Hill Country State Natural Area, Bandera, TX: Cowboy Country
Bob and I spent the weekend at Hill Country State Natural Area in Bandera, Texas, USA. It was a great place to relax and enjoy the outdoors. I demonstrated my sleeping bag which was modified into a snuggie. See:
Bandera is sometimes called the Cowboy Capital Of The World. In the late 19th century, cowboys would drive cattle from Texas to Kansas railheads. In1866 cattle in Texas were worth only $4 per head, compared to over $40 peer head in the North and East.
Mrs. Louise Merrick donated her land to the state for public equestrian camping and riding in 1976. The ranch was originally a Spanish land grant settled in 1840. Equestrians, hikers and mountain bikers can explore the trails. Primitive and back country camping areas are available to equestrian and non-equestrian campers.

Bridlegate ~ Bandera TX
POWELL Real Estate “Bridlegate”
Born on the banks of the Medina River … BRIDLEGATE.
Forty-seven miles northwest of downtown San Antonio is BANDERA TEXAS.
In the late 1800’s, Bandera was the starting point of the Great Western Cattle Trail moving cattle & horses to open range ranches, rail-heads, and markets in other states.
Life on the frontier remains part of the heritage here. Bandera is celebrated as the “Cowboy Capital of the World.”
BRIDLEGATE is one of those kinda places where you can bring your horses and feel right at home.
Here, land is affordable … and abundant ! … with home sites of 2 acres and more.
Homes at Bridlegate can be as modest as 2200 square feet
as it turns out, most are around 3000 to 3500 square feet.
And, there ain’t no cookie-cutter homes out here. Bridlegate’s reasonable quality guidelines ensure that each site-built custom home is unique ~ as well as architecturally consistent with the “ranch feel” that IS Bridlegate.
And, listen-up I’ll let you in on a little secret …
In Bridlegate, you can build yourself an approved BARNDOMINIUM while you’re getting’ started on your main house.
No need to wait to begin enjoyin’ Bridlegate. You can live out here while your main home is under construction.
What’s MORE ~ you can have your slice of Texas Hill Country without tradin’ your life savings to drill a water well.
… Bridlegate has its own water supply.
And ~ what you may NOT notice are the utilities,
… ‘cause they’re all underground.
That means no unsightly power lines gettin’ in the way of YOUR view across miles and miles of glorious Texas Hill Country.
Meet-up with neighbors at the old 1850’s ranch house,
enjoy a cool dip in one of several neighborhood swimmin’ holes,
throw-in a line down at the RIVER park,
… or just explore the trails and soak-up nature.
And when you’re through watchin’ the sun set over your new home place here, you can meet-up with other friendly locals at an old café in town.
Have a sit and just visit a while over coffee.
Or, order-up yourself some homestyle Texas cookin’.
… Yeah ~ that’s how we like it here.
What are you waitin’ for ?
… Saddle-up and ride on out to Bridlegate.

