Medersa Salé - Morocco
Morocco (Listeni/məˈrɒkoʊ/; Arabic: المغرب al-Maghrib, lit. The West; Berber: ⵍⵎⴰⵖⵔⵉⴱ Lmaɣrib), officially known as the Kingdom of Morocco (Arabic: المملكة المغربية al-Mamlakah al-Maghribiyah, lit. The Western Kingdom; Berber: ⵜⴰⴳⵍⴷⵉⵜ ⵏ ⵍⵎⴰⵖⵔⵉⴱ Tageldit n Lmaɣrib), is a sovereign country located in the Maghreb region of North Africa. Geographically, Morocco is characterized by a rugged mountainous interior, large tracts of desert, and a lengthy coastline along the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea.
Morocco has a population of over 33.8 million and an area of 446,550 km2 (172,410 sq mi). Its capital is Rabat, and the largest city is Casablanca. Other major cities include Marrakesh, Tangier, Tetouan, Salé, Fes, Agadir, Meknes, Oujda, Kenitra, and Nador. A historically prominent regional power, Morocco has a history of independence not shared by its neighbours. Since the foundation of the first Moroccan state by Idris I in 789, the country has been ruled by a series of independent dynasties, reaching its zenith under the Almoravid and Almohad dynasty, spanning parts of Iberia and Northwestern Africa. Marinid and Saadi dynasties continued the struggle against foreign domination, and Morocco remained the only North-African country to avoid Ottoman occupation. The Alaouite dynasty, the current ruling dynasty, seized power in 1666. In 1912 Morocco was divided into French and Spanish protectorates, with an international zone in Tangier, and regained its independence in 1956. Moroccan culture is a blend of Arab, indigenous Berber, Sub-Saharan African, and European influences.

جولة في أحياء سلا
Un tour des quartiers de la ville de Sale
Salé (Arabic: سلا#; tifinagh: ⵙⵍⴰ) is a city and commune of #Morocco, capital of the prefecture of Salé, in the region of Rabat-Salé-Kenitra. It is located at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, on the right bank (north) of the mouth of the Bouregreg, in front of the national capital Rabat. This explains why the two cities are sometimes called twin cities, but each has its own traditions and history. In 2014, the municipality had 982 163 inhabitants. Salé is linked to Rabat through several bridges, of which the Hassan II bridge is the most used.
Founded by the Phoenician explorers in the 3rd century BC, Salé is experiencing an important development in the Almohad period (twelfth century) and Mérinides (fourteenth century), due to its strategic position. on the land route linking Fez to Marrakech and thanks to its port, trading center between #Europe and Morocco.
In the seventeenth century, the arrival of the Muslim refugees of Spain gives a new breath to the city and creates a rivalry with the adjoining city of Rabat. The Andalusian Moriscos, animated for some of a spirit of revenge against Christians, embark on a race war and constitute a powerful political entity known as the Republic of Bouregreg, leading expeditions to Cornwall. Renowned for their daring and cunning, the corsairs Salé leave the image of Sallee Rovers in the memory of the English. Until the eighteenth century, commercial activity allowed Salé to expand its influence in the region, while conducting piracy activities in very remote areas such as Iceland and Newfoundland.
With the nineteenth century begins the end of the preponderant commercial role of the city, and Salé is closed on itself. It remains, during the nineteenth century and during the time of the French and Spanish protectorates, a high place of culture, resistance and religious life. The medina of the city contains many monuments, riads of Hispano-Morisco inspiration, zaouïas, marabouts and private libraries. Since the end of the twentieth century, it has experienced a strong growth of its population and at the same time a degradation of its image, in particular because of an urbanism become anarchic. King Mohamed I set up Andalusian settlers to plow the land and build the city's sewers.
The medina corresponds to the urban space, the historic city with its old ramparts and ancient gates. It is, in general, the place of residence of Saletins who belong to Chorfas (religious aristocracy), Ulemas (scholars), families present for generations in Salé. This site falls into the category of cities qualified by the historian Ahmed Naciri of hadaria that is to say the citadinity
Urban space is made up of authorized neighborhoods. They are generally inhabited by a population having a certain seniority at Salé and belonging to the well-to-do socio-economic categories (civil servants, traders, etc.)
The suburb is formed by neighborhoods built illegally. Under-equipped, they do not comply with urban planning rules. They include a population that has recently settled in Salé and whose standard of living is generally below average .
