Meet the People: Hidden Gems of Jamaica
A majority of the tourists that come to Jamaica end up landing in Montego Bay or Ocho Rios or Negril and then you know what happens? And they may never leave the resort. But if you want to experience Jamaica, like the locals. Then you've got to meet the people.
In Port Antonio or Porty, you'll find great beaches, great service, great food and no crowds. But that's just the start. If you're interested in art, music, any sort of culture-any sort of cooking-you just ask the Jamaican tourism board. They have an innovative program that actually pairs you with a local artist, artisan, chef or craftsman to share with you their skill.
Find out more in Peter Greenberg's last Hidden Gems of Jamaica.
Meet the People Program - Jamaica
Leah and Nicki participated in the Meet the People program sponsored by the Jamaica tourist board.
You can read about it here:
From the website:
What better way to experience the culture of a nation than through its people? For travellers seeking insight into the Jamaican experience and the warm welcome of a Jamaican friend, the island's Meet-the-People programme provides an ideal option. Launched in 1968 by the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), the Meet-the-People programme reaches out to visitors curious to explore the culture of this vibrant Caribbean island, taking them beyond the traditional resort and beach setting into the colourful realm of Jamaica's lifestyle, tradition and customs.
Jamaican Bud Business : Meet Medicanja
Subscribe to VICE News here:
Jamaica's first medicinal marijuana company, Medicanja, launched this year against a backdrop of reinvigorated debate around ganja law reform among leading policymakers. The renowned Jamaican scientist Dr. Henry Lowe, a leader in THC studies for medical purposes, is running the company with the University of West Indies and the University of Technology jointly funding the facility. In addition to studying the scientific benefits of marijuana, Dr. Lowe says the company will produce CBD-based medical products, which fall under legally accepted medicinal use of the ganja plant. Lowe says the plant extract can be used to treat psychosis and severe pain, as well as mid-life crises in men.

JAMAICA MEET AND GREET
It was certainly a pleasure meeting the Jamaican Lovelies. We weren't even on the island for 48 hours and the request for a meet and greet was heart warming. We enjoyed meeting with you all at Devon House in Kingston, JA & I was certainly entertained by you all. Much love to all the LOVELIES.
Thank you to Quite Perry for being our guest host for the meet and greet. He really is a comedian!!!
One of the highlights of the Jamaica trip is shown here on the second half of this video. Never did I think that during this Jamaica trip that we would have been invited to the Legendary Freddie McGregor's home and his Big Ship Studios. As it turns out, the talented daughter of Freddie McGregor, Zosia McGregor is a loyal Lovely/Hunty and wanted to meet us. We drove up to meet Zosia after the meet and greet and she gave us a tour of the studio and their home. Myles is a big fan of both Chino and Stephen Di Genius McGregor so it was awesome seeing Chino doing his thing in the studio. Stephen was getting some rest upstairs. It was also a delight to see the great late and legendary Dennis Brown's daughter, Marla Brown. So much talent in the studio that you all will have to watch this video twice. IT'A REAL TING.
I am so proud that the McGregor children are following in their father's footsteps.
By the way: you never know who's watching these Vlogs.
THANKS ZO!!!!! I'm now watching y'all.
