Brazil - Santarem (Life Along the Amazon River: Santarem)
Located at the confluence of the Amazon and Topojos rivers, Santarem is a popular stop for regional boats traveling between Belem and Manaus, Brazil. Once home to the Tapojos Indians it was a large agricultural chiefdom before the arrival of the Europeans. The meeting of the Amazon and Tapojos Rivers is known as the Meeting of the Waters. The rivers run side by side for three miles without mixing due to the difference in temperature, speed and densidty. Located near Santarem is the resort town of Alter do Chao that is home to the beautiful white-sand island known as Ilha do Amor - Island of Love.

Auf dem Amazonas - MS Albatros 2018 - Manaus - Meeting of the waters

Miracle in Santarem Brazil
This was shot on September 30, 2006 at 9:20 AM. God healed this young boy who had never walked nor held his head straight. God answered the prayers of Steve Virg-in and David Zaritzky and started a dramatic healing process. The video speaks for itself
arriving to Santarem in the Amazon
coming from upstream in the Amazon river (light brown water), entering the Tapajos river (blue water) just in front of the city of Santarem. One sees many fishermen in canoes at the meeting of the waters because these waters are very fishy. The video was taken from the boat Nheengatu in october 15th, 2006.

AMAZON RIVER - MEETING OF THE WATERS
Ever wonder where the Amazon River starts? In this video, we show you! It's actually a combination of two rivers - the Rio Negro and Rio Solimoes, that twist and turn together eventually becoming the famous Amazon River! The coolest part? Both rivers are different colors and they don't mix right away, so you can actually see the line where a black and brown river meet!
Today, we leave the Tariri Amazon Lodge for Manaus, en route to Rio de Janeiro. Check out our last day in this incredible environment :)

Brazil - public boat Rio Solimoes Tabatinga--Manaus: Complete video guide pt1
Heard about that public boat from Tabatinga to Manaus in four days? In this clip you will learn more about getting on that boat, what's the food like and many more helpful aspects.
Being on that boat means to be part of a closed economy encompassing all kinds people, mostly locals who only open up a bit upon arrival at the ports along the river. Then hectic breaks out. They wake up and dive deeply into the colorful passenger chaos that brings change.
New faces, new freight, farewell…
...this is the complete video guide (pt1) as to how to master the public boat ride from Tabatinga to Manaus on Solimoes River, passing the meeting of the waters, where Solimoes and Negro meet to become the mighty amazon river.

Meeting of the Rivers
A short clip highlighting the famed Meeting of the Rivers. At Santarem, Brazil, the Amazon and Rio Tapajos meet and merge together. But the different water temperatures and current keep them separate for several kilometers. A fascinating sight.
Meeting of the Waters p2 2010
A trip from Manaus Brazil on the Rio Negro River to meet with the Amazonas forming the Amazon River. Where the two rivers meet the the clear black warm slow moving Rio Negro and the fast moving cold muddy Amazonas do not mix; they run for several miles before finally blending together as the Amazon River that runs to the Atlantic Ocean. During the trip we visited a small river island village with a rubber making demonstration.

the meeting of the Tapajos and the Amazon rivers
navigating in the very mouth of the Tapajos river, where the blue waters of the Tapajos river meet the brown waters of the Amazon river just in front of the city of Santarem. The waters do not mix for many miles downstream of the meeting due to different physical properties, such as the temperature (the Amazon river is colder than the Tapajos river), the density and the viscosity. The video was taken from the boat Nheengatu.