San Antonio, Texas trip! First USA Airconditioned Building, Bank, Hotel and Catholic Church...
San Antonio was home of the USA's First Air-Conditioned Office Building, Bank, Hotel and Catholic Church.
San Antonio is the seventh most populous city in the United States and the second most populous city in both Texas and the Southern United States.[5] Founded as a Spanish mission and colonial outpost in 1718, the city became the first chartered civil settlement in Texas in 1731, making it the state's oldest municipality.[6][7] The city's deep history is contrasted with its rapid growth: it was the fastest-growing of the top ten largest cities in the United States from 2000 to 2010, and the second from 1990 to 2000.[8][9] Straddling the regional divide between South and Central Texas, San Antonio anchors the southwestern corner of an urban megaregion colloquially known as the Texas Triangle.
San Antonio serves as the seat of Bexar County; recent annexations have extended the city's boundaries into Medina County and, for a tiny area near the city of Garden Ridge, into Comal County.[10][11] Since San Antonio was founded during the Spanish Colonial Era, it has a church (San Fernando Cathedral) in its center, on the main civic plaza in front, a characteristic of many Spanish-founded cities, towns, and villages in Spain and Latin America. As with many other Western urban centers, areas outside the city limits are sparsely populated.
San Antonio is the center of the San Antonio–New Braunfels metropolitan statistical area. Commonly called Greater San Antonio, the metro area has a population of 2,473,974 based on the 2017 U.S. census estimate, making it the 24th-largest metropolitan area in the United States and third-largest in Texas.[12] Growth along the Interstate 35 and Interstate 10 corridors to the north, west, and east make it likely that the metropolitan area will continue to expand.
San Antonio was named by a 1691 Spanish expedition for Saint Anthony of Padua, whose feast day is June 13. The city contains five 18th-century Spanish frontier missions, including The Alamo and San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, which together were designated UNESCO World Heritage sites in 2015.[13] Other notable attractions include the River Walk, the Tower of the Americas, SeaWorld, the Alamo Bowl, and Marriage Island. Commercial entertainment includes Six Flags Fiesta Texas and Morgan's Wonderland amusement parks. According to the San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau, the city is visited by about 32 million tourists a year. It is home to the five-time NBA champion San Antonio Spurs and hosts the annual San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, one of the largest such events in the U.S.

San Antonio River Begininng / The Blue Hole
Years ago I was blessed with the opportunity of researching San Antonio and her history. The following pictures I took after finding the city's source of life, the San Antonio River: the river I was born not to far from. The spring season was an especially wet one and springs were bubbling up all over campus. I thank God for this experience of seeing how He gives life to his creatures and sustains that life with his refreshing water.
San Antonio River Headwaters Blue Hole
San Antonio is known for its river and primarily for the San Antonio Riverwalk. The history and origin of the San Antonio River begins on the campus of the University of the Incarnate Word. Although the San Antonio River has hundreds of springs and creeks feeding it on its journey to the Gulf of Mexico, the recognized source is what is known as the San Antonio Springs Blue Hole.
The Blue Hole - San Antonio Springs
Looking at the size and strength of the San Antonio River, one would hardly believe that the recognized headwaters consists of a rock encircled spring no larger than a backyard spa. In reality, the San Antonio River headwaters is made up of numerous springs as well as the combined flow of Olmos Creek. These springs, appropriately named the San Antonio Springs are all in the vicinity of the Blue Hole, with the Blue Hole being the largest and are fed by the Edwards Aquifer. When the aquifer level drops below 676 feet, the springs stop flowing and the Blue Hole is dry. The water running from the San Antonio Springs and Blue Hole is clear and beautiful. As the name implies, the Blue Hole has a blue tint to the water as it bubbles up out of the ground and makes its way downstream. This historical water landmark is protected by State and Federal law and is an excellent place for an afternoon stroll in a peaceful setting. The plaque on the edge of the Blue Hole reads:
The historic source spring of the San Antonio River, San Antonio Spring has for centuries provided millions of gallons of crystal clear spring water daily to generations of Native Americans and early Texas Settlers. The San Antonio River begins just south of this point, near the campus footbridge, where the Olmos Creek and the San Antonio Spring flow come together and, supplemented by hundreds of smaller springs along the way, begins the journey to the Gulf of Mexico.
At one time the daily flow from the San Antonio spring was aid to be so strong at times that it produced a geyser many feet into the air. In the 19th century banker, philanthropist George Washington Brackenridge purchased this property and established the first San Antonio Water Works. The concrete rim around this spring, which goes deep underground to the southern boundary of the Edwards Aquifer in the Olmos Basin, was added by Brackenridge to control the water flow. In time, however, the addition of wells and pumps south of the Brackenridge property made the Water Works less than lucrative. These wells and pumps also reduced the natural spring flow.
The University added the current walkway to the Spring, and the natural limestone ledge in 1989. This made the spring more available to the campus and general community without the danger of accidentally falling into it. The stones used, with the natural indentations in the limestone, are excellent examples of the limestone formation which is the Edwards Aquifer, San Antonio's sole source of pure drinking water. In recent years San Antonio Spring is frequently dry, except after heavy rains. Natural flow begins when the aquifer water table is around 676 feet above sea level.
This source of pure water attracted settlers from prehistoric and historic times, and these people have left rich archaeological resources for future study. The San Antonio Spring, Brackenridge Villa, and the five distinct Texas Archaeological Landmarks west of the spot are on the National Register of Historic Places as the Source of the River Archaeological District. These sites are protected by State and Federal law, with hefty fines and penalties for tampering with protected sites and/or removing pre-historic or historic artifacts. Look, please, and enjoy it as generations have done before you, but leave it as you found it for generations yet to come.
Start of the San Antonio River
The actual San Antonio River begins underneath the footbridge on the University of the Incarnate Word campus. The physical location, underneath the bridge joins Olmos Creek with the creeks and streams of the San Antonio Springs (the Blue Hole and surrounding springs). The point at which the two primary streams converge, the water becomes extremely muddy and maintains its muddy color the length of the river. The point at which the two bodies of flowing river join is the very beginning of the San Antonio River.

