Medieval Fort of Larnaca
The castle was built in the 14th century, under King James I de Lusignan (1382-1398). He served for the defence of the seaport and during the reign of the Venetians on the island (1489-1571). All that is left of that building are the archways in the southern part and a semi-circular apse, along which there are tombstones of the 14th century from the Gothic churches of Nicosia. During the years of the war with the Ottoman Empire, the fort was captured and destroyed, however, in 1625 it was rebuilt, and the fort acquired a modern look combining the features of Romanesque and Ottoman architecture. In 1878, the castle was captured by the British army, it was used as a police station, a prison and a place for executions. In the First World War, the fort was into the hands of the German invaders. In 1948 the castle was converted into a museum. In 1963, during the conflict between the Turks and the Greek policemen, some of the exhibits were badly damaged, and some - stolen.

Fort of Larnaca, Cyprus
The earliest reference to the construction of the Larnaca Fort is 1380 A.D. During the Ottoman occupation a new renovation was made dating 1625 A.D. It was used as a prison, as it was during early British rule. It now houses a small archaeological museum, with finds from Kition and the Hala Sultan Tekke excavations. It is now used as a local Medieval Museum, and its inner courtyard is used as an open-air garden-theatre during the summer months, by kind permission of the Director of Antiquities.

Larnaca has been inhabited since the 14th century B.C. when the Mycenaean-Achaeans Greeks founded a small town. Much later, the Byzantines constructed a small fort near its harbor. The initial construction of the Byzantine fort started in late 12th century AD.
After the Cypriot independence the castle was converted into a museum, while the castle courtyard was converted into an open-air theatre, accommodating 200 people. Antiques from Early Christian, Byzantine, and Post Byzantine Cyprus are exhibited in the western room of the museum whilst Byzantine wall paintings are exhibited in the central room and medieval pottery, utensils, and weapons occupy the eastern room.

Paris, its capital, is famed for its fashion houses, classical art museums including the Louvre and monuments like the Eiffel Tower. The country is also renowned for its wines and sophisticated cuisine. Lascaux’s ancient cave drawings, Lyon’s Roman theater and the vast Palace of Versailles attest to its rich history.

Limassol Castle - Medieval Museum, Cyprus
The medieval castle is one of the ten castles of Cyprus. It was built by the Byzantines around 1000 AD. Around the same period, a chapel was also built there. Richard the Lionheart is supposed to have married his fiancée on this site after her ship was grounded nearby in 1191 as she accompanied him to the Third Crusade, on his way to Holy Land. The Castle was used as a prison between 1790 and 1940 and it now serves as a medieval museum. The collection that the museum provides covers the era of 400–1870 AD. A visitor can see numerous exhibits: cannons, wood carvings of the 17th and 18th century, paintings and tombstones, statues, suits of armour, coins, terracotta, metalware and pottery, glass and marble articrafts.
