Ferries to Tunisia:
Sousse (Arabic: سوسة Sūsa, Berber: Susa) is a city in Tunisia. Located 140 km south of the capital Tunis, the city has 173,047 inhabitants (2004). Sousse is in the central-east of the country, on the Gulf of Hammamet, which is a part of the Mediterranean Sea. The name may be of Berber origin: similar names are found in Libya and in the south of Morocco (Bilād al-Sūs). The city is the capital of Sousse Governorate with 540,000 inhabitants (2005 estimate). Its economy is based on transport equipment, processed food, olive oil, textiles and tourism. It is home to the Université de Sousse. SOURCE : WIKIPEDIA

Medina of Sousse (UNESCO/NHK)
Sousse was an important commercial and military port during the Aghlabid period (800--909) and is a typical example of a town dating from the first centuries of Islam. With its kasbah, ramparts, medina (with the Great Mosque), Bu Ftata Mosque and typical ribat (both a fort and a religious building), Sousse was part of a coastal defence system.

The Medina of Sousse in Tunis
The Siusse Medina is nominated to Unesco World Heritate location. The Medina of Sousse constitutes a harmonious archaeological complex that reflects Arabo-Muslim urbanism applied to a coastal town exposed through its history to piracy and dangers from the sea.

Sousse is the third largest city in Tunisia after Tunis and Sfax. Although Sousse is associated with olive oil manufacture and has other industries, tourism predominates today.
A medina, surrounded by its city walls and fortifications, is of historical interest. The medina includes open and covered bazaars (souks). Buildings of historical interest include the ribat castle, the central mosque, and a historical museum in the Casbah with mosaics from the area's many Roman villas. The Carthaginian catacombs can be visited.
UNESCO declared the medina of Sousse a World Heritage Site in 1988, citing among various things its preservation from modern development.
I also visited Carthage, Sidi Bou Said, Tunis, Monastir, and Hammamet. I loved every minute of Tunisie!

Sousse, Tunisia - Part 1: The Medina
Tuesday 7th August
Our first day in Sousse was spent exploring the Medina. We stayed at Hotel Paris, just inside the city walls, in a small but comfortable room with air-con, a good bathroom and television with CNN. The restaurant next door was so good we ate there three nights in a row.

Tunisia: escursione a Sousse (05)
Uno spettacolo affascinante e introvabile ormai in Italia.