Dry Guadalupe River in the heart of Texas Hill Country Labor day weekend 2018
Houston, theres a problem.
I have been documenting the Guadalupe River for over 30 years. It is one of most beautiful. poetically and profoundly, storied rivers in the great state of Texas Republic, a proud sponsor and supporter of the United States of America. The One River project has taken me on many adventures on this arterial, spring fed ventricle to our geographic heart. It is the key to life on this astonishing space ship we call Earth. It's up to us. Are we are going to take care of this place or not. Please consider joining in the fun!
We shot this yesterday on the Guadalupe just above Canyon lake. It was beautiful but in a eerie kind of way. I felt like I was walking on the moon. All of you folks in the Texas Hill country watering your grass and mowing your green flat lawns please stop immediately and consider other options like learning about permaculture and implementing the ideas. There are effective solutions that will help us improve this situation, we have haphazardly found ourselves in and we can do it faster than you might think. It takes a village!

It all happened in Bandera City Park and the Bandera Business Association hosted this event.
Join us next year for Mayhem On the Medina! Scheduling will be around the same time next year. A Friday, Saturday and Sunday around the second week in April 2015. Bandera City Park on the banks of the Medina River. This family fun event will include competitions, arts and craft vendors, music, historic campsites and educational displays, old fashioned children's games and much more!

Campground Review: Medina Lake Thousand Trails (2018) || Full Time RV Living
This is a campground review of Medina Lake Thousand Trails located in Lakehills, Texas. We stayed at Medina Lake for three weeks in December 2017 to January 2018. We enjoyed our time at this TT resort and ventured into San Antonio often. This video showcases the highlights of the park and of course, it's most popular features (the deer and its gorgeous lake). Have you stayed here before? What are your thoughts on this resort?
As mentioned in the video, here is the link to check Lake Medina's level prior to your trip:

FREE Riverside Camping in the Texas Hill Country... Junction, TX
March 15, 2018
My road trip continues but not without a three day break in the Texas Hill Country. IH10 Exit 456 takes me into the charming little Texas town of Junction. The city park, also known as Schreiver Park allows three days of camping at no charge. And I was able to park next to the Llano river.
I'll remember this stop for my next pass through.
Please Enjoy!

Jeff here, and welcome to my world, Mr JD's World ????.
I live a nomadic RV life in my vintage Class C Motorhome. I live with two cats, Nibbler, and his little sister, Spooky. Their birthday is July 4, 2006.
I mix it up by traveling alone, in a caravan, or with a nomadic tribe. I might boondock for long periods of time in one location or scat across the country with little planning. I might tour landmarks and monuments, or go to local or cultural exhibits or events. And then again, I might just take time out for myself.
I create and post my videos as a journal of my nomadic life. A journal I manage so family and friends can witness some of my days out here, wherever it is that I am. This is not a job and I'll not let it become one.
I hope you enjoy this video along with the other videos on my channel. And if you do, don't hesitate to like, comment, share, and subscribe.
Please Enjoy!
