962 it closed and was converted into a Mecca Bingo Club.
It was closed in 1986
